Seaward Cottage is located on the 170 acre property known as Sealedges-an oceanfront private reserve near the quaint lobstering village of Cutler.
There are ocean views from both bedrooms and living areas of this authentic Maine carriage house. The cottage is located on a private road with no public access. Hike for miles on trails along sea ledges offering spectacular seascape views, or walk on woodland paths frequented by grouse, deer and moose. This area is known for its fantastic bird watching. Eagles are seen regularly and puffin tours can be enjoyed out of nearby Cutler Harbor. See seals play in the ocean surf or watch the thick Cutler fog as it rolls in, swallowing the rocky coast and forest tree line.
Picnic at the Puffin Pavilion—the property’s screened porch in the woods. Walk creek side along towering granite cliffs to Cobble Beach. Here you can pick up small granite rocks rolled smooth by ages of storms and tidal surges. The tranquility and privacy of this area is what 'down east' Maine is all about.
Watch as the lobster boats return to Cutler Harbor with their fresh catch of the day. Visit the wharfs down the road to pick up your very own lobster dinner.
If sightseeing is on your agenda there are many day trips of interest around this part of the state. From Bar Harbor to Campobello and points in between, there is always something new to experience by car, kayak or boat tour.
We are sure your visit to Sealedges and Seaward Cottage will be a memorable one.

About Leslie Winn
We are David and Leslie Winn and we live in Lago Vista, Texas outside of Austin. Our children are Ryan and Natalie, Jonathan, and Hunter. We fell in love with the Sealedges 18 years ago and spend as much time as we can there every summer.
Leslie Winn purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Leslie Winn chose Cutler
We feel that this is a very special place….a sanctuary in which to feel closer to God and rejoice in the beauty of the world He created for us.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our favorite time at Sealedges is spent with family and friends hiking the rock ledges, eating lobster at the Puffin Pavilion and star gazing at night. We love the privacy of the property. Long walks up the quiet neighboring roads end at the old pre Civil War Cutler Cemetery. Animal sitings are another past time as well as trips around the area visiting the local attractions. Our children say they love coming to Maine-it's beautiful, it's quiet and it is miles away from the stress of home.

My husband and ILOVED Seaward Cottage!
Our vacation at Sealedges was the perfect vacation. The cottage is perfect, everything you need for your stay. It is also very clean.
The amazing trails on the property rival any in the area. The trails are well marked and maintained. There were many days we did not leave the property. Our days consisted of breakfast on the screened in porch, hiking a few trails, picnic lunch at the Puffin Pavilion (usually a cat nap also) and beach combing or just sitting and enjoying the view. Leslie and David (owners) were very friendly and answered all our questions and emails promptly. Julie and Mike ( caretakers) were also very friendly and helpful. Julie made us blueberry bread and Mike hauled our treasures that we found on the cobblestone beach up to the cabin for us. I honestly can not think of one thing that wasn't perfect! We will definitely return.
A Great Place to "Create your own adventure"!
Seaward Cottage at Sea Ledges is a unique place on Maine's spectacular "Bold Coast". Strategically located within less than an hour of places to spend a day or a few hours, this is the perfect location and the perfect cottage. My wife and I spent the entire month of July in the cottage and could not have asked for a better place. Plenty of opportunity for quiet and refreshing relaxation in the cottage sunroom or screened porch while hearing and watching the lobster boats checking their traps or taking hikes along the spectacular coastline within the preserve or along some of the trails near Cutler, including two great trails to the coast right there in Cutler Village. The village is a quintessential Maine fishing village with lobstermen (and women) tending their boats and coming and going throughout the day. July 4th was an especially wonderful day in Cutler with the "crate race", lobster boat races, and the "parade" through Cutler Village.
The cottage itself is immaculate and well-equipped. We really enjoyed staying there and looked forward to returning each day after a hike, bike ride, or trip to one of the several nearby towns and other sites - including Lubec (where you can enter Canada to visit Campobello Island - FDR's Summer Cottage), Eastport (easternmost city in the USA), the Quoddy Head Lighthouse and State Park (lots of great hiking along the coast), and Pembroke (close to "Reversing Falls" State Park). We loved waking up each day to the sound of the lobster boats and then enjoying coffee or tea and Blueberry Cake (made using the recipe that Julie Brown, the "Keeper of the Cottage" used for the delicious cake that greeted us when we arrived).
This cottage has everything you need for a "make your own vacation" experience. You are surrounded by natural beauty and staying in a well-maintained, fully equipped, and warmly decorated and comfortable cottage with all the convenience of home (yes, even cable TV and wi-fi!). The best part of our stay was that we never felt compelled to do anything (and some days we didn't!) but there were always things to do if you wish to do them. The people in Cutler are friendly and seem happy to get to know you - this is not a typical Maine "tourist town" - most are locals or summer residents so if you're inclined to start a conversation, most are happy and willing to tell you about the area and things to do close by.
Exceeded all expectations
Immaculate, comfortable, beautiful grounds!
Thank you so much! We are so happy that you enjoyed Seaward Cottage and the beauty of the area.

What an awesome place!
My husband and I, and our two furry, four-legged children spent two wonderful weeks in August at Seaward Cottage. The little house was immaculate, cozy and comfortable, and well supplied with everything we needed. What a treat it was to find the table set for our breakfast the next morning and Julie's fresh-baked blueberry cake sitting on the table! Mike and Julie, the caretakers, go out of their way to extend hospitality, including personal, hand-written notes and chocolates around the house. Five-star hotels can eat their hearts out! The hiking trails on the grounds are expertly groomed and marked by Mike, with some of the most spectacular views to be found on the Bold Coast. The pavilion is wonderful. There is so much to do in the area also, we never ran out of things to keep us busy. After two fantastic weeks, it was sadly time to go home. We will be back!
Our family of four spent a wonderful week in August at Seaward Cottage. Our daughters, ages 9 and 11, loved their upstairs bedroom and exploring the moss covered trails ("fairy trail"). The house is charming, comfortable, and had everything for a wonderful stay. We bought fresh lobster twice at the harbor in Cutler and found wild blueberries to made pancakes and scones! We took day trips to Eastport and Lubec/Campobello Island. We hiked the many trails and observed many lobster boats at work. Seaward Cottage is a gem - we almost want to keep it a secret!
We flew into Boston with two granddaughters, ages 21 and 17 then drove up the coast to this serene location high on the cliffs overlooking the coast. The harbor at Cutler is just a few miles away so we drove over and bought fresh caught lobster twice. This cottage is a lovely, nicely furnished retreat, kitchen is stocked with all cooking needs. The property is large, private and beautifully maintained. We hiked over to the beaches several times and enjoyed the views! Julie welcomed us with her delicious blueberry cake and table set for tea!
