Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Seaward Cottage is located on the 170 acre property known as Sealedges-an oceanfront private reserve near the quaint lobstering village of Cutler.

There are ocean views from both bedrooms and living areas of this authentic Maine carriage house. The cottage is located on a private road with no public access. Hike for miles on trails along sea ledges offering spectacular seascape views, or walk on woodland paths frequented by grouse, deer and moose. This area is known for its fantastic bird watching. Eagles are seen regularly and puffin tours can be enjoyed out of nearby Cutler Harbor. See seals play in the ocean surf or watch the thick Cutler fog as it rolls in, swallowing the rocky coast and forest tree line.

Picnic at the Puffin Pavilion—the property’s screened porch in the woods. Walk creek side along towering granite cliffs to Cobble Beach. Here you can pick up small granite rocks rolled smooth by ages of storms and tidal surges. The tranquility and privacy of this area is what 'down east' Maine is all about.

Watch as the lobster boats return to Cutler Harbor with their fresh catch of the day. Visit the wharfs down the road to pick up your very own lobster dinner.

If sightseeing is on your agenda there are many day trips of interest around this part of the state. From Bar Harbor to Campobello and points in between, there is always something new to experience by car, kayak or boat tour.

We are sure your visit to Sealedges and Seaward Cottage will be a memorable one.

About The Owner

We are David and Leslie Winn and we live in Lago Vista, Texas outside of Austin. Our children are Ryan and Natalie, Jonathan, and Hunter. We fell in love with the Sealedges 17 years ago and spend as much time as we can there every summer.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2000

Why The Owner chose Down East

We feel that this is a very special place….a sanctuary in which to feel closer to God and rejoice in the beauty of the world He created for us.

What makes this cottage unique

Our favorite time at Sealedges is spent with family and friends hiking the rock ledges, eating lobster at the Puffin Pavilion and star gazing at night. We love the privacy of the property. Long walks up the quiet neighboring roads end at the old pre Civil War Cutler Cemetery. Animal sitings are another past time as well as trips around the area visiting the local attractions. Our children say they love coming to Maine-it's beautiful, it's quiet and it is miles away from the stress of home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much for letting us use this time to regroup and relax. We will be back again next year-I am certain. We love it here---

Seaside Escape

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four spent a wonderful week in August at Seaward Cottage. Our daughters, ages 9 and 11, loved their upstairs bedroom and exploring the moss covered trails ("fairy trail"). The house is charming, comfortable, and had everything for a wonderful stay. We bought fresh lobster twice at the harbor in Cutler and found wild blueberries to made pancakes and scones! We took day trips to Eastport and Lubec/Campobello Island. We hiked the many trails and observed many lobster boats at work. Seaward Cottage is a gem - we almost want to keep it a secret!

What an awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, and our two furry, four-legged children spent two wonderful weeks in August at Seaward Cottage. The little house was immaculate, cozy and comfortable, and well supplied with everything we needed. What a treat it was to find the table set for our breakfast the next morning and Julie's fresh-baked blueberry cake sitting on the table! Mike and Julie, the caretakers, go out of their way to extend hospitality, including personal, hand-written notes and chocolates around the house. Five-star hotels can eat their hearts out! The hiking trails on the grounds are expertly groomed and marked by Mike, with some of the most spectacular views to be found on the Bold Coast. The pavilion is wonderful. There is so much to do in the area also, we never ran out of things to keep us busy. After two fantastic weeks, it was sadly time to go home. We will be back!

serene location

  • 5 of 5

We flew into Boston with two granddaughters, ages 21 and 17 then drove up the coast to this serene location high on the cliffs overlooking the coast. The harbor at Cutler is just a few miles away so we drove over and bought fresh caught lobster twice. This cottage is a lovely, nicely furnished retreat, kitchen is stocked with all cooking needs. The property is large, private and beautifully maintained. We hiked over to the beaches several times and enjoyed the views! Julie welcomed us with her delicious blueberry cake and table set for tea! Best trip ever!!

  • 5 of 5

Mike and Julie are the best...not to mention Julie's amazing blueberry cake!! Sealedges is gorgeous with endless scenery and wonderfully groomed trails (thanks to Mike). Julie makes sure the cottage is perfectly prepared. Cutler had limitations in terms of eating out, going to the grocery, etc...but the beauty of the place is well worth the drive into Machias. Do yourself a favor and stay here...we can't wait to come back!!

Our Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We've been coming to Sea Ledges for four years, and we just love it! Julie and Mike do such a phenomenal job of keeping the grounds and trails perfect and the cottage spotless and comfortable. And we can't wait to have some of Julie's delicious blueberry cake that she always makes for our arrival. Cutler and the Bold Coast have some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, and you don't have to travel far to see it...just walk outside the cottage and hike on all the fantastic trails of Sea Ledges. What a treasure, and thank you to the Winn Family for sharing this wonderful place!

Abigail and Warren from northern Florida

Our third year in Cutler and again at Sea Ledges. It seems like home to us. The folks we deal with for lobster and clams know our name and treat us like one of the family. All the people in this part of Maine are the friendliest people we have ever met and we have traveled the world as Airline pilot and Flight attendant. Of course Helen's in Machias, Frank's in Lubec and the Chowder House are great places to eat, but we found another place that is typical of this part of the country. As you drive into Machias just past the Gulf Station, on your left you will see a shack with people lined up in front of it, The Riverside take out. STOP! The food is out of this world and there are places to sit and have a lunch by the water. All the places that have outside seating are dog friendly. The two guys that run the Riverside fixed Bailey our Chocolate Lab, a cup of ice cream that we almost fought him for. We had our family visit us for couple of days and they loved their short stay. When we left, we had a nice chat with Julie and Mike who are the managers, and it was saying good by to family and good friends. When you visit this part of Maine, you not only have a wonderful time, you will have a wonderful experience.
