About Karen Cook
Residing in Texas, the Cook's love spending time at their home away from home, Bois Blanc Island.
Karen Cook purchased this House in 2003
Why Karen Cook chose Bois Blanc Island
Karen grew up spending summers on Bois Blanc, so when we had children, we wanted them to get to know the Island. The boys, like their parents have come to love and appreciate Bois Blanc with all its unique discoveries. We look forward all winter to spending our summers on the Island.
What makes this House unique
The privacy of Cook Cottage is what first attracted us to this property. The cottage is set away from the road, when we don't want to see or hear civilization, this is the perfect spot. The east end of the Island has beautiful sunrises and is close to Mary's Lake and trails for discovery. The beautiful view from the cottage down to Lake Huron provides an excellent view of wildlife including eagle, deer and the like. The cottage is bright and cheerfully decorated with a lighthouse decor. Nights spent viewing the Milky Way from our beach front is uniquely spectacular, as we don't have the light pollution from the mainland. Awesome!!

This place is amazing! So peaceful on the water listening to the waves and the breeze in the trees. Our kids loved having the lake just steps from the back door for swimming and skipping stones. Definitely bring water shoes though as the bottom is rocky. The cottage was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We can't wait to start planning another trip back!!
I am so pleased you enjoyed your time on the Island. We are excited to welcome you and your family back to our Island paradise.
A spa for the soul
What a pleasant, clean, spacious cottage with a breathtaking view of Lake Huron! Well supplied with linens, towels, and board games. Washer and dryer made it easy to pack light. No internet, not the best cell reception, which was a huge plus to us; our teenagers "detoxed" surprisingly well! Hubby and son caught tons of bluegill and bass in Lake Mary and had a great time. My daughter and I had some very precious 1:1 time hiking to the lighthouse. We all took turns cooking and baking. Our oldest bought an inflatable raft, losing an oar on Lake Mary and making her mother have to swim across to get her (you don't get many opportunities to play 'hero' to the kids when they get into those late teen years!). The highlight was the Coast Guard Chapel for nondenominational Sunday services. The building was so lovely, the old boathouse-turned-chapel opens its big doors up for the service to a quiet, serene forest. Rarely have I been in such a holy place! Karen, this was such a special break from our crazy lives, God bless you for sharing your special place. One thing to mention is that Hawk's Landing, the community's store, is currently closed. ALL groceries and needs need to be brought across on the ferry.
All around, great experience. Owner is responsive, cottage is clean and comfortable and the scenery is breathtaking. This cottage is close to snow beach and snake island which is the perfect for day activities with younger kids. This is the perfect "get away from everything spot!"
Bois Blanc Island Amazing Vacation
A big Thank You goes out to the Cook Cottage owner, for our amazing vacation memories from last summer. We spent a glorious week at this cozy, well-equipped 'home-away-from home', with our daughter. The location couldn't be more perfect, as we were able to see freighters pass by in the straits from the dining/living room! And the huge sliding glass door gave us a front-row seat to all that Mother Nature created. We saw plenty of deer, a few loons, and even an eagle!
The cottage was equipped with everything we needed for the week. The 2 bedrooms were comfy, and my daughter really enjoyed the top bunk bed. We liked the open layout of the cottage, and the lighthouse theme was a nice touch.
The sunrise each morning was spectacular! My daughter especially enjoyed being at the beach - no driving required! The rocky beach didn't deter her either, as she spent HOURS exploring the rocks, water, frogs, crayfish, etc. in her water shoes. It was great to 'unplug' from our hectic pace and just relax in the covered porch swing. We haven't ever seen so many stars at night - we even saw part of the Milky Way!
Exploring the island was a treat too! Although we cooked most meals at the cottage, we had an occasional trip to 'Hawk's Landing' for their great pizza! And the dock at Mary's Lake afforded us a few fishing adventures as well. All in all, our experience was amazing/unforgettable/etc. Upon leaving, our daughter asked when we could go back. And we're planning to come again!!
Thanks for the thumbs up. So glad your daughter enjoyed our place. We are always ready to welcome you back. Thanks for being frequent repeat guests!!
To say I loved this place is an understatement! My favorite time of
the day was the morning I'd make coffee and go out to the
lake to watch the sunrise. Soooo peaceful. This is definately
a great place to get away from it all. Great bike riding and nice people
all over the island. If you like riding off the
beaten path - take a GPS ;-)
Great quiet getaway!
The cottage lived up to every detail in the ad. The island is truly beautiful, quiet and serene. The cottage was roomy, clean, comfortable and stocked with all our needs. We enjoyed seeing all the wild life including deer, fox, hummingbirds and bald eagles right outside the cottage. This is a great place to get away from it all and truly enjoy all that nature has to offer without the noise and business of everyday life. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to relax and get away from it all.
