About the property

Swim in Sebago Lake, one of the cleanest lakes in the US. This property has been owned and used as a private vacation home for 50+ years by the same family.

Cozy, clean, NON SMOKING, surrounded by Sebago Lake State Park. 1 of 7 cottages sharing a private beach, easy 1 minute walk along the road between homes in front of our cottage. Entry is gradual, water level is high in early summer. (Note: high water level in early season may result in no beach.) Water shoes are helpful, footing is a mixture of small rocks and sand. Walk 5 minutes to a large, long, sandy State Park beach with picnic facilities, snack bar, bathrooms, volleyball and playgrounds. Trails run throughout the Park and link the beaches. A trail runs right behind our cottage. Our State Park Season Pass is provided.

Horseshoe pit, screened porch and decks, charcoal barbeque and wood firepit. A great vacation spot for a family with young children, offering a bit of safety in distance from water. There's space; you won't feel bothered by neighbors.

Drive 5 minutes to Point Sebago Golf Course; 5 minutes to Naples. Park on the causeway and walk in any direction to find things to do. Portland is 30 minutes away. Children's Museum, Art Museum, Old Port - great restaurants, unique shops, tours and cruises. North Conway, NH, heart of the White Mountains, tax free outlet shopping is 50 minutes away.

Walking, swimming, kayaking, evenings by the fire. Bring your mountain bike to ride the Park trails.

Lots of DVDs, board games and a foosball table. Limited TV reception (NO CABLE), and limited internet connectivity (JETPACK), which, due to location in state park, can be sporadic.

Sorry, NO mooring or dock for a boat. The State Park boat launch is 1/2 mile away.

4 bedrooms will sleep 7 people. Two additional cots in open upstairs loft area, plus two inflatable instabeds.

Level one contains:

- a large screened porch - eating area, hammock, seating and a glider;

About Scott Fershleiser

Pam and Scott, second generation owners, live in western Massachusetts. We can't spend as much time as we'd like at the lake.

Scott Fershleiser purchased this house in 1963

Why Scott Fershleiser chose Casco

Great private setting for families. Safe distance from water. Miles of well maintained hiking trails out our back door. Miles of awesome kayaking. Crystal clear swimming.

What makes this house unique

Sebago is a large, very clean lake. We kayak on it and the rivers that feed it. Great beach and trail walks through the State Park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great Location! The State Park locks the gate at night - so don't forget your key. Well equipped cottage, we made bread in the breadmaker.

Quiet, very well-equipped home that easily accommodated my family.

  • 5 of 5

This home is a perfect spot for children with a large wrap around yard and a short walk to the beach. Both the owner and property manager were very responsive.

The house was adequate for our group

  • 4 of 5

Our group included adults children and an infant. As the host of my group, I was disappointed that we had to crane our necks to see the lake, the service billed as WIFI was reminiscent of dial-up and inadequate for even opening email, and the television did not work at all until a repairman came out and got us one local channel so we could get the weather report. The property is situated inside Sebago State Park and that was a special situation. We could walk or take a short drive to the pristine state beach with lifeguards. The landlord, Scott, was responsive to our needs and promised to downplay the WIFI situation in future descriptions as we pointed out that its the rare person who can drop off the grid for a week. Naples Library free WIFI saved the day for those checking in with the office.

Owner's Response: I regret this guest was disappointed, and will take her concerns into account, but would also like to provide some context to the remarks. Re: the need to crane one's neck to see the lake: Yes, our view is limited. Our description not only indicates it is a short walk to the lake, but also states many of our guests, esp those w/ young children, tell us for safety reasons they like the fact the house is set back from the lake, which of course implies a limited view. Re: TV and internet issues: this guest did experience poorer TV reception and internet connectivity than usual, for which I am sorry. Our description does indicate that, due to our location in a heavily treed area within the state park, TV reception and internet are limited. Based on this review, we'll make that statement more prominent. This guest's review focused on technology issues (vs quality of beaches, hiking trails, kayaking, etc) and stated that "it's the rare person who can drop off the grid for a week". We agree that for someone for whom staying actively on the grid during vacation is a priority, our vacation home is not a good choice. However, based on feedback from dozens of return guests, I believe most see their vacation as an opportunity to get away from the daily pattern of life and focus on family, friends, and outdoor activities. For them, I think our vacation home offers an outstanding getaway opportunity. We have become accustomed to hearing from our guests that their experience exceeded expectations. I am truly sorry that such was not the case in this review. Interestingly, this guest was one of two families (friends) who stayed together that week. The other family wrote the following email: Hi Scott, My family was fortunate enough to be able to stay with Pat R at your lovely lakehouse last week, and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it. Plenty of room and lots of things to do, both inside and out. We made good use of the canoe and kayaks, and enjoyed the family board and card games when it was rainy outside. Also cooked out and in and had most of our meals in the spacious dining room. The beaches were easy to get to, and there were lots of trails to walk... In short, a pleasant retreat for all of us, adults and children alike. Thanks for your hospitality. Shawn G. Obviously, a different take on their vacation experience by a fellow guest: same week, same group. Thank you for taking the time to read this reply.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this private home in Casco. The pictures and description does not do it justice. It exceeded our expectations. This is completely private, quiet, and directly inside the State Park.

We stayed with 4 adults, 5 children (including an infant). It was large enough to accommodate our needs, was fully stocked and we never felt on top of each other.

We took advantage of the beach directly behind the cottage which only took a 1min walk. It was beautiful and private. We also used the playground at the State Park. I HIGHLY recommend going to the State park "sandbar beach" by the playground and group area. Our kids ranged between 11 months and 5 years and there was a nice small pooling area with warm water that they really enjoyed. There was shaded area until about 12pm on the beach, and bathrooms close by. We drove to this beach even though its in the park because we had so much stuff with the kids. Its definitely walkable, probably 1/4 mile.

We also took advantage and used the trails for running. We all loved the fire pit on the property!

We highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

It was everything as described and then some. Stayed here with five other ladies who came to this place to relax and chill to celebrate our friendship since High School. Thank you Scott and Lynn for sharing your home with us. Also a big Thank you to Scott P for waiting for us at the gate and showing us around. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute we were there.

We will be definitely returning.

Beautiful, relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time here. Location at the end of the road was very nice and quiet. The lakeside scenery is spectacular. Plenty of private beach and public beach, mostly empty this time of the year. All of our needs were met in the cabin. The kayak was greatly enjoyed by all of us. We would definitely consider returning again.

Wonderful Property!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here with a group of 8 over a long weekend and had a wonderful time! Proximity to state park beach, boat ramp and town was very convenient. Enjoyed the fire pit and screen porch! We had bad weather one day so unfortunately didn't get to use the kayaks or horseshoe pit but had plenty of room in the house and were able to entertain ourselves with the massive collection of DVDs and board games! The unlocking/locking of the state park gate (5-7 min drive from the house) after hours was a little tricky as we had people coming and going at different times but it was manageable. Scott was very responsive and his property manager Scott was very helpful in showing us around and giving us suggestions about where to eat/boat. Overall a great stay!
