Two Houses from the Beach

Bedrooms 5
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Listen to the surf from your bedroom at night, watch the moon rise over the ocean from the upstairs deck. This cottage is a 1 minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches in New Jersey. If you love surf sports we are located on one of the few surfing beaches on the Island where you can surf or surf kayak any time of day. At the entrance to the beach it is your choice to go to the swim beach or the surfers beach located on either side of the classic stone jetty. Our house is comfortable inside and out with a great patio area for relaxing after spending the day at the beach and for outdoor dining. The property has had a single owner since the 1950's and has newly updated bathrooms, kitchen and master bedroom. Come and make yourselves at home at the beach.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Prior to your visit the family spent 6 days preparing the house for the season. You specifically suggested that the kitchen wasn't clean. This is hard to understand given that a full day was spent cleaning cupboards and appliances, scrubbing the floor, putting down new shelf paper and touch up painting.

I am sorry if your expectations weren't met. This is advertised as a beachside cottage. We trust the photographs on the website give a clear picture of what it is (and is not). All summer, sandy barefeet run in and out all day, families share BBQ's, and memories are made. While the carpets are only 3 years old, and despite cleaning just before your visit, a few small stains remain. The kitchen floor, new when the entire cottage was renovated about 10 years ago, now has a slightly "sanded" appearance. But every year, the family does major improvements; ranging from a new downstairs bathroom, to replacing all the livingroom furniture, a new dining room set, and new air conditioners. As promised the smoke detectors are now fully functioning.

We have enjoyed wonderful reviews from our renters over the past few summers. Some return every summer. Long Beach Island is a gem, and this location hard to beat.

Great beach rental!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I just got back from a wonderful week at this beach house. It was clean and very well appointed. The master bedroom is great, and although the other bedrooms were small, there was enough room for all 8 of my family members. Everything you need for a week at the beach is provided. It is almost like being invited to a friend's home. I have stayed at many rentals and the owners are extremely generous with the amenities! The beach is beautiful and access is just steps from your door.

The only problem was a lack of a/c in 2 of the 5 bedrooms and in the kitchen. This would usually not be a problem, as the beach breezes are usually enough, but our week was ungodly hot. The kids were unhappy there was only one TV, but they are all spoiled rotten! There were games and puzzles and cards and kites and boogie boards and we showed them how we had fun in the "old days".

My husband has just bought a 16' sailboat, and we were able to park in the street, and use it on the bay. All in all, a lovely house on a quiet street, steps from a beautiful beach. Thank you for a relaxing vacation.

What a nice beach house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week on Long Beach Island at this lovely home. A variety of family came in from around the country. Some stayed at other locations but our house was definitely the focal point of everyone's trip. It was a really hot week and a great one to be at the beach. The beach is soooo close and we could all easily go back and forth from the beach to the house for lunch or showers or naps or to retrieve a forgotten item without any problem. The kitchen was really nice with lots of space to have everyone eating and socializing while food preparation is in progress. Also there was almost everything you could imagine for use in the kitchen...we found a couple of large pots for our seafood feast, a juicer for the kids to make lemonade, ....etc. The gas grill and patio were also wonderful for eating and cooking outdoors. We loved the outdoor shower. It was relatively new, clean, had hot/cold water, stocked with soap and shampoo, and has an adjoining changing area! Who would want to take a shower inside on a warm summer day when there is such a great outdoor shower! Our group included kids of all ages and they were excited to use the boogie boards and kite that were outside as well as a great stocked "rainy day" cupboard in the dining room that had all sorts of games, blocks, art and craft supplies. The master bedroom was amazing with two balconies and alot of space. The other bedrooms were a bit smaller but still reasonable (I've seen some pretty tight beach house bedrooms and these were not crowded at all in comparison.

Lastly the neighbors were very nice- they reside here year round and were very friendly and welcoming to us.

The listing is definitely accurate in terms of location & amenities here. The photos reflect the property pretty well (the only difference we see is that the full size bed in the 2nd floor bedroom has been rearranged in that bedroom- and the room is much more spacious than it appears there!). The property was very clean (I laughed at the earlier review where the renter was disappointed in the cleanliness- we found no issues at all). The furnishings are all in good shape. Some things like the mattresses seemed almost new but even the older furnishings were very good.

We definitely would recommend this home to friends and family.

30 steps to the Beach!

  • 5 of 5

After 3 years of looking for the right place in NJ we finally found it.

30 Feet from the beach (It really is that close!) The NJ Ocean water is so much warmer than the ocean in New Hampshire. The cottage is perfect! The Bedrooms are fully furnished and the mattresses are comfortable. There was so much kitchen stuff I never used any of the stuff I brought along just in case.. Living Room is Huge and comfortable, the sofa under the picture window is a great place to snooze the afternoon away. The cottage was large enough to comfortably hold all 9 people in our group this year.

Bottom line, this cottage is comfortable not pretentious. The Price is right. The locals are nice even inviting us all over for barbecue and cocktails one night. Turn off the air condinitior open the window and listen to the surf. Have a good summer!

Stepping Back into Perfect Comfort

  • 5 of 5

My Family and I just spent an enchanted couple of weeks in a most wonderful setting and I wanted to post a well deserved review of our experience!

The house is a classic beach house- comfortable, well appointed, and perfectly located… more than anything else it reminded me of the cabin my grandparents had- but with a much better kitchen!

The house is the third building away from the beach (so we never heard ‘beach’ noise), and almost at the end of a road that dead ends at the water, (so there was no traffic noise at all).

The ground floor featured neat old-world tongue and groove paneling in the living room and dining room, a couple of charming bedrooms and the absolutely best equipped kitchen I have ever had the pleasure of renting! It had everything! Decent knives, every pot, pan, dish, and glass that you could ever want! Our house quickly became ‘party central’- especially because we had the generous backyard to spread out in.

The second floor had three bedrooms, two ‘singles’ and then a really sweet ‘master suite’ with two balconies- one with a stunning morning view of the ocean! Light, airy, great cross ventilation- a pleasure to come home to!

The neighbors are longtime residents of the island and were welcoming and generous to us when we asked for guidance and local wisdom.

All in all, I would not only visit the island again, but I would stay in this house again anytime!

Charming beach cottage, adorable rooms, perfect kitchen, great amenities, 20 steps from beach

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I travel to LBI each summer for a week with friends. We stayed here and it was perfect - adorable family-style beach cottage. Everything you need for a relaxing get-away plus fun quirky qualities that make a beach vacation perfect - like family photos one the walls, and puzzles and games on the shelves.

The rooms were clean and fresh and there was lots of cooking equipment was available for big dinners. We could fit about 15 people around the kitchen island for an unpretentious family dinner, and kept the large dining room table available for a summer puzzle that we worked on all week.

We walked barefoot to the beach all week. And in the evening, could walk to the bay for a beautiful sunset, or to the ice cream shop (Skipper Dipper) a few blocks away.

The owner was great and helpful with questions that arose.

I would highly recommend this house for a fun, relaxing vacation on a beautiful stretch of beach.

Amazing location, wonderful street, excellent house

  • 5 of 5

We've rented this house for the last 5 years and love it. The location is great, on a street that's mostly owners (they're quiet) and a few families that come back year after year. It's a stone's throw from the beach, has a back yard with lots of tall, shady pine trees and a good bbq. The master bedroom is wonderful--has 2 sliding doors on opposite sides of the room so the ocean breeze blows through, a view of the ocean from its own private mini-deck, and ac/ceiling fan. The other bedrooms are unremarkable--typical of the older-style LBI house--but all nicely decorated in pretty traditional style. The kitchen is really well-outfitted, and has a big island for seating lots of people while cooking goes on. We like to cook big meals, and it's great for that, there's a skylight that opens to let out heat, plus we pack family around the island to eat together even though there's a dining room table inside and a nice outdoor table on the patio. We just read the bad review and chuckled--we've rented on LBI since 1989, and levels of perfection vary--but speaking from experience, this place is clean. No, not the Ritz--you'll have to spend $5,000 and up for that--but it's carefully maintained, that's for sure. The bathrooms are spotless (and we've seen our share of moldy LBI bathrooms!) The outdoor shower is cedar, and really nice. If you want a modern, McMansion-style place, this isn't it--the stone fireplace from the 50's is still in the living room--but want a really comfortable, well-maintained, incredibly situated house on a quiet street that's excellent for kids, you'll be happy. Oh, and you can walk to the Acme (all major newspapers) and to a good breakfast place (Blue Water Cafe)! Finally, everything works... not something you can always count on in LBI rental houses, in our experience. Cozy, well-maintained, and a good house for the money.
