Historic Ranch Adobe 3 BR/2 BA Home on Private Ranch

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

The Adobe House is happily situated at the headquarters of the Babacomari Ranch, an historic Spanish Land Grant privately owned by the Brophy family for the past eighty years. A nearby family dwelling offers a secure and welcoming setting. As a working cattle ranch, livestock roam the beautiful countryside, and horses at the barn offer their noses for a friendly petting.

The House comfortably sleeps six in the Queen, King, and Twin bedrooms. There are two full bathrooms, and for larger parties a Queen sofa sleeper, and two roll-away beds will increase the accommodations to sleep ten. Satellite TV and WiFi will keep you plugged in if you choose. And a courtyard patio, lawn and garden, gas grill and portable fire-pit make for good leisure time outside.

The Babacomari Creek runs through the property with a lush riparian habitat that is home to abundant wildlife and provides excellent bird watching. There is also seasonal fishing in the pond or Babacomari Creek, and miles of mountain biking & hiking trails. Horseback riding is available with a local outfitter, or you may bring your horses with you and lodge them for an additional fee.

Chosen for its landscape beauty, the Babacomari Ranch has been the film-site for several movies such as Tombstone, Oklahoma, and Red River.

The nearby Elgin/Sonoita communities are home to award winning Wineries, shops, and restaurants. A little further down the road Patagonia also offers eclectic art galleries, shops and eateries. Tucson is 60 miles to the North. Nogales, AZ + Sonora, Mexico is 45 miles to the West. Sierra Vista, world renowned Ramsey Canyon (bird watching), and Ft. Huachuca is 35 miles to the East. Beyond you’ll find Bisbee, formerly home of the Copper Queen Mine, now a “bohemian” artists’ colony, and Tombstone, with it's window to the old wild, wild west.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We're very grateful we had the opportunity to stay on the Babacomari ranch. The house is beautiful; inside, the many photos and artwork tell its story. Its position, in the middle of the ranch surrounded by outstanding scenery and wildlife, is wonderful. We enjoyed exploring the local area and the numerous hikes and bike rides nearby. We loved hearing about the history of the ranch and how things work today. It's a very special place. Thank you so much!

Solitude, comfort, beautiful surroundings, good people

  • 5 of 5

A couple of years ago, my wife and I visited the Sierra Vista area and loved it. The February/March weather was moderately warm but we are not Florida fans, so it was a nice escape from the Northeast winter. Our rental last year was disappointingly unlike its HomeAway description, so we checked out a few alternatives before we left to make sure we wouldn't be surprised again, and the Babacomari adobe was far and away the winner.

We spent 4 weeks there this winter and can't say enough good things. Comfortable beds, a very well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher, no big deal), lots of room, fire pit, grill, access to a recreational vehicle to explore the 28,000 acre property and best of all, hosts who were always there for us without being intrusive.

Ellen and Joe were the perfect hosts in a beautiful setting and the month went by quickly. We took walks with their 8 dogs and enjoyed hikes and RV outings where we saw javelinas, mule deer, prong horned antelope and lots of bird species we never see in upstate NY. A perfect way to break up the cruelty of what had been a brutal winter in Saratoga Springs.

We'll definitely be back.

Amazing, relaxing, ranch stay

  • 5 of 5

We keep coming back to the historic Babacomari each year to enjoy the great hospitality of the ranch managers, the comfort of the old adobe house and the beauty of the ranch and its isolated location. Nights are gorgeous--stars, meteorites, satellites, etc---with a warm outdoor fire and grill for cooking. Wouldn't miss this stay if you have opportunity to enjoy southeastern Arizona some day.

Perfect for a girls getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with our stay at the ranch. We had a group of 6 women on a wine weekend getaway and the home was a great size. The kitchen is very well stocked if you want to stay in. The property is beautiful with walking trails for miles. Be advised that you will have to drive on a dirt road to the property for awhile but it is well maintained. The owners are very nice and responsive to questions. Highly recommend!

Beautiful home, tremendous owners

  • 5 of 5

Ellen, Joe and their 8 sweet poochies greeted us with a wonderful tour and immediately made us feel at home. The home was clean and perfectly outfitted for our family of five. Ellen told us all about the history of the 90-year-old ranch their family (Brophy - yes - the namesake of the boys prep school in Phoenix!) owns, as well as the history of all of the unique properties. We also got a tour of the farm animals, and to our delight the kids got he help feed the animals and even got a ride on a sweet horse around the house! If that wasn’t enough, Joe took us in his truck on a little tour of the ranch to show us some breathtaking sights. Two days just wasn’t enough time, so we will definitely be back! Thanks again for your amazing hospitality Ellen and Joe. The ranch is something you should be really proud of. What a wonderful legacy your family has built.
