About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Bath, (Sleeps 9)

Get away from the highway! Silver Willows "Sarva" cabin is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek on four acres, getting you away from the traffic that runs through town. It features many of the comforts of home with a mix of rustic charm, and is a great home base for visitors to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Wilderness.

**New Additions for 2017 and 2018:**

- We've expanded our driveway, to make it more convenient to navigate for winter travelers.

- We've updated some of the accessories and amenities in the kitchen and living area for the 2017/2018 seasons.

- A high chair and travel crib/bassinet are now available upon request for travelers with babies and infants. Please request these items when you book.

- Our sister cabin, "Ursa" (the Bear, VRBO #929453), is now available for rent on the property. Ursa is perfect for smaller groups, or you can rent both cabins. A stand of trees separates the cabins on the property, maintaining privacy for our guests.

- New twin bunk beds, new full futon, dresser and privacy screens added to the loft, allowing for better bedding and accommodation for larger groups!

- More trailer parking added for snowmobilers.

This cabin is named for Sarva, the moose constellation of the Sami people, and is located on the western, wooded half of a 4 acre property.

This cabin is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.

Silver Willows is situated away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people on two queen sized beds (1 in the master, 1 in the loft) plus a queen sleeper sofa and twin bunk beds, all with memory foam mattresses. There is also a full sized futon.

Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

About Max and Jenn

Jenn and Max are based in Seattle, but were annual visitors to Yellowstone for many years before choosing to build a cabin near the park. Max's work as a nature photographer drew him to the natural wonders of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the cabin was "a really good excuse to visit more often."

Max and Jenn purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Max and Jenn chose Silver Gate

We were very fortunate to find a property that was so close to the park, is filled with trees, has mountain views and even has Soda Butte Creek running through it on the way to the park. It really felt like being in Yellowstone despite technically being outside the park boundary. Seeing moose grazing in our willows or spying one of the town foxes hunting in the meadow really makes us feel at home in nature. Even when we're tucked inside, we're constantly peeking out the window to see if any of our wild neighbors have come by to say hello.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is in a great spot. Positioned on the opposite side of the creek from the highway, our guests are able to enjoy a fair bit of peace and quiet. During winter, visitors can ski out from the cabin, or ride their snowmobiles onto the Bannock Trail up to Cooke City and the backcountry. With so much of the property growing wild, we love going for peaceful walks along the creek, brushing past the moose's favorite willows and walking beneath the pine trees as woodpeckers tap away and squirrels gather food.

Geat place for a winter stay.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is located just over 1 mile from the NE entrance to Yellowstone NP in the small town of Silver Gate. Animal viewing in the nearby Lamar Valley is spectacular. Photographers will love staying here. There are both skier tracked and groomed XC ski trails along the main road to the cabin. Snowmobilers can take the Bannock Trail 3 miles up to Cooke City and then access miles of maintained trails. This area has always had great snow during our many winter visits. The cabin itself is fully stocked and very well maintained. It's a great place to return to after a day playing in the snow.

Excellent place to stay! Great for a sled trip!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 4 guys out for a snowmobiling trip to Cooke City. The cabin was clean and very well stocked with linens and kitchen essentials. We needed a couple items for cooking and they had plenty of spices and extras. Cooke is only 3 miles down a nice trail which starts right out the driveway. We had great internet and satellite TV worked very well. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when we go back to Cooke. Very private location with plenty of parking. We had a 29' enclosed trailer and were able to get it in the driveway in front of the cabin with some skills.
