Yellowstone Cabin Near Wolves and Wildlife

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Charming, recently built cabin with one bedroom and loft. Perfect for travelers who want easy access to Yellowstone Park's fabled Lamar Valley with its bison, elk, deer - and yes, wolves!

Located just minutes from the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park, our guests enjoy fabulous recreation opportunities, both in the Park and in the surrounding Beartooth Mountains and wilderness. Fly fishing opportunities abound in streams, rivers, and alpine lakes. Non-winter visitors can access the unbelievable Beartooth Pass via what Charles Kuralt once described as 'the most beautiful drive in America.' And for winter visitors there is unbeatable backcountry and cross-country skiing.

The cabin features gorgeous hardwood floors, tiled kitchen counters, a clawfoot tub/shower, and a cozy wood stove. We provide ample firewood, but the cabin also has (yet never needs) supplemental heat. The first floor bedroom has a magnificent queen-size high bed, and the loft sports two log beds, one queen-size and one single. There is also a trundle bed. We provide fresh linens upon your arrival.

You will not find a nicer place within sixty miles!

Cozy place, great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house (really nicer than a cabin). It is right on the edge of Cooke City, but still very private. You can ski right from the cabin and walk into town for dinner. The house was well appointed, with a great kitchen and plenty of space. The owners were very nice, prompt to respond, and extremely helpful. We will be back!

Note: the house sits right above the unplowed end of the Beartooth highway, so in the winter, there is considerable snowmobile noise. For us, access to backcountry skiing and friends who live in Cooke outweighed the noise, but if you are looking for a quiet retreat, Silver Gate gets less snowmobile traffic.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Have been staying at Two Rib Cabin in Cooke City for several years. Love everything about it. It has all the comforts of home, a mountain setting but is in walking distance of Cooke City for shops & restaurants. Can't wait to come back next year

Gorgeous house in a funky little town

  • 4 of 5

This house is extremely well built and lovingly designed with very pretty furniture. In fact it was so immaculate that we were a little afraid we were going to break something. The owner must have had problems with renters in the past, because there seemed to be an overabundance of caution and instructions on what we could and could not do, which is a shame. We never did light the gas stove because we were afraid we'd do something wrong. The house feels wide open to the outside which is great...however please be aware that the window wall faces the Beartooth Highway and there are no window treatments. Luckily that road didn't have tons of traffic while we were there, and the bedrooms are on the side away from the road.

Location was super convenient to the downtown Cooke City shops and restaurants. Lots of great information about the area was in the house for our use. We stayed 4 nights and didn't see any wildlife from the house aside from birds. There's a wonderful little stream next to the house that provides great "white noise".

Comfy beds. Couch was beautiful but not comfy so we laid on the loft beds to read and relax. Clawfoot tub was great as well for relaxing after the park.

Owner's Response: Wow. It's hard to know how to respond to a review like this. Over abundance of caution? We have two hard and fast rules. No smoking. No pets. Otherwise, we provide our renters with tons of useful information, including how to operate an uncommon stove. It works without electricity - an important trait if the power goes off. We're sorry these renters were afraid to use it. We wonder why they didn't call our property manager for help. Also, while the open windows facing the mountains are left exposed, the bedroom windows have blinds and curtains. Everyone else has always loved the views.

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

Two Rib Cabin was our home for two weeks in summer and we didn't want to leave.

Everything about this cabin is beautiful: the tiled and woorden floors, the large and modern kitchen, cosy living room with lovely furniture, comfortable beds and the pièce de résistance: the claw-footed bath tub!

Location is excellent: Cooke City is a gateway to Yellowstone NP as well as the Beartooth Highway and provides all services. The cabin is nestled in the woods making sure you can enjoy the quietness and solitude of this wonderful place.

The fun already begins when leaving the house in the morning or evening, on your way to wildlife watching in Lamar Valley you can already see squirrels, birds, foxes, mule deer and moose. A dream come true!

We can recommend this place to everyone who seeks tranquility in a natural environment and who wants to enjoy wildlife in all its forms.

Wonderful cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is pleasant and well appointed. Our family of five was comfortable for the duration of our stay. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck each night, and the location is in easy walking distance to the center of Cooke City.

The one star deduction comes from the rules regarding trash collection. Guests are required to remove all trash from the property on checkout, and given directions to the town dump. But given that checkout time is 10, and the dump only opens at 12, you are pretty much guaranteed to be stuck with at least one bag of trash. Dumpsters are hard to find, presumably given the rules regarding bears. A friendly person in town took our bag for us, but this should be handled better.

Still, this was a pleasant stay and I can heartily recommend the property.
