We're Brett and Melody, owners of Hacienda Tierra Buena, your premium Scottsdale Kierland vacation rental. We've been married since 2001, and we have four sons, two dogs, and a box turtle that randomly showed up in our front yard a few years ago.

Melody is an administrator for an online high school, and Brett owns a digital marketing agency. We are frequent travelers, active in the outdoors, and as locals, we're fully immersed in our community. Arizona will always be home. When selecting a place to purchase a vacation rental, we surprised ourselves by buying another home in Scottsdale, but we do love where we live. We're surrounded by great restaurants, diverse attractions, outdoor activities, and mediocre professional sports teams. "Next year is our year."

We opened our short-term rental in 2020. Until recently, our bookings were managed by a property management company while we handled the hospitality and 90% of guest communication. That company became unresponsive to our guests and to us. Rather than gamble with your comfort and convenience, we decided to manage the property ourselves. Consequently, we lost nearly 100 five-star reviews (on another platform), but the house is even more wonderful now than it was over the past two years, as we are constantly reinvesting in our guest experience.

And the house is fantastic. In fact, when we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, rather than going out of town or staying at another property, we chose to stay at Hacienda Tierra Buena. Over the course of our romantic week, we joked repeatedly about how "the owners really have thought of everything." And although the spacious 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath house was far more than a couple needs, the backyard amenities were what drew us to the house. We enjoyed some of our favorite restaurants nearby and spent our evenings poolside or floating around on rafts in the pool. Here's to 60 more years together!

Guests are provided with a start-up supply of coffee, kitchen pantry items, and household items such as laundry soap, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. so that upon check-in, you do not need to run to the store. If your stay is longer than a few days, you may need to replenish some items during your stay.

Although the house is plush with amenities and all the interior comforts of home, let's be honest: it's all about the backyard. Hacienda Tierra Buena offers indoor/outdoor Arizona living at its finest, and the yard is a guest magnet.

Many Scottsdale short-term rental owners charge $100-150+ per day for pool heating, but we choose to provide this optional amenity for just $75 per day. Please let us know at least 72 hours prior to check-in if you'd like to add pool heating to your reservation, since it takes up to 48 hours to bring the pool up to a comfortable swimming temperature of approximately 80-85 degrees, depending on ambient air temperature.

Guests who choose not to pay for heating may still use the pool, and they are still expected to replace the insulated pool covers when the pool is not in use.

Please note: Heating a pool is expensive and takes a lot of time. In order to provide the best experience possible, we strongly suggest you cover the pool with the provided two-piece solar cover to keep it insulated and reduce heat loss when not in use, especially overnight. If only a few people are going to swim, guests may consider only partially uncovering the pool, removing the smaller of the two covers, to help the pool maintain heat. This provides an area of approximately 15 feet by 7 feet, about twice the space of an average hot tub.

Although the temperature will be set to 85 degrees, an uncovered pool is much like an uncovered cup of coffee in an insulated mug. The pool will cool quickly (4-6 degrees per hour) when uncovered. When not covered, the pool is unlikely to reach 25–30 degrees warmer than the ambient air temperature. It can take many hours to regain the lost heat, and we want to ensure your comfort. We cannot guarantee the water will be comfortable for swimming if forgetfulness or neglect cause the pool to lose heat during your stay, and we are unable to provide refunds. Your diligence is essential for maximum enjoyment of the heated pool.
