Wendy Baker purchased this house in 2003

Why Wendy Baker chose Hartwell Lake

We built this home as a place to get away and enjoy our boat on Lake Hartwell.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying your Lake House. It is a beautiful house and has everything and more. We've rented places that didn't have 1/2 as much as your house has.

I love the set up of the house and the decor. All of us are enjoying hanging out at the dock fishing, swimming in the cove and going out on your boats.

Great value for the price!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a 'get away from everyone and everything' property then this is the place to escape to. It's situated in a quiet gated community at the end of an inlet on Lake Hartwell. The property is perched high above the lake surrounded by trees, so nice and private. There is a steep path leading to and from the lake but my inlaws, who are in their 70s, managed to climb it each time with no trouble. We had 8 adults and our border collie staying and there were ample space for us all without feeling on top of each other. The house was clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils. Plenty of tables and chairs for us all to sit outside to eat. Nearest grocery store is about a 20 minute drive away (Ingles in West Anderson, offering great customer service!). If you don't fancy cooking, we highly recommend J Peters in Anderson (30 minuete drive) awesome food and service. All in all a fab week in a great place and location, even our dog loved it, spending most of his time swimming with us in the lake.

Girls Weekend Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We booked this beautiful Lake House for a Ladies Weekend Retreat for the 10 of us. We chose this house because of the spaciousness and location to the lake. The house sits in a private cove....think cul-de-sac on the lake. For ladies in their 30's and 40's this was a must have! We spent most of our days on the dock and surrounding water. We all brought floats and floated around the cove. Some of us also used the peddle boat and canoe to venture out side the cove and check things out.

We all cooked our meals together in the large kitchen which had all the supplies we needed to prepare the food. There was a large deck over looking the water where we ate together.

After dinner the downstairs was the perfect space to hang out together. There was a lower covered deck that lead into the game room which had an extra fridge. It was very large and offered plenty of room to hang out and play a little air hockey.

Wendy, the owner was fantastic as well. I would definitely recommend this place for a Girls Retreat or a family vacation. I plan on returning again with the entire family in tow.

Great Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! Very quiet, very secluded. House was immaculate and very well furnished. We rented a pontoon boat for the week, plus had access to the owner's canoe and paddle boat. The water is absolutely gorgeous, and, for the most part, very lightly traveled. Our grandchildren loved the fishing and learned to waterski. Part of our group went hiking most mornings, but I found the quiet and beauty of the surroundings quite relaxing, and very seldom left. We wish it was a little closer to our home in Louisiana, but our whole family enjoyed our trip and we hope to go back again soon. The owner was a pleasure to work with and made sure our trip was enjoyable.

Fabulous House

  • 4 of 5

This house is just beautiful! Our family enjoyed it so much, we all can't wait to go again.

There is so much room, you can bring all your children & grandchildren.

The towels are very nice, everything we needed was there, except food.

Somewhat Disappointed....

  • 2 of 5

Cabin was spacious and location was nice. The cabin also had a very nice big driveway for our children to play. Upon arrival there was no hand soap and barely any dish soap. The towels and rags were soooo rough and scratchy, REALLY bad. There were light bulbs out in pretty much every room (some more than one light), including stove hood, oven, and fridge. The "air hockey table" was a small childs table and was literally falling apart. There were no darts for the dart board. The master bedroom tv was so fuzzy we could not watch it. My husband messed around with the wires and got it somewhat better. There seemed to have been a stink bug problem. They were everywhere inside the cabin. There piles of dead centipedes in the bottom floor. There were dirty bed linens in the washing machine that had not been washed. The smoke detector in the down stairs room had dead batteries and beeped continuously (until we took the batteries out). They did send someone over to replace some of the bulbs. And they did bring darts. This cabin has a lot of potential. We were just disappointed considering the amount we paid to stay there. (And that we had to sweep up bugs and wash someone elses bed linens after paying a cleaning fee.) After contacting the owner they advised us that they had updated their "additional information" portion of the contract to list specific items one would need to bring with them. However, the guest that left the last review stated that the cabin "is well stocked with items some vacation rentals tend to skimp on like hand soap, towels, linens, etc." So we were a it confused about what was to be provided. Again the cabin has a lot of potential. The owners did respond quickly to my texts. But were only able to correct a couple of issues.

Owner's Response: Cabin was spacious and location was nice. The cabin also had a very nice big driveway for our children to play. *Thanks! Upon arrival there was no hand soap and barely any dish soap. **I am so sorry that happened! We always clearly specify that all disposables need to be brought with you but I do have the cleaning company leave minimal supplies to start your stay. They have been notified to make sure that happens with a little more abundance! The towels and rags were soooo rough and scratchy, REALLY bad. Per your recommendation, the cleaning company was reminded to use fabric softener and all towels will be replaced within the month to start a fresh new year. ***Lake towels not provided. There were light bulbs out in pretty much every room (some more than one light), including stove hood, oven, and fridge. The cleaning company is supposed to inform me when they cannot execute as requested. All bulbs have been replaced inside and out! The "air hockey table" was a small childs table and was literally falling apart. *We have proudly bought a brand new fully electronic adult size air hockey table that will be installed this month! There were no darts for the dart board. *Replaced. The master bedroom tv was so fuzzy we could not watch it. My husband messed around with the wires and got it somewhat better. *Cable company has been notified. There seemed to have been a stink bug problem. *Massey Services sprays monthly and the bugs will enter the basement area but are dead because of services provided. Also, they increase with rainy weather. There were dirty bed linens in the washing machine that had not been washed. *The cleaning company could not wash the last load due to the amount of sheets and towels that were used prior. There are several sets of sheets for each bed and a lot of towels. The smoke detector in the down stairs room had dead batteries and beeped continuously (until we took the batteries out). Battery replaced, sorry! However, the guest that left the last review stated that the cabin "is well stocked with items some vacation rentals tend to skimp on like hand soap, towels, linens, etc." So we were a it confused about what was to be provided. *Extra supplies are stored in the laundry room that renters have access to. Some renters will take all of the extra supplies which leaves the cleaning company minimal if other renters are checking in the same day. Thank you for taking the time to submit this review! Have a great 2015!

Very nice home, secluded area

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this home over the weekend. It's in fantastic shape, with nice furniture/decor, and is well stocked with items some vacation rentals tend to skimp on like hand soap, towels, linens, etc. We especially enjoyed the large deck overlooking the back yard and the cove. We didn't have a golf cart like the other reviewer and had to huff it up and down the hill to get to the cove. However, the owner did provide info on how to arrange for a rental cart, which I would suggest for those with mobility issues or a lot of gear to take to the lake. We also rented a boat at the nearby marina. The house is well positioned for a variety of lake destinations easily reachable by pontoon boat. When we didn't have the boat, we had fun swimming and floating in the cove or just hanging out on the dock. We even took the "Scanoe" out for a spin. There seemed to be a lot of fish in the water, but none of us took a stab at using the provided fishing poles. The owner was very easy to work with, and always got back to me promptly on any questions we had. She was also very reasonable in accommodating our pets. There are plenty of TV's, and Sprint/AT&T/Verizon signals were good (not T-Mobile), but we did wish there had been WiFi available. Overall, highly recommended.
