I rented The Bounty with a group of my friends in June 2015. Not only was the house comfortable & clean, it was in the perfect location! The living room was cozy with a couch, two chairs, and a 4 top kitchen table. The kitchen had a gas stove with oven, plenty of counter space, and all the plates/cups/utensils you need. Unfortunaly the fridge was the kind that has an icebox on the top, so when you fill it the temp drops, & it won't freeze well. That's honestly my only complaint though! The rooms had nice sheets & good mattresses. The bathroom was clean & spacious. And most importantly, it has screens on the windows & plenty of fans! (We've sadly had an experience at a different rental house which didn't not have screens.... Bad news)
One of the best features is that it's a 45 second walk to the Caribbean ocean! Which is soooo warm year around!!! The Banana Azul is a resort down the same road The Bounty is on, about a 4minute walk away. This resort is really nice, pool, bar, restaurant, whole 9yards. They have bike rentals for $6 a day & they staff was so polite, inviting us to use all there amenities! With our bikes, we could now ride to the center of Puerto Veijo in 5min! (And the town of Puerto is awesome!) The Bounty has a fence around the property so our cars and our bikes were safe at night. They have clean towels to use, mats to lay out at the beach, noodles & bougie boards, and even 2 hoses to rinse the saltwater off after you swim.
The property manager Susan was great as well, recommending and even arranging activities for us in the area. Not only would I recommend this house to just about anyone visiting Costa Rica, I'll probably be back myself! :)
My boyfriend, 4 friends, and I stayed at The Bounty we had a great time swimming in the ocean and also going to tours Susan helped us plan. She was so helpful and sweet she recommend many great tours. My favorite was The Carribean chocolate tour. We also had a great time ziplining and going to the Jaguar rescue. In a great location we rented bikes down the street and road them to town and ate at many great restaurants my favorite was Marcos Pizza. If you love fresh stone-cooked thin crust pizza heated to a perfect crisp then definitely stop by there.
I stayed at The Bounty for almost 3 weeks in November of 2014. I loved it! Susanna who manages the property not only answered all my questions (and I had a lot as this was my first time to the area) but she also helped me make arrangements for transfer to the area which was a lot of fun! (My friend and I white water rafted our way down from San Jose at her suggestion). When we arrived in the evening, we were met by Chilo the caretaker who was so friendly and helpful. The house is right on the beach and a shirt walk to town (took us about 20 minutes on the beach, faster if we walked on the road). There is a small market about a 5 minute walk away with a nice little beach bar with great food across the street. The house was exactly as described and absolutely beautiful! I left the window shutters open and the ocean breeze was amazing. I fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves and the birds. After my friend headed home, I was alone at the house and never once felt unsafe. It was great to have the kitchen, WiFi and laundry at the house. Linda, the owner, came after I had been there for a few days. She lives in the other half of the house (duplex) and she was so awesome to be around. She had so much info about the area and helped me multiple times. A genuinely wonderful person to be around. This house was far enough away town that it was quiet yet close enough to get their easily. There were many days that we had the entire beach, for as far as you could see, to ourselves. I HIGHLY recommend this property!
We stayed here 4 nights in jan/2012. It is located off the beach with wonderful views of the ocean from both the first floor and the second floor balcony. The house is fully screened and with all windows open to the ocean the sounds of the ocean and ocean breezes made for very nice evenings and sleeping. The inside is well furnished and comfortablbe. the washer/dryer was great for us to keep our clothes clean. The owner Linda was in the other duplex and is a very nice person to visit with. Town is about a few minutes drive and a nice experience with lots of places to eat and watch the surfers. For the money this is real value compared to the lodges which charge as much or more for less accomadations. We had a great time there and would go back.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 weeks for a working vacation and had a wonderful time! The house was comfortable and airy had all of the necessary amenities. We took full advantage of the two hammocks on the 2nd floor balcony facing the ocean and had new friends over for barbecues on the first floor balcony. It had plenty of built-in bench seating and lawn chairs to accommodate visitors or just for eating breakfast outside. Though there are screens in all the windows, the house is pretty open so you will share the space with little lizards (but they eat bugs!) and make sure to clean up food and dishes so you don't end up with an ant problem.
The groundskeeper lives next door and keeps the garden looking beautiful all year round. We liked having him nearby because he was able to help us if we needed anything and he was very friendly. We found out later that he built The Bounty many years ago and knew he'd be able to help us if anything went wrong in the house - though nothing ever did. The property manager also lives right down the street and was very friendly and helpful with everything. We felt very safe and taken care of.
We both needed internet to do our work (as telecommuters for companies in the U.S.) and we had very few issues with the internet - it was surprisingly fast and reliable. The electricity went out a few times, so the internet went out as well, but that was to be expected in the Costa Rican Caribbean and we took the opportunity to read and relax. But it was really convenient to have when planning trips from Puerto Viejo. We also had a lockbox to keep our valuable when we left, though we never had any problems with safety or security.
Renting bikes in town is very easy ($4-5 per day) but we purchased bicycles from a hardware store very close to the house because it was cheaper for us that way. We sold them to someone who runs a bike-rental business in town before we left. The ride to town is very quick and easy and the bikes made trips to the grocery store more convenient. The walk to town along the beach is beautiful and about 15 minutes along the sand. Would not recommend walking home at night - take a cab for $4 from town.
It is very easy to get from Puerto Viejo to most anywhere in Costa Rica via public transportation, though it may take longer to go to the Pacific side on the public buses. We ever made it that far. It is very easy to use the public buses to go all along the Caribbean coast.
