Historic House on San Antonio River and Mission hike and bike trail. Our casa is right next door to one of San Antonio's five mission's, Mission San Juan Capistrano. We are on the San Antonio River and the wonderful newly renovated hike and bike trail that connect all the Missions. Skip rocks on the river, watch the sunset or curl up in our comfortable, charming home. With extensive grounds, nestled on 2 acres, we have a real 'getting away from it all' feel while still being conveniently located to all of San Antonio's best attractions -10 miles to downtown- 3 miles to grocery stores, restaurants, a movie theater and shopping!

We fell in love with this historic treasure and renovated it to preserve its roots. When we bought the house it needed a lot of love - it had gone to disarray, but after a lot of sweat and restoration magic, it is now a treasure. The original house was built pre1900. The rest of the house was added in the 30s. It used to be a ranch (cows, sheep, goats) and a pecan orchard. There have been whispers of it being a stagecoach stop, brothel and popular spot during prohibition. The ruin across the street is what's left of Berg's Mill. San Juan, the mission next door was built mid 1700s. The ambiance of our property is seductively peaceful - we are so glad the house can continue to enchant visitors!
We have a fountain and a pond - our kids love looking for frogs, or feeding the fish. The birding on and around our property is spectacular. In the wintertime, we love having fires in the fireplaces, especially the fireplace in the master bedroom. Our property is surrounded by national park land so we are very secluded.
The Walker River House was a great place for our annual girls weekend! 6 friends that went to high school together over 40 years ago! The place was excellent for visiting and gathering together! We toured the Missions, walked on the Trails, drank wine, cooked together, took Uber downtown and overall had a grand experience. The beds were awesome and the grounds were amazing! Thank you! Would highly recommend it!
We loved our girls weekend at this home! Gorgeous and eclectic interior. Beautiful grounds and tons of great seating areas to enjoy a glass of wine.
What a beautiful home. I love that they were able to keep the charm, but it is still comfortable. We had a great, short trip this last weekend and wish we could have stayed longer. We did have one odd thing happen - the rain this weekend was out of control. There was some water in the basement, but other than that, I was impressed by how water-proof the house was. I was expecting many leaks from the old windows since they don't usually get rain like that in San Antonio. We don't get the opportunity to vacation often, but if we ever return to San Antonio, we will definitely stay here.
My friends and I were blown away by the beauty of this vacation rental and loved the outdoor appeal. The pics online are beautiful but in person this was such a neat place to stay. Wonderful kitchen area! We loved all the nooks and was a great peaceful place for 5 college friends to get together for a 40th birthday! Gracious host!! Next door and in walking distance to mission San Juan Capistrano! Great trails this place can't be beat!! Still thinking about it! Want to go back again!!
We stayed here for a long weekend with our two kids (11 and 4) after attending a wedding in town. What an oasis. You are really close to downtown, but feel like you are in the country. The home is very clean, spacious, and has a great eclectic decor. I found something new to admire every day. You really feel like you are staying in a family home. Margaret was there to greet us upon arrival and was very responsive to texts and questions. Beds were comfortable, and kitchen was well-stocked. The only thing we did not use was the pool, as it was not in working order until our last day, but we did not need it. Our kids made use of the swings, bikes, and scooters in the garage, and we used the stroller on a walk to the nearby mission. They loved hearing the rooster in the morning and watching the chickens scratching around outside. We would absolutely stay here again. Thanks for your great hospitality!
What a privilege it was to be guests in this welcoming, well-appointed home. When we began searching for vacation lodging, the per night rate of this home was outside of our budgeted price range. The photos and consistent five-star reviews convinced us to re-work our budget. So glad we did! The reviews are right on target. The grounds, the home, the decor, the privacy, and, yes, Alfredo : ) are all exactly as described in the reviews. I will not repeat them here. Instead, I will tell you that this home easily accommodated my husband and me, and our five children ages 2-14. The house is clean. Very clean. The kitchen will please even a demanding chef. The air conditioning kept us comfortable despite the high temps outside. There is a wonderful culture about this house; you will definitely know that you are in San Antonio. Margaret has been a polite and prompt communicator; she made everything simple. Marriages and families can use terrific vacations to share common experiences and grow stronger relationships. It was a blessing to stay five nights in this lovely home.
