Wildlife can be seen on the property. From the deck we have seen deer across the river most evenings. Bald eagles, Canada geese and wild ducks abound. Bear have been seen, and one time a mountain lion. None of these wild animals are any threat to people. Canoe, kayak, paddle board and rafting on the river are very popular, and of course fishing. Nice rock firepit off deck. You will truly think you have found a slice of heaven.

Best location in Big Fork. The river was picture perfect, the cabin had everything we needed.

Myself and two teen daughters stayed 4 nights and did a different adventure each day. Easy drives to GNP for rafting and horses, Whitefish for zip lining, and Lakeside for boat rental. The kayaks were a huge hit and we rode the bikes to town along a fantastic trail - more of a dirt road (easy ride). We had no bug problem-didn't need the spray. Slept with door open (screen shut) every night. The different toilets were an experience. Outhouse was the farthest (maybe 25 steps) for number one..not too bad. Showerhouse had the incinolet for number two and was close. No sink for hand washing but sanitizer is there. The water pump had a leak so Charlie asked that we turn a valve in the shed on and off to use the cabin sink. The faucet was small and not a lot off pressure for dish washing so we used paper plates. Hopefully that gets fixed. Shower had great pressure and super hot water-the head had about 6 streams coming out but they were powerful. The traffic noise is pretty constant and can lessen the serenity. Just have to block it out if you can. There was no paddle board that a previous review mentioned just in case you're counting on that. Didn't use the sauna room. Water was cold, but temps were about 90 each day so it was refreshing. We did smores twice- the fire pit is right on the deck so it's easy. There were marshmallow sticks there and extra wood and kindling. The fridge is a mini and is outside on the deck. Don't buy anything big. There is also a nice ice cooler on the deck that Charlie had filled with water bottles. Don't expect hotel level clean-it's rustic. There are bugs and dust and sign a mouse lived in the lower cupboards at some point in the past. But the linens are clean, the bed is comfy, the roof over head and all the amenities beat camping any day. We saw deer every day, two otters, a couple little snakes (not near the house), and of course kayakers. I watched in the mornings for bears upriver but never saw them. If it's the right season, definitely go pick cherries and try the huckleberry ice cream next to the Inn. The pub at the back of the Inn has free games-foosball, skee ball, video arcade and the mac n cheese is fantastic.

Overall we had a fabulous vacation. The cabin was perfect for our adventures. If you want seclusion and scenery, this is the place.

Rustic, charming, and a complete Montana experience

  • 5 of 5

We loved our visit to the Log Trapper Cabin. It made our family trip to Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake a complete Montana experience. Our 3 teenage/young adult kids slept fine in the bunks and pull out bed. Everything you need is provided but make sure to bring your own drinking water. Each night we paddled in the canoe and kayaks and then sat at the picnic table by the fire and played games and cards. Charlie met us upon arrival and couldn't have been more helpful and charming. He had the fire set for us the first night. I recommend the cabin to families wanting an outdoor, rustic experience. We loved our visit. Thank you Charile!

Perfect little cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the trapper cabin. It has everything you need and the sauna adds a nice touch. The location is perfect as you are right next to a nature trail that leads into town. Charlie is a great host who is very friendly and welcoming. You can tell he has a lot of pride in the cabin. We can't wait until we can come visit again.

Awesome Week on the River

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this cabin. We have two girls, 8 and 5, and they couldn't get enough of the river and cabin. Charlie met us at the cabin upon arrival and provided a tour of the place. The fire pit and outdoor sauna were a nice touch. I'd highly recommend paying the extra few bucks for access to the river toys and bikes. My 8 year old really took to paddle boarding and having a kayak or canoe to follow her around in was helpful. The 5 year old loved riding shotgun on the paddle board and kayak. Both really enjoyed swimming in the river which wasn't too cold. Location is only a few minutes from Bigfork which was nice for a few restaurants and a grocery store and there is a nice bike that you can take to get downtown. Agree with other reviews that suggest packing bug spray - from later afternoon until bedtime there's quite a few out there. Access to Glacier wasn't too far away (40 minute drive or so) which made day trips into the park pleasant. If we find ourselves in northern Montana again, we'll be back!

I wish we could visit yearly!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely adored this cabin! Location is on the river, I don't think it could be any closer. The host Charlie was absolutely wonderful to deal with, such a nice guy. He met us at the cabin and gave us an intro tour on arrival, it is obvious he takes pride in the is wonderfully cared for. We felt lucky to have found it and will have many fond memories there. The fire pit on the deck is so cool, the bathroom is right out the door and very nice. There is lots of toys to play with and a wonderful sauna. Everything you need is there. Make sure you have bug spray because being on the river the mosquitoes are there. If we ever head back to Glacier/Big Fork we most definitely will return. Thank you!
