About this property
Welcome to EcoCasa Vieques, a new architecturally, designed 3-Br guest apartment for sustainable vacationers. Photovoltaic electric panels which provide 80% of electricity, a solar hot water shower, breezeways on either side of the house to provide natural convection cooling, and clothes lines for open air drying, create an environmentally friendly location where you'll enjoy ocean breezes, and a roof deck with spectacular views. You will share with the ground floor unit a rear-terrace court with a saltwater plunge pool with custom landscape and Brazilian teak lounge chairs that is the ultimate relaxation amenity. EcoCasa is a short walk to both town / ferry and not far from some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Come enjoy this unspoiled tropical paradise
Your space
All spaces are newly finished, modern, and filled with natural light. Large open living-dining area has ability for different groups to gather. Living room has a circular stairway providing access to a roof deck with open areas and ocean views, and a more private trellis area w/ roof top sink/grill.
Guest access
There are two (first come/first serve) parking areas (side carport & rear parking) with garden and breezeway (commercial grade washer/dryer) paths to the second-floor covered access stairway. The rear garden area features a splash pool that is shared with the ground floor unit.
Interaction with Gusts
Mark is an on-site available House Manager and located in the rear Casita late November through Early May - Julie is our Vieques PR yearly local manager (contact information is in the EcoCasa book) with provision for any required repairs and maintenance.
Other things to note
Roof access is for adults only who understand to limit their access to the roof decking areas of the roof only and not beyond parapet walls. The pool in the back yard is open from 9AM to 7PM. For both the pool and the roof deck, all children under 16 must always be accompanied by an adult.

We really enjoyed our stay! This place is so close to the ferry, downtown and close to a lot of restaurants.The rooms are spacious and the house is clean. The host and property manager are on it!!!

Island getaway

Ecocasa is quite an achievement, and it was interesting to stay in a house with such attention to sustainable living. Sarah and Mark were excellent hosts. They were very responsive and most helpful.

Amazing Vieques base camp

We couldn't have asked for a better spot for our family vacation in Vieques! There are beaches, restaurants, bakeries, etc all within walking distance, and the design of the house was so comfortable with the breezes, lots of space to hang out together, and well-outfitted kitchen. We especially loved the solar shower and spending evenings watching the sunset from the upper deck. We appreciated Mark and Sarah's (and previous guests') beach recommendations.

Excellent location and Hosts

We were three couples and rented the upper floor. It was perfect for our needs. It provided the perfect launching point for our activities around the island. Being a two-minute walk from the ferry was a big bonus. The apartments were perfectly clean and Mark and Sarah could not have been more gracious. We would have no reservation in recommending this accommodation to anyone.

Peter and his friends were great guests. They followed the rules and were quiet and courteous. They followed the leaving instructions and it was easy to clean up after them. We would be happy to host them again.

Rejuvenating

Our trip to EcoCasa in Vieques was wonderful. EcoCase is a beautiful property with many design details clearly thought through, well built, and outfitted with everything needed other than our clothes. Congrats and thank you to Mark and Sarah. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to stores, galleries, and restaurants. Mid 80's every day and no need for the AC at night as the EcoCasa natural ventilation design captures the cool ocean breeze. We were fortunate to be there when Mark was in Vieques and he is a wonderful host. Nature is everywhere in Vieques, the beaches are beautiful, and the people are welcoming. We are a retired couple living in Boston, but we like to spend our winter months in Vieques. Mark is quite a sportsman who likes to swim, sail, row, and play tennis and golf. He travels once a week to play at one of the many great courses on the main island. Sarah enjoys taking walks on the beach and sitting in the shade reading, cooled by the soft Caribbean breezes. We both enjoy entertaining and have made some good friends since we have been here. We enjoy meeting new people and telling them some of the amazing experiences to be had on Vieques.

EcoCasa is located in the Bravos de Boston neighborhood, up the hill from the ferry in Isabel Segunda. It is a five-minute walk to town where you will find restaurants, grocery stores, clothing boutiques, art galleries, aqua equipment rental stores, a pharmacy and several souvenir shops. A couple of small secret beaches are a five - ten-minute walk away, and it is a short ride to the ‘Nature Preserve’ where most of the beautiful beaches are located… and there are plenty of them. It is not unusual to have a cove with ¼ mile beach all to yourself.

Mark is an architect with 50+ years of experience in high profile international design. In his retirement he has enjoyed designing limited environmentally sensitive residences both in Vieques and New England. The house, which was finished in late 2022, has a simple but elegant feel, commodious living spaces and a breathtakingly beautiful garden. Porches on upper floors have ocean views and each unit has outdoor terraces for dining. The eco-friendly design subtly incorporates photovoltaic solar energy (86% of electrical usage), convection cooling breezeways, rainwater capture for watering gardens/car-wash, etc., organic cotton sheets, and clothes lines for drying laundry. With louvered windows, ceilings fans in all rooms, and through ventilation, make it possible to limit use of AC to only the hottest summer months.
