This is the best location in New Orleans... right on Bourbon Street. Our building was constructed in 1822 and is magnificent. Twelve-foot ceilings, curved stair cases and balconies are architecturally significant to our condominium. Totally updated, with new carpet, and renovated our unit is like no other.
You can walk to Jackson Square, the Casino, the Convention Center, and the Mississippi River. Take a ride on a paddlewheeler to the world-class zoo or a tour of an historical plantation by the banks of the river. Some of the best restaurants in the world are right here in New Orleans, and you can take cooking classes featuring Creole cuisine. Antique shopping is excellent on Royal and Magazine Streets.
My husband and I have visited New Orleans for several years now, and have stayed in many different hotels. After staying here we will never stay in another hotel room again. Large condo with all the ammenities needed. The Po-Boy Shop within a minute walking distance has fantastic food at a reasonable price and eating your po-boy on the balcony while watching people on Bourbon Street was a plus. Two blocks away is the hustle of Bourbon Street so if needed (earplugs) will knock out any noise. My only advise is to close shutters at night or the sun will shine in and wake you, if you want it to or not. Ms Flo you and your home were perfect...thanks for everything. Looking forward to coming back.
We squeezed in 3 nights at Miss Floris's in between business in LA; it was everything represented and said by other reviewers, except I think the master bath has just been redone. A little worn in some areas, but maybe that just gave it a more comfy and authentic feel, after all it's almost 200 yrs old! If only those walls could talk! Lot's of linens, plenty of coffee, full sized kitchen appliances, lot's of chairs and tables, everything we needed, and very safe.
Sitting on the balcony is the best people watching you can get, and the neighborhood locals are entertaining and nice. We strolled Bourbon St during the night (1-2AM) once, but decided it was more fun to watch from our balcony- you don't have to watch where you are walking (old cobblestone streets remember) and dodge all the people. We followed the other recommendations and took ear plugs - glad we did, the partying went till about 4AM, and this was a non-event weekend. But that was why we were there - and for the food. Clover Grill across the street- great breakfast and burgers, 24 hrs. Very popular with the locals, terrific people. Walk to Buffa's on Esplanade (and Burgandy?) -amazing shrimp and grits. Smoky local bar full of real local people- locals call it the best breakfast in NO (tied with Clover Grill, depending on who you talk with). The market on the corner of Royal and I think it was St Philip was amazing. Get take out food and enjoy. Great taste, lots of choices and inexpensive. We walked everywhere, although the bus and street car are easy too. St Louis Cemetary, museums, waterfront, French Market- all close.
All in all, a great apartment with tons of room; those pictures are real, except I didn't see one of the cute, small room/closet with the twin bed in it just off the master. There is a beautiful, large curving staircase to go up, so it's not so great if stairs are a challange. Everything is antique, clean and neat. And the people that help Miss floris in the laundry are so nice too. The parking wasn't free anymore, but it is safe and close; just fine. If we get close to New Orleans again, we will be calling on Miss Floris. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
This was our first time staying with Mrs. Floris. Upon arriving, the staff of the laundromat helped us get in the designated FREE parking spot (this alone saves you 30+ a night in parking). We got to the apartment which was very large and clean. Now, the carpet isn't in the best shape nor is it fancy but it's clean and very spacious. You cannot beat the location. We loved watching people from the balcony, being able to make our own cheap drinks and walking down Bourbon. The Clover Grill across the street had a great BLT! At the end of the weekend, it was hard to leave. Can't wait to be back! A few tips: the chairs on the balcony are a bit hard so I brought the collapsable fabric chairs. Bring plastic cups if you want to make a drink and walk down Bourbon. If you are highly sound sensitive, bring ear plugs when you're ready to go to sleep. She has a loud fan in the room that masks a lot of the sound but some people may need ear plugs.
This is our 3rd time staying with Ms. Floris. Our first time was French Quarter Festival 2012. The French Doos with old metal latches and shutters opening to the balcony are great. The balcony wraps around and faces Bourbon and Dumaine. It's not extremely fancy, but if you are looking for a clean place with kitchen and plenty of living space, in a great location this 2nd floor unit is definately worth considering. The Quarter grocery 2 blocks away has awesome po-boys and almost anything you will need while staying in New Orleans. Ms. Floris is great and has a unique perspective of the French Quarter and New Orleans, having spent many years operating their cleaners on the 1st floor. The entire staff at the cleaners is very friendly. If you are driving into New Orleans and can bring your bikes, it's a great way to get around the quarter. Bicycle rentals are also available at 2 locations in the quarter.
My husband and I stayed at in this apartment this past weekend for the St. Joseph's Italian American Marching Club parade. It met all of our needs - from the Bourbon Street balcony, to the spacious accomodations, to the excellent location. Having lived in New Orleans years ago, there is nothing like hearing the cathedral bells and listening to the clip-clop of the horse drawn carriages. Thank you Miss Floris for letting us stay at your rental. We certainly will be back again.
You're right on Bourbon, with balconies, which is great, but it's also noisy, which isn't so great. The apartment is huge, with charming high ceilings and nearly ceiling-height original French doors and shutters, which were fun to open each day. But the carpets are old and worn and the bathrooms are a bit out of date. We loved the location, in the center of everything, and the owner could not be nicer, right below in the laundry all day. You can't beat the price, but you've got to accept a few imperfections.
