The front yard has a picket fence and is landscaped with roses, seasonal flowers and bougainvillea. There is a large shaded front porch with a teak bench for enjoying the cool breeze off the Gulf of Mexico.
The back yard is fenced and landscaped as well. There is a red brick patio with a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill for cookouts. There is an outdoor shower with hot and cold water and a foot wash for rinsing off the sand from you or your pets after a day at the beach.
The house is centrally located and minutes from the beach, seawall, Pleasure Pier, the Strand, Moody Gardens, and Schlitterbahn water park. There are several great restaurants close by, as well and grocery and outdoor gear stores.
Given the property’s location and amenities, it is perfect for a couple’s retreat, a weekend getaway with friends, family vacation, or long-term rental for snowbirds escaping the cold winters.

Excellent location and very pleasant living area. Beds were extremely comfortable and kitchen well stocked! Would recommend this venue to everyone. Close to beaches and restaurants and the Strand!
Excellent property for any stay in Galveston. The house has plenty of amenities and in great condition. I will definitely consider this property again. The owner was very responsive to our questions as well. Overall, we had a great experience here.
This is such a great property to spend time in. Private beautiful little street to feel secluded. The entire process was so nice, simple and relaxing. The owners have a great place for others to enjoy. The outdoor shower is perfect after a day at the beach. Will be back to this little home away from home.

Thanks for staying and glad you enjoyed the outdoor shower. Hope to see you again soon!
It’s a perfect house, clean, has everything we needed. Very comfortable. Great fenced yard. Open floor plan, so the family could always be together. Plenty of seating. Awesome kitchen.
Had to work remotely so appreciated the fast Wi-Fi. Also, the beds were super comfortable with top notch linens. Street parking readily available, just steps outside the front door. Lawn freshly mowed and trash pickup a breeze. Close to the beach & downtown. Would highly recommend this property.
As soon as we walked in, we loved it! Very open, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with all utensils and appliances. The bedrooms are large and the beds extremely comfortable! The location is perfect and the yards are great for your fur-kids. The owners are always available and accommodating! We will definitely be going back!
This property exemplifies why people like us use VRBO. The description, cleanliness, ease of check in and communication with the host set the gold standard. Everything about this property exceeded my expectations. My only complaint is that I only get to Galveston once a year to stay at this beautiful home away from home. I strongly recommend this property as a 5 star stay in Galveston!
My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a long holiday stay at your cottage. Thank you! Galveston is a very interesting city for history buffs like us. We also went bird watching and out for great Cajun food. Two great coffee places: Red Light and Corduroy. Yum. Hope to be back.
We stayed here for about month over the summer. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. It is a short walking distance from the beach and town centre. The house has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable, but it's is missing a dishwasher, which was a bit of a pain during a longer stay. However we did accept this fact when booking, because it is beautiful! I'd highly recommend it!
We loved our stay at the property. It was centrally located to everything and I felt comfortable walking around the neighborhood. I was also able to walk to the sea wall from the house. The house has a beautifully designed interior, and the outside grounds were beautifully maintained as well with plants and flowers. You can see the pride the owners have in this home by the way the property looked. The owners were easy to contact if we had any questions. We will definitely stay at this property again in the very near future.
My husband and I love spending time in Galveston. We have rented another property from the owners and they are always wonderful hosts. Thank you for sharing your home with us. Everything was great and we'll be back!!
Hosts are available by phone and answer any questions, or take care of a need. House is in a quiet, accessible location and has a peaceful yard. It is the perfect home for quiet relaxation! Well appointed and well maintained. Not a home for noisy people or parties. Enjoy!!
This property was great for our family and pet. Was within walking distance to the beach for us (0.5 miles away). Super quiet neighborhood with a nice park nearby. Centrally located for all of the other activities Galveston had to offer. We loved this place.
Very quiet location, convenient to beach, restaurants, nice walking areas nearby. Nicely and simply decorated. We had a short stay but we’d return to the property.
We totally enjoyed our stay! The location of the property is very quiet and close to so many things both walking and by car. The property owners could not have been more accommodating!
Convenient location, quiet neighborhood on dead end street with privacy (nice to have our coffee on the front porch in our pajamas!). The house was clean and very comfortable. We must agree with other visitors about the beds - they are great. Entry to Kempner Park was a short walk around the block from the house and it's a beautiful park. As avid gardeners ourselves we appreciated the roses, caladiums and other landscaping, as well as fencing around entire property. Hope to come again.
This is a lovely, small home in a lovely quiet location. Located next to the end of a dead end street which overlooks the Garten Verein and Kempner Park. Very relaxing setting sitting on the front porch enjoying coffee to the chirping birds in the evening. We took a nice walk around the block and through the park to enjoy the lovely park. Beds are very comfortable and the home was clean and comfortable.
Loved our stay here. The home was clean and very well kept. We will definitely be returning on our next trip!

About the host
Hosted by Doug Harris
We have been IBCs (Islanders By Choice) since 2004. We grew up coming to the island as children to fish and go to the beach, but started weekending here in 2004. The more we came, the more we fell in love with the island. There are so many interesting sites and events to see and do here, and we are constantly finding new things to do. We enjoy fishing, walking on the beach, riding our bikes along the seawall, paddle boarding in the Gulf and bays, and attending the various festivals and art shows throughout the year. We are now on our 3rd property in Galveston and spend almost all of our time here now.
Why they chose this property
The home at 2802 is a well constructed example of the brick cottages built in the late 20's. It's proximity to the Kempner Park, the beach and it's view of the Hutchings Mansion were deciding factors as well. The fact that we had recently purchased other properties close by, for the same reasons, sealed the deal.
What makes this property unique
The best part of this house is it's location. It is on a quite residential dead-end street, yet centrally located. The beach is just a short 6 block walk away. At the end of the street is Garten Verein, a former German social club organized in 1876 and is now a public park maintained by the Galveston Historical Foundation. Across the street is the 1856/1889 John H. Hutchings home, a three story mansion occupying almost three full acres. The Hutchings home has over 80 live oak trees and is home to several hawks and egrets. A daily treat is to sit on the front porch of the house and watch the hawks hunt between the mansion and park grounds.
