About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 and a half Baths, Water Views

If you want privacy, this is the place for you. This retreat is located on a tiny peninsula of land. When my grandfather purchased over 250 acres of Lady’s Island back in the late 1940’s, he always considered this 4 acre tract the jewel in the crown. It was his retreat from town long before my parents built a home here. Pap would come and put his boat in down at the shell ramp.

He’d cast his net in Little Lucy for those scrumptious creek shrimp to put over his grits. He fished around the bend at one of the best fishin holes in Beaufort County. He always dreamed of living here. Its location on one of the highest bluffs overlooking deep water on Lady’s Island made it an ideal home site.

So in the 1970’s my mom designed this home and had Elias Pinkney build it. The brick home, which is shaded by live oaks draped in Spanish moss commands views of more than 400 feet of the shoreline of Little Lucy Creek and its salt marshes. Each bedroom has its own unique view of the water.

From the Master Bedroom you can see the sunrise or moonrise over the dock on Little Lucy Creek. But from your queen size bed you have another view that looks down the creek and toward the sunset.

From the guest bedroom you also have a view of the dock on the creek. From the third bedroom each twin bed has a view of the creek and salt marsh. Enjoy your morning coffee at the kitchen table or on the screen porch with its panoramic views of the entire sunrise/sunset experience.

There is also seating out on the bluff so you can watch for the dolphins that swim by on the high tides or watch the stingrays, egrets and herons that come in to feed on low tide. We also have visits to the oyster bank below the bluff from a family of raccoons. Deer swim the creek to hide and feed among the magnolias and oaks. A pair of pileated woodpeckers has taken up residency in our piney woods by the dock.

This is our home and so we have tried to think of everything that might make your stay with us more comfortable. We have recently remodeled the interior to reflect our own love of Mid-Century modern furnishings( Very MadMen Like). There are lovely wood floors throughout. There are ceiling fans in almost every room and central heat and AC when desired. The giant living room with its 20 foot vaulted ceiling and open dining area were made for entertaining. For those who would rather stay inside there is seating in front of a 55 inch LED wide screen T.V.This service is provided through Direct TV. Computer access is through WIFI . A second TV is located in the Master Bedroom.

There is also seating in front of the wood burning stone fireplace. There is a large desk for visiting writers, computer users or grand kids working on jigsaw puzzles. The pillow top beds have soft sheets, comfy pillows and beautiful coverlets.

The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances, cookware, china glassware and utensils. There are two and a half bathrooms for everyone’s comfort and privacy. There is also generous closet space throughout the house so that you can store all your gear and belongings during your visit.

The porch is equipped with seating for all and an outdoor patio has a gas grill. The new dock is equipped with a float and kayak launch. Or you can put your boat, kayak or canoe in down at the shell ramp right on the property. There is also a boat landing two miles away at Sam’s Point where Forest Gump was filmed.

Our retreat is within easy drive of Hilton Head, Charleston and Savannah. It is @five minutes from all the necessary stores. A ten minute drive over a scenic bridge will get you to Downtown Beaufort with its shops, carriage rides and restaurants. In fifteen you can be at historic Port Royal and Paris Island. In twenty minutes you can be at one of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast at Hunting Island State Park and Lighthouse. There is a free pass to enter the park available during your stay.

For golfers there is a terrific public course at Cat Island . For nature lovers there are boat tours of the ACE basin. A notebook is available with information about our favorite things to do in the area and places to eat, shop and visit.

Or you may be like us and just sit on that porch watching the world of the tides come and go. They say that once you have smelled the pluff mud it gets in your veins and pulls you back just like the tides.

About Ann Griffey Burgess

Jack and I are both musicians and spend the majority of our retired time playing music, attending concerts, fiddlers conventions and visiting with our family around the country. But when we need to renew ourselves we head for our home on this beautiful creek. We hope that you leave here as restored and refreshed as we do.

Ann Griffey Burgess purchased this house in 2008

Why Ann Griffey Burgess chose Low Country & Resort Islands

This property has been in Annie's family since the 1950's. This was the place where the family celebrated holidays and important family events. We have always loved to go there to relax and unwind. We can kayak down the creek but often just relax on the porch with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and watch the tides come and go through the marshes.

What makes this house unique

First, we love that we have this incredible private panoramic view of Little Lucy

Creek from almost every room of the house. When we get tired of the view (almost never) the house is located near this quiet neighborhood where we can walk Polly our dog and safely take the grandkids bike riding. It's great being so close to Beaufort with great restaurants and shops. We are also so close to the beach at Hunting Island State park, which is one of the most pristine beaches we have ever been to. We go there as much in the winter as in the summer. There is a free pass to the Park available to you during your stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Annie, I want to thank you, Jack and Melissa for letting my Dad and me stay in your house on the creek. We had a wonderful time, and particularly enjoyed watching the tides, the birds, and the dolphins. One day an otter swam down the little stream that runs right in front of the bluff. My Dad loved Hunting Island State Park so much that we took our bikes there 4 out of the 6 days. What a nice unspoiled place. Thanks for sharing the pass. Melissa was a great hostess.

The home was inviting and the views were exquisite. It made you want to know more about this history of the home and it's family because you felt like a part of it for a short time.

Quaint, cozy, and secluded home on the point-

  • 4 of 5

Our family spent the first week in August 2016 at this cozy home. Main draws for us were the docks, and some peaceful time by the water - or on the water as we brought two kayaks to 'sneak up on nature'. It worked.

We caught plenty of crab every day, but the great neighbor next door said the 87 degree water was too hot. It was quite a sight to see the tide go out and the creek became impassable. Sure could see where the flounder hang out when they are there.

Remarkably, we NEVER were challenged by mosquitos all week!! Likely the steady breeze was a factor, but it was quite a surprise and a blessing.

The house worked fine for our family. It is a '70's house and is very functional. The A/C was challenged some afternoons, but never got above 74 degrees. We used the kitchen for our own meals and only ate out one time. Went to Gay Seafood for our go with our fresh caught crab. Never knew to clean them before cooking, and it was a much simpler way to prepare them.

The only negative was the old, heavy glass sliding doors to the house on the back....and the two to the screened porch. They have a hard time sliding in the track and it took some muscle to move them. All the plumbing and electrical worked fine.

We did need to pick up more paper towels, toilet paper, and there was no dishwashing detergent but that was likely just our turn to buy. So, the smaller kitchen was adequately stocked, but not abundantly stocked. We purchased bottled water several times at Publix down the road.

I can say that Annie was very pleasant to speak with and work with in making arrangements. We would go back and kayak through those marshes more. We climbed the Hunting Island Lighthouse and took panoramic photos from the catwalk, and fished on the Hunting Island Pier one day. A very comfortable get-away for sure.

Owner's Response: Hi Chris Glad you enjoyed the retreat. Sounds like our great breeze kept those pesky mosquitoes to a minimum and that the crabbing was good. With all the rain and humidity the sliding doors have been a little tricky this summer. In the future just let me know so that we can get our handyman over to get em sliding properly. Also, its often hard to anticipate individual groups needs. So if there are any basic supplies that you need also just let us know. Hope you enjoyed the addition of your new grandchild to the visit. Thanks for staying with us, Annie

Lovely, private place with quiet tranquility and all conveniances on a scenic marsh/creekfront.

  • 5 of 5

Our ideal, perfect setting away from the beehive tourist rattrap, but close enough to get to that if you want it. Lovely house on waterfront setting, where we fished and caught blue crabs (and cooked them) all day long. 20 minutes from either downtown historic Beaufort or the open beachfront at Hunting Island State Park. We loved spending time at both, as in days of yore.

Much has changed in Beaufort since my wife and I lived there in the 70's, often to the detriment of the old time charm. But this lovely site is unchanged by time. Spanish moss, oystershell driveway, salt ocean air, dolphins in the creek passing the boat dock, this has it all.

Had a question for Ann, and on the phone she was prompt, helpful, and totally interested in us and our stay.

Ann, thanks for all the fishing/crabbing gear on site, and the completeness of your kitchen array. We used it all for a great time. Three lovely bedrooms each with a great decor and marshfront view were terrific. The greatroom with cable TV was perfect for group gathering (not that we spent much time indoors, in this fabulous setting). The acre+ yard with marsh around two sides is spectacular.

Again, a totally pleasing vacation package in July, just as shown on the website and backed up by real owner interest.

The property was stunning and the home was immaculate and beautifully decorated in a retro scheme. It was so well stocked in every way that we could have left half of our van contents at home. So as a courtesy, we replaced what we used to keep everything fresh for the next renters. The beds were comfortable, although a king size would have been better. Overall, it didn't matter that much anyway.

We saw 4 porpoises at the dock the first day we were there. (the dock was wonderful) We saw herons, pelicans, egrets, and many more birds including one that we could not identify. We are bird nerds, so that was exciting and frustrating. We spent most of our time on the screened in patio and the dock. There is water on 3 sides of this home, and we didn't want to miss a minute of the beauty of this gem. We caught lots of blue crabs and made all kinds of things with them. Yummmm!!

Annie and Jack though of virtually everything! There were even fresh flowers and a bottle of wine waiting for us. We are in love with this property and the owners. Thank you so much for the sensory overload that we needed. A true retreat from the hustle and bustle that we all live. It felt like we were on some tropical island far away, but stores were only 4 miles away. I would highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay and that the amenities exceeded your expectations. Our guests comfort is important to us.While we can't control the wildlife it never ceases to impress. I'm curious about the unidentifiable bird. If you discover it's name please let me know. If we decide to change out the beds I'll give you credit Please come back Annie and Jack
