It felt like we may have been the first guests. Advertised as a golf rental but we didn’t have access to the golf course there (members only). No BBQ utensils, knife sets, and other misc items. We bought pool towels, spoons, Kuerig coffee maker and hangers. We are easy-going and were fine until we got a notification from the insurance company that the owners submitted claims for almost $3,000 in damages.
My wife and I are in our mid 60’s and have owned two VRBO vacation rentals ourselves for 8 years. You couldn’t find guests that would take better care of a home. The list of damages included a chipped glass table in the living room (absolutely false) and damage to some old nightstands in the guest room. There was a bike in the garage that we moved out of the way. We wouldn’t have ridden it anyway but it had a flat tire. The owners even submitted a claim for a tire puncture and bike chain repair.
The mandatory insurance we had to buy was a condition of the rental. All I can figure is that their “business plan” is to earn additional income from bogus insurance claims.
I will say that the resort neighborhood is wonderful. We even purchased a home here while on the trip. I only take 3 stars for the location of this particular home because the back yard is tiny and looks at a 6’ block wall along a busy street.

BE CAUTIOUS- NEVER RENT TO THESE TENANTS!!!
1. They are very careless. They were only there for a month and had absolutely NO regard or respect for our property or house rules!!! People like them are the reasons Hosts have to be diligent about taking the BEFORE and AFTER pictures to protect their assets else hosts will be left high and dry with extra damages and cost incurred.
2. Thank God for the insurance protection else all the damages made by this guest would’ve come out of our pocket. It was not worth renting your homes to them.
3. We literally found over 20 nicks and chips through the home where they had banged their luggages;
4. They further over stuffed the dishwasher putting dishes on top of each other which would normally require 3 cycles to clean and didn’t even bother to prewash them causing our NEW dishwasher to clog up.
5. We have several one of a kind high end designer furniture pieces in our home so our guests can truly enjoy our resort home. This guests also banged things into our $5k 1970 collection designer coffee table and literally chipped the glass on 2 of the ends along with putting large noticeable scratches on the metal contemporary metal base.
6. They further damaged our end tables in both bedrooms and left scratch marks which ruined the polish.
7. They say they own vacation rentals of their own. Well those must be very low end because they really don’t know how to RESPECT THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE!!!
8. As for the BBQ..we left brand new utensils and even a new copper sheet in the BBQ for grilling salmon…which was filthy and found in our back yard floor when they check out. There were also new knife sets, wooden hangers, high end spoons, forks and knives of all things. Not to mention iron 4 brand new pool towels that we got specially from Costco for them. It doesn’t get better than this.
9. As for the golf usage, yes the property is located I. A community with a golf course but guests need to pay the golf management per game if they choose to access this amenities.
10. Although we paid extra so that they can use all of the other amenities as a grand gesture but looking back we probably shouldn’t have given the state they left our home in.
11. The home comes fully stocked with coffee machine, 15 different organic herbal teas, regular and decaf Starbucks coffee, several flavors of creamers, cups, water bottles, breakfast bars, all the branded toiletries and so much more…but I guess they are used to the cheap stuff as we found store brand coffee bags and shampoo left behind.
12. My husband was nice enough to leave his relatively new bike in the garage and they totally flatten the tire, and scratched the bike and didn’t even bother to get it fixed or tell us.
13. They claim that they are easy going and I would agree that they are soooo easy going that they will totally abuse all your amenities, damage your home and furniture and leave the home filthy. With guests like them, hosts should go back to traditional rentals.
14. I am so happy we had the before pictures that we were able to share with VRBO to protect our assets else would’ve been extreme loss to fix all the damages they left behind.
15. BE SMART AND NEVER RENT TO THESE PEOPLE AS THEY WILL LEAVE YOU HIGH & DRY WITH A LARGE BILL!!!
