St. Lawrence River - Loon Lodge at Oak Point

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,300 sq. ft.
Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, large sleeping loft, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 6 to 8 comfortably

Loon Lodge is in the heart of Oak Point, felt by many to be the most family friendly and enjoyable community in the Thousands Islands! Relax on the screened porch while playing a game of Monopoly or enjoying a sunset dinner overlooking the bay.

Inside the lodge, the first floor has an open living/dining area, kitchen with full sized appliances, bathroom with full tub/shower, and two bedrooms. View the majestic St. Lawrence all the way to the lighthouse on Crossover Island from the large 2nd floor sleeping loft.

The expanded dock area has plenty of room to sit and enjoy the view, jump in the water, dock your boat, fish, sip your coffee in the morning or a cocktail at happy hour. Take a day trip to many US & Canadian attractions in Alexandria Bay, Clayton, Kingston or Brockville. Museums, historic castles & forts, island parks, great restaurants. Perfect for families, couples, fishermen, hunters, golfers, cyclists. Dock space and canoe rental are available. We look forward to your stay with us!

The Oak Point Community: Oak Point truly is a one of a kind community. As 4th generation Oak Pointers, we can tell you that once you visit, you will return again and again. Kids love all the activities - swimming in the bay, fishing off the dock, visits to the Acorn Community Center for candy & game nights, the 4th of July parade, land & water games and ice cream social. Adults love it for the same reasons! Take a walk around the circle and visit the historic cemetery, swing on the swings at the Acorn, bike through the farm country, buy local produce and baked goods at an Amish farm. Free town boat launch just steps away from the lodges.

On the Water: The earliest Native Americans called this region Manitowana - the Garden of the Great Spirit, and it is a vacationers' dream! Nature and water activities abound - cruise the 1000 islands, kayak in the early morning or evening to get close to nature, sail or windsurf through the whitecaps, go water-skiing or tubing along the coast, jet ski through the seaway channel, watch the Poker Run speedboat races between Kingston and Brockville, start a list of all the international ships plying the channel (they are especially beautiful at night with their deck lights glowing). The Thousands Islands is the world's finest fresh water diving destination - dive the many wrecks in water so clear you can see up to 100'. Or just sit on the dock and dangle your feet in the water!

Special Interests: Fishing - Pike season starts the 1st Sat. in April; Bass & Muskie seasons start the 3rd Sat. in June. Muskie fishing is best in late fall, and ice fishing is great in mid winter! Kids love catching perch, sunfish & rock bass off the docks.

Golfing - nearest course is Langbrook Meadows in Brier Hill; nearby are 3 on Wellesley Island, 3 in Clayton, 2 in Governeur, New York State Park Course in Ogdensburg, Alexandria Bay Municipal Course in Alex Bay.

Hunting - we are open for duck & deer hunting seasons in the Spring/Fall.

Cycling - there is a great off-road, rails-to-trails system along the river, with difficulty levels ranging from simple to challenging.

Diving - there are many dive outfitters in the region who can take you to the numerous popular and interesting wreck sites all up and down the river.

Perfect for a Multi-Generation Gathering

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at the Lodges at Oak Point for a family reunion. There were 26 of us - ages 3-87 - and everyone loved the location. We rented all 5 lodges. Although we did outings to Boldt Castle, Alexandria Bay, two wineries, and a golf course, everyone really seemed to enjoy just hanging around Oak Point. Many got up early to walk or jog. The river was perfect for swimming and we rented boats to fish, tube, and just cruise around exploring. The cottages were spacious and allowed us to congregate inside for games and conversation - and the porches and porch swings were a favorite place to hang out. We gathered at the picnic tables on the lawn in the evening for dinner and several nights made s 'mores in the fire pit by the river. We've been holding these reunions every other year since the early 70's and we really appreciated the well-stocked and organized lodges and the kindness of one of the owners, Lisa, who was always responsive and patiently answered a lot of questions. Thanks for a FANTASTIC week! I would highly recommend the Lodges at Oak Point!

Owner's Response: This lovely and much appreciated review is so indicative of you and your whole family - I'm seriously considering asking to be adopted into your gracious and very fun family! I'm so glad you and your father found us last year in your search for a family reunion location in the Thousand Islands, and we were delighted to welcome you to our Lodges and to Oak Point. I particularly loved seeing the youngest members of the various families "making memories" together with all the generations. That's how strong families are made, and I applaud you for creating the opportunity, every two years, for family members to experience the joy of getting together and appreciating life together. I know you go to different places each time, but in case you "forget" you have already been here, we would love to have you back!!!

A great summer retreat for us.

  • 5 of 5

We spent the months of July and August in Pike Cottage at Oak Point Lodges. We were attempting to escape the heat of our out of state year round home and enjoy the River. We had a great view of the little bay and the river traffic. There was nearly always a breeze from the bay. The screened in porch provided a great place to watch the river activities protected from the insects. And it was very relaxing. The sandy beach and easy access to our boat at the dock made the river experience nearly perfect. Our cottage was newly built and designed to take advantage of the breezes and was very convenient. The kitchen was well stocked with microwave, dishwasher, and lots of pots and pans. It was very clean and well maintained. The community at Oak Point was friendly and we made lots of friends in the area. The owners Lisa and Stephen went out of their way to address any needs that we had. We needed to have the internet working reliably and they worked with us immediately upon our arrival to make sure that it worked for us. It bears emphasis that the Lisa and Stephen were there, locally, and went out of their way to make the cottage work for us. The proximity to the town dock was also a plus for us. We could hear the happy sounds of children playing in the water and that is a great summer sound. The cottage was convenient for our family visitors and our granddaughter found ready playmates for her two weeks there. As seasonal renters we enjoyed meeting lots of different people who rented from the other cottages at the Lodges. Lisa made sure that we were aware of the local events and we could participate as much or as little as we wanted. It was nice to be part of a community with such a sense of history. It was everything we wanted it to be. There are lots of activities nearby so if you wanted more to do than use the river for boating, fishing and swimming, you could go golfing, horse back riding, visit the castles nearby on the islands, and attend lots of arts and craft events. All in all it was a wonderful place to spend the summer and we would stay there again. We would encourage vacationers who are looking for a month or a whole summer to give The Lodges a good close look. We highly recommend it.

Great spot on the St. Lawrence

  • 5 of 5

For the last 50 years, we have been staying in the 100-year-old cottages that were the original Oak Point Trading Post. The new owners, Lisa and Steve, have replaced those with new and very upscale ‘lodges’. The kitchens are modern and well stocked, it is all wood inside with cathedral ceilings, great beds, optional linens and they have screened porches!!. It is almost impossible to find new or high-end cottages on the river. So this is a treat.

We had a family reunion (26 of us) there this summer and it was the perfect facility for us. All the cabins open out to a common lawn for all the festivities. Oak Point bay is the only place I know of on the river that has a sandy bottom for swimming. And it is only a couple feet deep off the docks.

Fishing is good all year and boat rentals are available nearby. Mink run along the shores looking for fish, beavers swim in the bay, great-horned owls and osprey nest nearby, turtles sun on rocks everywhere, birding is exceptional – pretty much a natural paradise. Ocean liners travel the river, sunsets are like Key West and Alexandria Bay is a famous place for summer activities including an island castle tour.

The lodges at Oak Point are awesome. I give it 5 stars plus. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Wow - you should be a writer for the Thousand Islands Sun - such a great description of our beloved river and Oak Point! I don't know who had more fun, the adults who kept coming up with fun ideas for family activities, or the kids who were the beneficiaries of that creativity! A nice combination, and a great recipe for wonderful family memories. Thanks for being our guests. Who would have imagined this when we were little kids ourselves, playing together during the summers at Oak Point?!

It doesn't get better than this...

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place so much last year that we brought several other families with us this year and rented 4 cabins. The kids were in heaven, swimming every day in the crystal clear water with a beautiful sandy bottom. They loved going to Penny Candy night at the store and used the rock garden as a stage for their talent show performances. With fishing charters, castle tours, kayaking and swimming there was plenty to keep us busy. Lisa, the host, knows the area and made some great recommendations. She is nearby and is extremely attentive and accommodating.

Great time was had by all!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Georgia! We loved having your family and friends stay at Oak Point. You were so smart to bring the dress up box - what a creative group of children! And congrats to the gentlemen who did some fantastic fishing with fishing guide Dave Gascon in Alex Bay! Your family are real ambassadors for the Thousand Islands, and it is heartwarming to see you share the River with your friends.

Great time had by all!

We stayed in the Heron Cabin. Friends and family had rented the surrounding cabins. All the families had a blast. The kids (ranging from age of 3-13) loved the dock and swimming in the river. Touring the Thousand Islands by boat was also a favorite. We travelled from Arizona and definitely thought it was worth the trip.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Aline! Your stay really covered the full gamut of weather and activities - I think you were the first to arrive and the last to leave! We so enjoyed seeing all the kids making memories together. The week just seemed to fly by. You are a delightful group of family and friends. It's not always easy to make the time to get away as a group, and I congratulate you on your good judgment and perseverance in making it happen!
