Enjoy the best of both worlds. Playground for adults and children. You can enjoy all the activities associated with sound access including kayaking, canoeing, crabbing, (crab traps available), and clamming, etc. The house has a pier on a large marsh bay area that is safe boating for children. The inland waterway is several hundred yards away and while accessible, it is heavily traveled by yachts. Yachts, which are a pleasure to watch and to watch out for while boating. Our bay area averages a depth of 3 ft. which makes it ideal for the young ones. Many variety of birds including osprey, great herons, egrets, pelicans are in attendance at all times. Watch them from the back deck or while relaxing in the hot tub.

On the ocean side, there is walkover to the beach. No walking a good distance to locate a way to get to/on the beach. The beach is never crowded even on holiday weekends. The beach is a jewel waiting to be discovered.

A fully gourment style kitchen with modern Fisher/Paykel appliances is something to be enjoyed and enhanced with 180 degree views of ocean and sound. The spacious kitchen also allows many helping hands to make the experience much easier on the main chef.

Totally remodeled in 2006 to upgrade and provide us with the 'bells and whistles we wanted in a dream house at the beach. The house is really divided into two sections, one for the younger ones to enjoy and escape to watch tv, movies, and video games and one for the adults to sit and relax.

Keywords: Open style kitchen, family room, and dining room afford 360 views of ocean and intracoastal waterway. Near 4 star golf course.

The house is unique. The property runs from sound to ocean. It allows you to fish, crab, clam, and kayak in the sound then walk 100 feet across a two lane road to sit on the beach and enjoy the ocean. Outside shower and hot tub makes your stay that much more enjoyable. If a beach experience is what you are looking for, Sound Retreat is for you.

Outstanding vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 10, (youngest 15 months, oldest 85), found the White's beach house to be perfect in every way. The large kitchen/dining/living area kept all of us together but not crowded. Access to the beach was easy (no steps on beach access walkway) and the long pier allowed us to keep our 2 jetskis accessable all week long. The bedrooms were roomy and the beds very comfortable. Also, my family was impressed was the endless hot water which allowed everyone to shower quickly and gather for the next activity. We had a lovely meal on the back deck and the hot tub was used several times. This rental is unusual because of the kayaks, canoes and life jackets available for our use. Actually, the list of outstanding features of this house could go on and on but the fact that we immediately reserved another stay next summer shows how awesome we think this vacation rental is. We are all excited to know how wonderful next years vacation will be. Thank you, Bill and Sandra!

Wonderful house, close to the beach with great sound views!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect house for our Easter family gathering. The layout of the house is very warm and inviting and everything we needed to prepare our holiday dinner was there and easily found. Absolutely loved the kitchen area with butler pantry and the open floor plan! The location is ideal with beautiful sound views to watch the sunset each night and just a few steps across the street for a stroll on the beach!! The hot tub and kayaks were a real bonus to enjoy our beach time during the cooler spring temperatures. Thank you Sandra and Bill for welcoming our family to your wonderful beach home! It is truly a gem!

Perfect family reunion home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at Sound Retreat to celebrate Thanksgiving with our extended family. The home is well kept and stocked with supplies, linens and towels not often found in rentals. This gives it a very personal feeling. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms so everyone has room to spread out. Plus the great areas upstairs and downstairs keep the family together in the same room for great socializing. The home sits between the ocean and the sound so you don't have to walk far to enjoy either. The soundside has a pier and several kayaks and canoes to enjoy the water. The back deck is massive for relaxing in the evening to watch the sun set and the hot tub is a special treat -- especially on very cold nights! A wonderful time was had by all from ages 7 to 70!

A Jewel with the Best of Both Worlds-- Ocean and Sound!

  • 5 of 5

Bill and Sandra left no detail overlooked! Their lovely home far exceeded our expectations and literally had everything that we needed to relax and enjoy one of the best family vacations that we've had in years!

The location is amazing-- step out the back door and enjoy a large deck which includes a hot tub and comfortable outdoor seating while you take in the gorgeous sound view and kayak/fish from your private pier. The ocean can be seen from the front porch and we all loved sitting in the rockers and enjoying the ocean view with our morning coffee.

We had young and old, and there was something for everyone! The kids and young men liked having their own living space downstairs equipped with TV, games, refrigerator, books, etc. They found the fishing gear and crabbing cages, and so they spent much of the day on the pier. We had a large crab boil one night from all the crabs we caught in the sound. I enjoyed the kitchen--- wow, it had everything that we needed and I've never stayed in a rental so well-equipped! We had one adult with a shell fish allergy and were surprised to even find a set of EPI-pens in one of the drawers! Thankfully, we didn't have to use them.

Comfortable beds are a must for any stay, and we were not disappointed. All beds were very comfortable with quality bedding. The home was also decorated beautifully with so much loving care--- very cozy and so much character!

Thank you for sharing your home! We hope to return in a future year!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the White's home on North Topsail beach for 2 family vacations. The house is well appointed with plenty of room for our family. The White's have provided lots of recreational amenities in terms of kayaks, a canoe, paddle boards, etc. They are also extremely easy to deal with and I'm sure we would be friends if we lived in the area.

This is a great house. The kids never left the pier fishing , crabbing and kayaking. They did not want to go to the beach because they enjoyed the pier that much. The kitchen is large enough to accommodate 10 people cooking and eating together. The deck out back allowed us to see three different lightening storms off in the distance. Mother natures own fireworks. It creates a great family atmosphere.
