About the property

2 Bedroom & Studio. Sleeps 14. Best Location! Beaches, Shopping, scenic etc.

Hawaiian- Oriental Beach House at Kahalu'u National Historical District . Hawaiian Kings and Chiefs lived here because of the location!. They loved to Surf, fish, and grow amazing gardens. Kahalu'u Beach is only a 4 minute walk , and has the only Surfing Hei'au in the State of Hawaii, where the Hawaiians prayed to the God "Akua" for Surf. 2 minute drive to "Magic Sands Beach", best body surfing beach in Kona.

The Huge Lanai is both covered and open. Lounge chairs to catch the sun rays, or relax in the shade with your favorite book. The covered area has built in table along the front with chairs to enjoy the ocean views. A dining table, and a Koa Bar. Lanai couch and chairs for an open space living area.

The house opens up to this lanai, with original oriental shoji doors. The Sparkling Blue Ocean and Cool Breeze, just about comes thru the house. Its simply Amazing!

The main house has 2 bedrooms, sitting room, 2 baths. Private being its separate, being on each end, north and south of the house. Shoji doors for privacy. The separate Studio is located in the rear of the house. It has its own separate entry, and is included if 5 or more people are booked.,

Bed lay out as follows; The main house One queen bed, one king bed, sitting room one single bed. . Great room has a queen sofa sleeper, lounge sofa bed. .. Two baths in the main house.

The studio in the rear, 2 full beds, 1 Bunk (2 twin single bed mattress), and full bath, tub/shower.

In the rear of the house, there is an outdoor gas BBQ.

The premises is on a large lot, the home sits near the rear of the property. No homes block the picture perfect view of the OCEAN, sparkling blue ocean and coconut palm trees. Often times you will see Dolphins in front playing in the ocean.

Behind the house is an open field with large monkey pod trees with lots of singing birds. Some of the endangered birds live here, the Hawaiian Hoary Bats, and Hawaiian I'O hawk. Pheasants are often seen hanging out in the trees.

Often times you will see the full moon, and well as the amazing Sunsets at the same time.

We own the home next door! Great for large families, re unions, check out Hale O Makai, VRBO #49376 sleeps additional 10, total combined 20 people! The home combined is quite huge. .

Alii Drive is Kona's Ocean Scenic Route. You will love the location! The supermarket, and shopping center is only one mile from the house. Every Saturday there is a farmers market, where local produces, and home made products are sold. Cut flowers, baked goods, honey, jam, and crafts. . Its great to support our local businesses, and the supermarket KTA is also a local business of 100 years. Live entertainment happens once a month.

Guest love going to the beach at least twice a day. You don't have to worry about getting a parking space. As this beach is the most popular Snorkeling beach on the entire Island, in my opinion, the State. The ocean park is absolutely a playground in Paradise, fishes galore! Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen, and get your cameras ready for some amazing life time memories.

Why The Owner chose Keauhou

All about the Location, Love Kahalu'u Beach. My kids playground in the 1970's, we gathered here 5 days a week with friends. Our kids learned to swim and surf here, the weather is perfect. Fishes, turtles, and monk seals live here.

We loved it so much we purchased two home side by side for our Ohana. We now enjoy sharing our homes with visitors and hope they will enjoy this wonderful place on earth. We hope our guest experience wonderful memories.

What makes this house unique

The Ocean and Open Space connection to the Aina is amazing. There is now a movement to Protect Kahalu'u. Makai was once destroyed by development and bulldozed. The Keauhou Beach hotel is now being demolished by Kamehameha School. This will be a Cultural learning center, located directly next to Kahalu'u Beach. This is such a special place, the" National and State Historic Kahalu'u District."

We support and strive to protect our Cultural and Natural Resources for the Now and Future Generation. To be connected is a Blessing.

Great location and amazing lanai

  • 4 of 5

Loved the house. The location was perfect. We could have sat on the lanai for hours at a time. The back house had quite a bit of ants and bugs, but that is to be expected on the big island. Would definitely stay again!

Beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here 9 days (fam of 5 with an 11, 9 & 7 yrs old) and had a wonderful time. The house is at walking distance of perfect snorkeling beach and a somewhat longer walk (took the car) of Magic sands beach (white sandy "brochure beach"). spotted turtles, nemo's and numerous other beautiful fish, oh, and a Monta Ray!! A short drive (5 minutes) and you're at the spot with restaurants, bars etc of Kona. We used the house as a base for all the stuff we did all over the island (the 7 wonders of the Big island) and it was a perfect place to come back to.

I don't think it says it in the description but Simmy, the owner, thought of everything. there are body boards (4), a surfboard, snorkel gear (6), riff shoes, buckets & spades etc. Everything you need!!

We will certainly come back, already looking for x-mass :-)

This was a favorite with our family!

  • 5 of 5

We all loved staying at Simmy's place! The view from the patio is beautiful and quiet. The location is perfect for both beaches (surfing and snorkling at one beach, boogie boarding at the other beach). We were able to enjoy many half-day excursions form the home and come back to a comfortable, homey retreat with wifi, full kitchen, all the beach toys, and plenty of room to spread out. Great for kids of all ages (crib to independent teens). We really liked the short drive to the shopping center (1 mile) that had everything: fresh and big selection of food, huge drug store, cinema, restaurants, urgent care, etc... Simmy was very kind and helpful getting us settled in. We recommend surf lessons with Wes at Kona Town Surf Adventures, a 5 minute walk from the house, good with adults and kids and nice to talk with between catching waves :0) So many parks and things to see/do from this house, next time we will stay longer here here and just drive a little farther to other excursions north and east instead of packing up and moving to those locations. Everything worked great here too, big clean fridge, lots of fans, great breeze, dishwasher and washer/dryer too!

perfect place to enjoy a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful, and the location is great. We had 6 people of 3 generations there, and we enjoyed the large lanai with a beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean. Watched the sunset almost every evening. The interior is lovely wood floors and an "old Hawaiian" feel. The house is less than half a mile from the Kahalu'u Beach, which has great snorkling and good beginner surfing. Other beaches are nearby. The house has beach chairs, umbrellas, boogy boards, etc for use on the beach. It gets cool breezes so that you never need AC. It's about 4 miles from the main town--just far enough to avoid the most touristy sections except when you want to be there. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

Kahaluu snorkel Beach, only a 4 minute walk

Kahalu'u is a Historical Preservation District. Hawaiian High Chiefs and Kings were born in Kahalu'u. They lived here for all its beauty and because it was close one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii, Kahalu'u. There was plenty of fishes and still does. And also Surf in our protected bay. Kahalu'u beach park is 4.2 acre opened in 1953. It has fishponds, bathing ponds, and popular is the shallow, calm water, which teems with tame, colorful reef fish, coral head, and turtles. The Kohala Center sponsors the Reef Teach program, in which volunteers educate visitors about the marine life and water quality in order to minimize damage to the natural resources . There is still standing the ancient Surf Heiau, where they often prayed for waves. Its a very special place, and you will be amazed. We are located on the race courses of the 'Ironman Triathlon World Championship', and the Lavaman races. Our location is key, numerous beach parks are all within 10 miles, including White Sands, Pahoehoe County park, Honokohau Harbor, Old Airport has an Olympic swimming pool. gymnasium, football and soccer fields, a skateboard facility, ball fields, and community center.
