Property description

When world renowned folk artist Alice Moseley, first laid eyes on 214 Bookter Street, it was love at first sight. She walked toward the front of the house, and, sitting on the top step of the porch, the 80 year old sat there quietly for a few minutes, took a long look at the depot and the live oaks across the street, and then began writing the check for her down payment.
Come and sit a spell on Miss Alice's front porch. The rockers are waiting for you, as are the flowers, oak trees, birds, butterflies and squirrels. The Gulf of Mexico is a block and a half away, and there's almost always a gentle salty breeze blowing.
The Blue House is 133 years old. The walls are made of beaded board, and the floor is beautiful golden 'heart of pine.' The dining area looks out over the grounds, and the kitchen is stocked with all the utensils and appliances you desire. There is even a gas bbq grill in the garden. The washer and dryer are in a separate utility building. The house is a 'shotgun house', meaning that all rooms open into each other. Right off the kitchen is the first bedroom, with a wonderful full size bed (the bed is antique, but the mattress is a comfy pillowtop.) There is plenty of closet and drawer space if you need it, and books and magazines to while away the time.
Next room is the second bedroom, with yet another beautiful full bed..and yes, another pillowtop mattress! Both beds have brightly colored quilts, and line dried freshly ironed linens. The bathroom is right off the second bathtub, but a large shower with a double seat in it.
The living room is truly lovely. There are tall windows looking out at the oak trees across the street, and a glass door looking out into the gardens. You can watch tv, use the WiFI, listen to music, read, or just BE. There is an extremely comfortable sofa bed, as well as arm chairs and a rocker.
The house is filled with Miss Alice's artwork, as well as other paintings and antiques from her private collection.
It's kind of magical to sit in the rocking chairs and can hear Miss Alice's windchimes, the birds chirping, and the breezes blowing. You'll probably catch a glimpse of Tailor the lizard, while watching the hummingbirds pick and choose their flowers You can take a short walk across the park to the duck pond, where you can meet the three geese Curly, Larry and Moe, as well as their ducky friends. They are always looking for a handout, and you can sit on the swing under the oak tree and watch the goings on at the pond. Also right across from the Blue House is the Alice Moseley Folk Art & Antique Museum, housed on the second floor of the historic Bay St. Louis Train Depot. Your stay at Miss Alice's Blue House includes a special tour of the Museum.
Naturally there are other things going on in Bay St Louis! We have the Gulf, wonderful little shops in Old Town (about 4 blocks from the House); many restaurants ranging from steaks, to seafood, to poboys to paninis. Walk to Main Street where you can rent bicycles as well as kayaks. There is a seawall where you can take a stroll with the Gulf as eye can even take the footpath over the beautiful Bay amazing trek, especially at sunrise or sunset.
There is a Little Theatre in town, a kids waterpark, goofy golf course, and Buccaneer State Park boasts a great disc golf course. Buccaneer has an amazing Wave Pool with day and evening hours.
There are 2 casinos, one of which has a beautiful Arnold Palmer designed golf course. New Orleans is an hour away..great for a day trip!
The memories of your stay will last forever, this I promise you!

Owner info

Year Purchased: 1989

About the owner: My name is Tim Moseley and I am a retired marriage and family therapist and antique dealer and collector and I am dedicated to making sure that the Alice Moseley Folk Art and Antique Museum will be around and doing good in the community for many years in the future.

Why the Owner Chose Bay Saint Louis, MS, USA:
I just went along with what my mama told me to do, but have to acknowledge that, in this instance at least, mom knew best. The house is listed on the national register of historic homes.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The blue house is almost 135 years old, and all the walls are not exactly straight but decorated with antiques and warm heart of pine wood floors. Everyone who visits here feels like they are back at the old home place.
