About Leslie Korn

I am a professor and a psychologist and my husband is a professor in International Relations. I have lived in and around PV for over 40 years.

Leslie Korn purchased this house in 2007

Why Leslie Korn chose Hotel Zone

Much sought after gated community. Central to everything the city has to offer . It is an easy 5-10 minutes to the beaches, 7 minutes to the mall, sushi and cinemas, 15 -20 minutes to downtown by taxi, 30 minutes to Bucerias and 30 minutes to Nuevo Vallarta.

What makes this house unique

Great place for a couple or friends or family with children. It is quiet and comfortable, in this gated community of 80% working Mexican professionals. I walk at midnight under the moon and palms. The pool is often empty during the day. It is 10 minutes to Pitillal and fresh tamales and coconut atole with dancing in the square in Saturday nights. You have the best of all worlds here and access to old and new Mexico. This is not a "touristy" location .

Great time at Casa Tumi

  • 5 of 5

5-star all around! The hosts were incredibly helpful before, during, and even after our stay. There were no issues to resolve, really, but when I mentioned a somewhat slow internet connection, literally, the next day we had the brand new ISP and the cable all installed. Not that we had too much time to watch TV:) Great place, great owners, great memories. Highly recommend to anyone and definitely coming back for more! Thank you, Leslie!

Reasonable place to stay if you are looking at it as a place to sleep

  • 4 of 5

We stayed from February 2 - 12, 2017. It is a beautiful, clean house and we all felt safe and secure in the house. There were some negatives: barking dogs, a pool pass that had not been activated, 1 pot with no lid and two fry pans and we had difficulty getting the microwave to work properly. With the exception of the barking dogs, Leslie's husband quickly resolved the problem of lack of pots (4 females in the house want to cook a meal or two) and gave us his activated pool pass. We looked at the house mainly as a place to sleep and spent most of our time visiting different areas of Puerto Vallarta. The nearby market was easily accessible by foot as was the Walmart further up the street. Having a good command of Spanish (or knowing someone who does) will make staying here easier to acclimatize to. Buses ran frequently outside Las Moras complex and we used taxis if the bus option was not practical. We never felt the need or desire for a rental vehicle.

Owner's Response: So glad you finally had your first trip to Mexico Nancy. Thank you for your review. yes we pride ourselves on a spotlessly clean home. I think you forgot read the house manual which states the pool is closed for cleaning Mondays until 4 pm. The pool key worked it just doesn't during pool cleaning. We were happy to provide you with additional pots and pans for your cooking class.

Average, large but not convenient to beaches or activities

  • 3 of 5

Large, plenty of beds and bedrooms for the money, plenty of taxis about a half mile walk away, or you can call to come to the house. Not super convenient to activities, and the nearest beaches ~ 2 miles away, are closed to the public since they're hotel owned. Accessible beaches are at least a 40 min walk according to google maps. Downtown is approximately a 30-40 min taxi.

The good:

- decent price

- nice welcome basket of fruit, nuts, coffee, and a big jug of drinking water

- Air conditioning if you need it

- fully outfitted kitchen

- plenty of bedrooms and beds

The not so good:

- location not very convenient to activities, beaches, or restaurants

- strong diesel fuel smell that persisted in one area of the apartment for the entire stay, in master bedroom

- floors weren't clean when we arrived, but cleaned afterward, and lots of unsightly mold/mildew on a large portion of the back patio

- plenty of loud dogs barking from neighbors but not too much at night

- townhome has no sun exposure unless you go out to the street

- TV was inconvenient being upstairs rather than in the living room

- water flow in showers very low, one shower drain was clogged and water wasn't hot in one bathroom

Less convenient than anticipated, could be better kept up, if I returned to this complex I would rent a car.

Owner's Response: Alex, It is true that this gated community of 400 people is a 5 minute walk to the taxis and that one is paying only 125. a night to rent a 2000 square foot home because it is exactly 1.7 miles to the beach instead of paying 1000.00 a night for an equivalent home on the waterfront. We are 15 minutes to downtown, though up to 20 with traffic. When we spoke I did advise you of the specific location and we have google mapped the home. In 10 years no one has complained about this much sought after locale. The house was spotless when you entered it but you may not have noticed when your children tracked in the dirt upon your arrival. Whatever problems you found (clogged drain and varnish smell from recently purchased night stands) we addressed within a few hours of your request. The TV is in the TV room; here, the houses are designed to use that lovely large upstairs salon with large couch and chairs. Water flow in Mexico is often not the same as in the US. But that is the nature of traveling to a new country. The outdoor patio is bleached and pressure washed monthly. What you thought was mold is actually the coloring of multicolored stonework. We were disappointed that you chose to smoke cigarettes in the house which is against the written house rules. In spite of this, we did return your full security deposit and gave you a positive review as we know traveling to a new country with children can be stressful.

Las Moras Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful time at Casa Tumi during our 30 day stay there. We started out with just the two of us. There was certainly more than enough space for us, with a very adequate and clean kitchen and dining area. When we were joined by another couple we had invited we still had plenty of room. We also managed to host a third couple for a part of our stay without feeling particularly cramped. We really enjoyed being a part of the Las Moras community, and felt very secure there. The shared pool, a short walk away, is a wonderful facility where we were able to relate to other vacationers as well as local residents. We were happy to be away from a busy street, and found the home to be a quiet place to relax in spite of the fact that the quiet was sometimes interrupted by the sound of dogs barking. The owner was very prompt in responding to our emails, and provided answers to our questions.

Owner's Response: We so enjoyed having you stay at our home and are thrilled at your enjoyment. I checked with our neighbors as we never hear dogs and it turned out that she was caring for her sisters dog who was a "barker" and got their little pooch barking also. I was just there for a week and the only noise we heard is the swaying of the palms... Hope you can join us again at Las Moras...

Our Puerto Vallarta adventure

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful home in Las Moras. This was our first adventure in renting a home from VRBO and it turned out wonderful. The home is comfortable and quiet nestled in a very secure neighborhood. Although it was just my wife and I this trip, the home is set up for a family and we hope to visit again with some of our family. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds and pool and often ventured out to the local Aramana Market to purchase fresh fruit, seafood or meal at one of the local food stands. We were not disappointed in any aspect of our trip. We were able to walk or use the bus or taxi system to get anywhere we wanted to go. We found that we did a lot of walking and always felt safe. We quickly learned how to navigate the bus system. At 6.5 pesos you could go anywhere in town. We felt that we saw a lot more of Puerto Vallarta staying here than we would have if we had stayed in a hotel. We appreciated having wifi so we could send pictures home and keep track of work.

Everything the owners say it is and more!!

  • 5 of 5

We love staying at this beautiful home in the Las Moras community in Puerto Vallarta. Each year, it seems, there are more and more amenities at the home and in the area. We feel absolutely secure here. Children play, even leaving their bicycles and toys unlocked outside. Everyone is very friendly. The common areas are superbly cared for and the pool is divine. "Tranquilo" is the Spanish word that comes to mind. We always slept with windows open and noise was never an issue. We've stayed for two weeks in the past but next year hope to come for a month. The home itself is completely comfortable, with plenty of living space inside and out. The location is excellent. We didn't rent a car this time but walked easily to the local market and bigger grocery stores. The recommendations for "in home massage" and the fitness centre turned out to be a perfect match for us. Local busses or a cab quickly got us to the centre of town or out to one of the other towns. We always had plenty to do, great places to eat, and lots of time to relax. This year we had some work to do. Sitting outside on the patio, fully wirelessly connected, led to some terrific photos to send home to the rainy Pacific Northwest, with titles like, "excellent working conditions." Oh and then there's the ocean. Ahhhhh. Can't wait to return.

This property is set on dozens of acres within the city with lovely garden walking paths which ensure security, quiet yet being centrally located. This is an ideal setting for a family visit or a place for friends and is central to both tourist activities but also cultural settings and 'old' Mexico. The location is perfect for accessing every type of activity. This is a residential professional Mexican neighborhood with a smattering of expats. This is not a tourist location.
