About Philip Roberts

Hello, My name is Philip Roberts. My Grandparents purchased this property in 1927 as a residence where they had a small farm and ran the C&H Mining Waterworks which provided city water for Calumet and surrounding area.

Philip Roberts purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Philip Roberts chose Upper Peninsula

The Roberts family has enjoyed this beach property for three generations. We built the cottage in 1999 to share this special place with visitors from all corners of the world.

What makes this cottage unique

Running along side of the cottage is a small babbling trout stream that opens up to the lake on the beach. On the beach you can enjoy a camp fire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, swim the Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish till the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out your front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I am having a very hard time tearing myself away from this sanctuary. We have had a great time here, walking the beach, journeying out for little adventures exploring the peninsula, talking with the wonderful people in Calumet and all along our paths - then being able to come "home" to our cozy cabin. The boys Winslow and Bradley, have been in heaven being able to run the beach and do their own ground level exploring. Thank you for welcoming them (they loved the biscuits you left for them) When I come back next year (at least I hope to) this place will be where I want to be.

Wonderful small cottage

  • 5 of 5

I really hate to write this review because this cottage should be kept a secret for Those Who Know. It sits on the shore, with good views of the lake from inside and outside, a path to the beach, and miles of beach to walk on. My dogs loved it. Very quiet resort surrounded by woods with three other cabins, but no noise from them because nothing is close together. There is a small, burbling creek that runs beside the cottage. A nice front porch. The cottage itself is charmingly decorated and really comfortable. Philip is a great host and quick to help or to try to supply anything needed. I am a repeat renter, a many-years renter on the Keweenaw, and this is one of the nicest, most secluded, most beach-accessible places I've ever stayed. I'm returning, hopefully for many years.

Lovely quiet place to stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time in Calumet. Phillip is a wonderful resource for local historical places to visit and to eat. The beach is rocky but remote and beautiful. We traveled all over the Keewanaw Peninsula using this cabin as our home base which is very convenient. It involved driving a lot, but so worth the drive and the scenery is gorgeous.

Comfortable cottage in superb location

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and comfortable cottage at the end of a road, next to a brook and steps from an isolated beach. Although the northern lights barely showed this time, the weather cooperated and this was a great base for us to explore the Keeweenaw Peninsula, and to spend a few days in splendid isolation.

Philip, the owner, greeted us warmly, provided info about the area and was immediately responsive.

Bottom line ... we intend to return!

A Bit Of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

The most beautiful spot!! The cabin was beyond what one might expect. Everything was so clean and cozy. The owner could not be more friendly and helpful. There is a babbling brook next to the cabin we had and it was so very peaceful. A perfect view of the great Lake Superior!! I did not want to leave and would love to go back for a week or two. Thank you, Phil, for a perfect stay.
