About Philip Roberts

Hello, My name is Philip Roberts. My Grandparents purchased this property in 1927 as a residence where they had a small farm and ran the C&H Mining Waterworks which provided city water for Calumet and surrounding area.

Philip Roberts purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Philip Roberts chose Calumet

The Roberts family has enjoyed this beach property for three generations. We built the cottage in 1999 to share this special place with visitors from all corners of the world.

What makes this cottage unique

Running along side of the cottage is a small babbling trout stream that opens up to the lake on the beach. On the beach you can enjoy a camp fire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, swim the Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish till the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out your front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I am having a very hard time tearing myself away from this sanctuary. We have had a great time here, walking the beach, journeying out for little adventures exploring the peninsula, talking with the wonderful people in Calumet and all along our paths - then being able to come "home" to our cozy cabin. The boys Winslow and Bradley, have been in heaven being able to run the beach and do their own ground level exploring. Thank you for welcoming them (they loved the biscuits you left for them) When I come back next year (at least I hope to) this place will be where I want to be.

Northern perfection

Everything I love about the North country, superior waters, forest, yooper hospitality, eagles flying, cozy cottage, jumping from the sauna to the freezing lake, playing music by the brook. The only bad thing is leaving...

Charming cottage. Plenty of towels. The view from the porch is spectacular. A nice property and a short walk to the lake. Host provided a nice gift basket with coffee, water, granola bars. Also a vase of fresh flowers. Close to town and surrounding attractions. I will be back.

This Place is totally awesome!

Ron, Harry the corgi dog, and I visited Lake Superior Beach Cottage run by Philip Roberts. Everything was neat and clean. Lots of towels - loved the coffee and other things left in our welcome basket. The kitchen had everything including a slow cooker. WOW! I can't complain about anything. Ok maybe one thing. I sure hope the bears can't open the garbage containers because we couldn't either. We chuckled on that - lots of humph to get it open. Loved the beach area and Ron loved looking for rocks. Harry even took a dip - Thank you Philip for everything. We plan to be back in the winter.
