Experience the authenticity of Mammaw and Pappaw Darnell’s home place ½ miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the street from the Raccoon Holler Campground lake. The beautiful lake is right in front of the home place. Used to about 5 years ago, there was no water or bathroom in this cabin. After Mammaw passed away, it was our dream to restore the home and leave the rooms as Mammaw had them in order to share the love of the cabin with others. Now complete with granite counter tops, hardwood floors, and whirlpool tub with it has all the modern day luxuries. You will really enjoy your time here – two bedrooms (i.e., three full beds as two are upstairs in one room), full bathtub, separate shower, washer dryer, dishwasher microwave, hardwood floors, natural beams etched with pine hardwood to provide the rustic cabin feel yet with the modern day appliances of comfort including flat screen cable television.
Sit on the front porch and look at the lake, view the lake from the kitchen, living room and upstairs bedroom. This home place offers authenticity and comfort. Convenient to Jefferson and West Jefferson, 22 miles out the Blue Ridge Parkway to Boone and a mile from the famous Northwest Trading Post, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 miles from Wilkesboro, come home to Raccoon Holler.
I experienced complete love and acceptance when I visited my Mammaws and papaw here as a young boy. The two of them were amazing. Up the line was a spring where papaw went to get water. Down the line, lol, was an outhouse. When I stayed they wanted me to eat and rest and sleep and to this day in the courses I teach at UCF in Orlando to bachelors, masters, and doctoral students, I share about the RACCOON Holler Ritz Carlton experience I felt when spending time there. I wanted their legacy to live on so restore the cabin after they passed in hopes that those that came experienced a similar peace, love, and tranquility that I did when I was there. I hope you do. Currently, I am writing a childhood memoir entitled, Growing Up On Raccoon Holler. When finished, I will place a copy in the cabin. Thank all of you for reading and have a wonderful stay.

My husband and I ditched the traditional family Thanksgiving and took a mini vacation of our own. We stayed for two nights and it was great! The cabin was very cute and cozy. There was plenty of room for more people, but we enjoyed having it to ourselves. It's close enough to Boone, Blowing Rock, and Linville for day trips. The cabin was pretty clean, especially the bathroom and kitchen. And the bed in the master bedroom was SUPER comfortable. The Cabin came equipped with all the fixings of home (even candles!) The lake view was phenomenal! We wish we could have stayed longer, but we hope to book it for Thanksgiving next year!
My husband, myself, & our three children spent 6 nights here for our 2015 Christmas vacation. It was hands down the best Christmas ever! The cabin made it perfect! It was very clean, cozy, & just beautiful. My kids loved the staircase & the upstairs loft. From the kitchen to the bathroom to the laundry room, it has everything u need! We loved it so much, we tried to book it again this year...but didn't get to it in time. :( The price was awesome, just what we needed....so we could still afford Christmas gifts for three kids! Lol :) We brought a tree & the kids were so excited to celebrate Christmas in the mountains. It was very private & peaceful, couldn't have asked for a more perfect place. :)
My husband and I wanted to visit the mountains to see the leaves change and we arrived at the perfect time! The cabin is a nice size with a well stocked kitchen, conveniently located to Jefferson and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view of the lake was lovely to look at, especially in the morning. Our only complaints were that the master bed was a little uncomfortable, we couldn't get the fireplace to work and the previous people that stayed right before us left towels in the wash.
Had a great time and would go back there again. The only negatives for us was only one bathroom and the ice maker did not work. The owners were very nice
We rented this mountain cabin for 2 wonderful months. We lived 5 miles from this cabin for 15 years prior to moving back to Florida 6 years ago, so it was wonderful to be able to come back for an extended stay. (For the past 5 years we have stayed in our motor home at Raccoon Holler Campground which is located across the road). The view of the campground's lake from the front porch is absolutely amazing, especially the sunsets. The cabin is well equipped with everything to make staying a pleasure. The owner, Denver (and his mother and sister) was very quick to respond to calls and texts if there was a need. For those new to the area, there are lots of places to visit, scenic drives on the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, canoeing and tubing, hiking, and good restaurants. We will be back next year!!
We just got back from our trip to this cabin. It was wonderful. The area is beautiful, the cabin was clean, and the price was awesome. The owner was VERY easy to communicate with. Prior to purchase, I texted him and he was quick to respond. There is a beautiful lake and a small park across the street from the cabin. My two kids played at the park and had a great time. They also got to catch fireflies in the front yard of the cabin. We had a great time and I would definitely come back!
This is a easy to get on and get off from Blue ridge parkway.
