Beautiful Cabin in the Heart of Blue Ridge Parkway

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Experience the authenticity of Mammaw and Pappaw Darnell’s home place ½ miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the street from the Raccoon Holler Campground lake. The beautiful lake is right in front of the home place. Used to about 5 years ago, there was no water or bathroom in this cabin. After Mammaw passed away, it was our dream to restore the home and leave the rooms as Mammaw had them in order to share the love of the cabin with others. Now complete with granite counter tops, hardwood floors, and whirlpool tub with it has all the modern day luxuries. You will really enjoy your time here – two bedrooms (i.e., three full beds as two are upstairs in one room), full bathtub, separate shower, washer dryer, dishwasher microwave, hardwood floors, natural beams etched with pine hardwood to provide the rustic cabin feel yet with the modern day appliances of comfort including flat screen cable television.

Sit on the front porch and look at the lake, view the lake from the kitchen, living room and upstairs bedroom. This home place offers authenticity and comfort. Convenient to Jefferson and West Jefferson, 22 miles out the Blue Ridge Parkway to Boone and a mile from the famous Northwest Trading Post, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 miles from Wilkesboro, come home to Raccoon Holler.

About Denver Severt

I experienced complete love and acceptance when I visited my Mammaws and papaw here as a young boy. The two of them were amazing. Up the line was a spring where papaw went to get water. Down the line, lol, was an outhouse. When I stayed they wanted me to eat and rest and sleep and to this day in the courses I teach at UCF in Orlando to bachelors, masters, and doctoral students, I share about the RACCOON Holler Ritz Carlton experience I felt when spending time there. I wanted their legacy to live on so restore the cabin after they passed in hopes that those that came experienced a similar peace, love, and tranquility that I did when I was there. I hope you do. Currently, I am writing a childhood memoir entitled, Growing Up On Raccoon Holler. When finished, I will place a copy in the cabin. Thank all of you for reading and have a wonderful stay.

Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

If you were like me and figured there must be something wrong with a home with such an inexpensive price, I assure you this cabin is indeed awesome. The location is great and easy to find: right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, next road north of The Trading Post, then the very first house. The view of the lake is so beautiful, and can be seen from most of the rooms in the cabin. The yard is great size and very flat for dogs or children to play. The kitchen is gorgeous and large, it was a pleasure to cook in it. The cookware was very high end, Pampered Chef, T-fal, and Emerald and a very nice gas stove and dishwasher. There are plenty of restaurants close by, a little simple grill in Glendale Springs behind the Church of the Fresco on the road beside The Trading Post and Mountain Aire Steak and Seafood on HWY 16. If you are wondering why there is no cleaning fee listed. It is optional and very reasonable, $50 cash or you can clean it yourself. The owners mother is the caretaker and is local and easy to call if you need anything during your stay. If you have any questions the owner is very quick to respond. The bed sizes were a little confusing in the description. The master is a queen and the upstairs beds are double. And if you are like me and toss and turn a lot and end up sleeping on the couch, it is full size (hard to see in pic) and is very comfortable for sitting, sleeping and napping. We had a lovely time on our trip celebrating my sons engagement with his new finance', on our first family of four trip. The best part of our trip was this cabin, the family meals and games in this dining room. I love that the owner has remodeled (and very nicely done) his grandparents home for he and his family to enjoy and invites us to enjoy it too. I loved seeing the memories on display in the dining room. It feels more like staying at a loved ones home than a home just renovated/built for property income. We would love to stay here again soon. We often travel with my somewhat disabled father in law and for travelers with someone limited mobility this house would work well. The main floor has a large master suite, large bathroom and plenty of room to move around in the cabin, and only a couple of steps to the front porch, yard is mostly level and the only problems on the main floor would be slightly sloping kitchen floors and you might want to bring your shower bench. We have stayed at many cabins and this is one is definitely in the top few!

Great Location and Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin was better than we expected. There was plenty of room in the cabin and yard. Great family friendly place and my son live the playground by the lake. The breeze is amazing in the spring to give you a real comfy feel to relax. Lots to do in the surrounding area and right on the blue ridge trail.
