Whether you are interested in birding, boating, fishing or simply watching the sun set, The Sunset Bay Escape has it! The Sunset Bay Escape is a 7 bedroom house located on Port Bay near Rockport, Texas. Port Bay is a back bay off of Copano Bay in the Texas Coast with EXCELLENT fishing. We have caught over 40 fish in one evening off the fishing pier.

This house is not a canal home but a BAY home and fully equipped with EVERYTHING you might need for your stay. You need only bring you self, food and clothes. We provide everything else including all linens, towels, pans, dishes, etc. There are not 5 cups, glasses and plates here. There is PLENTY of good plate, pans and utensils. If something necessary is missing, let us know.

We are KID and PET FRIENDLY!!! We have 5 kids of our own and have tried to include all the things to keep the kids entertained.

When you are at The Sunset Bay Escape, if feels like you are a million miles from civilization, but you are only 8 minutes to a Super Walmart! You drive through a lot of ranch land and then, suddenly, you emerge in a Jewel of a place on a wonderful, isolated bay.

The Sunset Bay Escape is a luxurious three story house that has two full kitchens - one upstairs and one downstairs! It has a large Master Suite upstairs with an oversized tiled shower and large Jacuzzi tub. There are four bedrooms on the second floor with two being Masters and two more bedrooms on the ground floor. Enjoy our Five Large Flat-Screen TV’s and three Blu-Ray DVD players using our collection of DVDs. There is even a PS2 game system with games for the kids (or young at heart) to play. For the little ones, we have a play set out back.

Right out the back door is Port Bay and your own 300 foot lighted pier with direct access to the water. Port Bay is full of redfish, shark, trout, flounder, gafftops, whiting, croakers, sheepheads and drum. There is no commercial fishing in the Bay so fishing is GOOD! Kayaks/rafts and basic fishing gear provided as well as bright fishing lights on the pier. Don't forget to look for the dolphins!

Bring your boat! There is a boat launch very close by, and you can tie it up to our pier. Also, with your boat, you have easy access to Copano Bay, considered by all to have some of the best fishing on the Texas Coast! We now have a 18 ft. wide driveway so you can park on one side of the drive way and still get in and out on the other sire AND to accommodate larger vehicles and boats.

For the wildlife enthusiast, there is an abundance of wildlife in the area. You can see deer, raccoon, possum, turkey, rabbit and other wild animals.

For the birding enthusiast, this area is teaming with a large variety of bird species including Black-necked Stilts, Ibis, Rosette Spoonbills, Reddish Egrets, Gull and Tern species, Least Turns, Rails and Snipe, wintering Geese, Sandhill Cranes and White-tailed Hawks. You might even see endangered Pereghrine Falcons, Wood Storks or Brown Pelicans. There are a number of birding sites within a few miles of the house.

Rockport is a short drive away with a sandy beach, museums, shopping, and antiques. Port Aransas is also close by for a good day trip to the Gulf of Mexico.

Unfortunately, we do not allow 'Events' such as weddings or other large parties. Gatherings at the house are strictly limited to those guests staying at the house.

The Sunset Bay Escape is a Family Friendly location. No corporate retreats or other such gatherings allowed. We only allow Family Gatherings. All persons must be related by blood, marriage or other family connection as required by our HOA Rules.

About Beverly Raub Tompary

Timothy & Rosa Raub have five children and three grand children (as well as a wonderful son-in-law and daughter-in-law!). We live nearby on the Texas coast. Tim has a full time job and Rosa is the one who takes care of most of the property issues. You will also hear from our daughter, Beverly, a stay-at-home mom. You are not dealing with a big property management company but, rather, the actual owners. The Sunset Bay Escape is our house. We stay there every chance we get. We have equipped it the way we want it for our enjoyment and want you to enjoy it as much as we do!

Beverly Raub Tompary purchased this house in 2012

Why Beverly Raub Tompary chose Rockport

The Sunset Bay Escape is in a GEM of a location. The location near Rockport, Texas is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest places on the Texas Coast for getting away from it all. No Big Hotels, no houses squeezed together on top of one another. Water out the back door and pasture land out the front door. No street lights at night. Enjoy gazing at the stars in this unique location.

What makes this house unique

One of the great things about the Sunset Bay Escape is that the closest neighbor is several hundred yards away. The house is quite isolated and even located on a cul-de-sac road. We are definitely off the beaten path and away from it all yet about 8 minutes from a Super Wal Mart!

Nice Place

  • 4 of 5

The house is gorgeous and there is plenty of room. It was a crazy busy weekend for us, and we didn't really get much relaxing time. The rooms are very nice and it was very clean. There is a sign that clearly states "don't put anything but TP in the toilets". We had only 15 people there, and they were all 14 and up, and we all adhered to the request. However, the toilet in the downstairs bathroom backed up, and icky water even started backing up into the tub. This was not a good thing on a Saturday when we had a wedding reception to get ready for. I was in touch immediately with the contacts, and a plumber was called immediately. The problem was, it was a few hours before anyone showed up. My family was all in town from Illinois and everyone had to get ready, and wanted to take in downtown, see the new rebuilds for my sister-in-law's places, and head to a reception. Well, they all got to go do those things while I sat around waiting for a plumber.... Plumber finally showed and fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. Said the problem could be fixed with some repiping. If this happens with only 15 people, 25 people could cause a nightmare. So, my family ended up having to take shifts showering at a house my parents rented so we could all be ready for the party on time. That was a bummer.

Suggestions: more washcloths, we had to go out and buy some!

: more kitchen towels, only 2 and lots going on in there, we bought some

: add a pizza cutter to the kitchen

: look into the pipe situation, according to the plumbers, can be better prevented

We also couldn't make the lights work out back, but because we really weren't there for fishing, we didn't complain about that.

Gorgeous place. Out away from other places, so you won't be bothered and you can sit out back all night and laugh and talk and play games with 15 people and no one will complain about the noise!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the Four Star Review! I'd like to address a couple of things. Just so you know, 90% of the entire house had to be gutted to the studs and subfloor. Almost EVERYTHING in the house had to be replaced. I guess we missed the pizza cutter! At the very beginning of our guide book we say, "We have equipped the house as if we were staying there – Please treat it as if it belonged to you. Also, PLEASE let us know if anything is lacking or needs repaired. We try to keep this place in “Tip Top” shape and need a “heads up” if anything needs attention!" We know that things are going to happen and items disappear. We live only a few miles away and are very responsive to any needs of our guests. Hard to believe that just a couple months after restocking after Hurricane Harvey things are already missing. Next time, please let us know so we can take care of things right away. We will bring you the items or reimburse for the purchase. Regarding the plumbing, this was on a weekend, we called a plumber right away and paid him $400 for 15 minutes of work. The house is on a septic and unfortunately, not a lot that can be done if people don't follow the rules. Even things marked "Flushable" can't be on a septic. We had the entire septic system checked after the hurricane and before putting the house out to rent. That was only two months before the rental. Certainly not your group, but someone put junk down the toilet that got caught and caused a clog. This was not a situation where things had been accumulating over a long period of time in the pipes. Frankly, the plumber is just trying to sell us an expensive re-rout on a five year old house. We have already addressed the lights. there was a short that tripped the GFI. I could have swore we put a Pizza Cutter there. Take care and thanks again for the review!

5 Stars!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment you see the home off in the distance and you drive down the estate like driveway, to when you open the front doors to a beautiful and private view, you are in complete awe. The owners have considered all to make your stay wonderful and relaxing. It is located in a private community that is very peaceful and relaxing and is only a few minutes drive into the town of Rockport. Great for quiet getaways and definitely large enough to accommodate memorable family gatherings.

We just returned from a wonderful family centric 3 night stay at Sunset Bay Escape...wished we had booked a few more! We had expected a group of 13 with a couple of dogs in tow, but due to unfortunate events, four members of our party were not able to attend, if they had, this home would have easily and comfortably accommodated them. Sunset Bay Escape is well laid out and gave everyone plenty of private space while providing several common areas for us to enjoy each others company. Two balconies and a covered rear porch provided awesome viewing for sunrise or sunsets over Port Bay, for watching the family fish from the lighted pier, or just enjoying the quiet low traffic seclusion of the location. Our entire group agreed that the mattresses were 'unusually' comfortable and the quality of the bedding was well beyond what we have experienced in other rental properties. We loved how private the home encroachment by neighbors, loud parties next door, or street allowed all of us to truly relax and focus on our time together. For those of you that are either casual or serious fisherman, you will love the convenience of the private pier and the several Kayak launches surrounding Port Bay (including the back yard). Live bait stands are no more than 10-15 minutes away in either Arkansas Pass or Rockport Harbor....they stay open fairly late, so you can pick some up after enjoying the fantastic blackened shrimp taco's at Redfish Willies. The fishing for us produced steady catches of Speckled Trout, Redfish, Black Drum and a few large Perch...including a 25" Redfish, 23" Trout (that's large folks), two keeper Black Drum, and 8 legal blue crab - all of which are now either in our belly's or safe at home in our freezer. Fantastic trip, fantastic location, fantastic accommodations, and Beverly Raub Tompary was responsive, flexible, and fantastic to work with. Thanks so much for everything, we will definitely be back!

Loved it.. awesome views and great fishing.. caught my biggest Redfish ever!!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home with lots of space for my family..

We had good luck on Speckled Trout right from the pier.. seemed like the water was teaming with bait!

The location is a little isolated but that is what we were after.

The only issue we had was the fire ants if ANY edible object was left in the grass or on the deck.. and the mosquitoes, but its coastal Texas so what are you gonna do..

My kids had fun, we caught 23 blue crabs using the provided traps, and I caught my biggest Redfish to date..

Hope to visit again very soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words! Sadly, with the isolated location, bugs are going to happen. We have the house sprayed on a very regular basis and also have the yard sprayed with a special mosquito service all the time. Maybe it's the heat and that fact that we had almost no winter, but they seem a bit worse this year. Anyway, hope they won't keep you from coming back!

We are a large family and every one had their own bed. Yea!!! Plenty of room so we weren't crowded. First night we had crabs caught in the pier trap. My family love to fish and eat what the catch. The house is great. The Raub's are very nice and everyone had a good time. Great decor and plenty of dishes and cooking pots. Thanks.
