About Dena Friedman

My husband was born in New Orleans and he wanted a place to always come back to! He purchased this in 2004, just before Katrina, and we enjoy visiting as often as we can. This home served as a saving grace for our Father and his wife for 6 months after the hurricaine took their home...

Dena Friedman purchased this studio in 2004

Why Dena Friedman chose New Orleans

The location is amazing, right behind Jackson Square - an easy walk to all the hot spots of the French Quarter (including our favorite, Cafe Du Monde)!

What makes this studio unique

Old world charm meets modern comfort!

I am giving a five-star review because all of the most important things are 5-star. I would deduct a half star for a few annoying features. First the good: As everyone says, the location could not be better if you want to stay in the French Quarter. It is walking distance ( a half mile more or less) from just about anywhere you would want to go. You can walk to Frenchmen - where there are great music bars, lots of restaurants and just a happening place at night. you can also walk to the bus and street car stops on Canal if you want to explore Magazine Street or St. Charles. In another direction you can walk to the city park (Louis Armstrong). Of course you are close to everything in the Quarter an a block from Bourbon - if you must go there - as well as Jackson Square. And, the condo could not be any quieter, socked back in a court yard off the street. Another very important five-star feature is the owner who is very nice and very responsive. The wireless password we found wasn't correct, but by message - we had the new password in minutes. The bed was comfortable, the shower good and the TV worked great.

So the half-star I would deduct involves smaller issues. It is really really tiny. If there are two of you in the queen bed, someone cannot get in or out of the bed without crawling over the other person. The other annoying feature is that the closet clothes bar is so high, I had to climb up a step-stool to hang or retrieve my clothes. There is a kitchen but there really isn't anywhere to sit and eat - if that is something you want to do. We didn't really care because we only used the kitchen for coffee, wine, beer and snacks. The room is a little gloomy and the only usable outdoor space is a lovely courtyard - but it is 3 stories down. That is the other thing - be aware that this condo is a 3rd floor walk-up. We didn't mind - it helped work off some of that delicious New Orleans food.

We just stayed (mid Nov) and had a great time. The place is small but extremely comfortable. And the location simply cannot be beat, you are steps away from an awesome street in the quarter, not too far from Bourbon, but no obtrusive noise to keep you from sleeping at night.

Live like the locals

  • 5 of 5

Everyone agrees this condo is in an awesome location, but beyond that is the beauty of living like the locals. A beautiful iron door leads you back to a quaint courtyard. There you make your way upstairs to delicate french doors that open to a wonderful brick walled spacious room with rustic wooden floors. This is true New Orleans charm. Now step right out front on to the brick streets and enjoy the sounds of jazz bands, singers , and the clopping of horses hoofs. This is true New Orleans living. Also there is parking right around the corner on St.Ann Street at the Place d'Armes. This place gets a 10 for location and New Orleans charm.

Perfect Perfect and More Perfect

  • 5 of 5

The location is Perfect, the condo is perfect....clean, comfy, well taken care of.

I was shocked at how quite it was being that is was so close to everything. We found a garage close by (everything is close by in the quarter) and left the car there.

From this condo you can WALK to everything, Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, the French Market, you name it is close. The bed is wonderful. everything in the kitchen works, and to top it all off there is a great little courtyard to start your day or to end your evening. We will be renting here again SOOON!!!

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We took a long weekend to celebrate my birthday, and this was a great condo! The location was absolutely unbeatable - one block from Jackson Square (we could see the St. Louis cathedral spire from the balcony), one block from Bourbon Street and close to everything we needed. While small, the condo was well laid out and we did not feel cramped at all. Everything we needed was there, and even though the entrance was on Royal St., since the unit is at the back of the property, it was quiet regardless of what was happening out on the street. While I highly recommend this property, it is not suitable for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs. It is on the 3rd floor, and a winding staircase is the only access (no elevator). We did not have any difficulty, however, and are both in the age 55+ category. Adena was great to work with - very responsive to all my questions and prompt with the return of our security deposit. This will definitely be my first choice of places to stay the next time I visit New Orleans! Recommendations - breakfast at the Stanley - only a block away on the back corner of Jackson Square - great food and service! We also really enjoyed the Gazebo Café at the French Market - outdoor dining, fabulous service and live music all the time. We celebrated my birthday at a new restaurant -- the Creole Cookery -- which was spectacular. Located on Toulouse lakeside from Decatur, the service, food and entertainment were all amazing. Warning - it is expensive, but well worth the price! On Bourbon St. we loved Fat Catz - good band and great service. Outside the Quarter, Mulates has a great Cajun menu and the WWII museum is not to be missed (both are located in the Warehouse district uptown from the Quarter). All in all, it was a great little vacation!

What a great studio apartment - awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

A PERFECT location to enjoy everything in the French Quarter - and beyond! Studio was clean and surprisingly quiet. The only outside noise we heard was the pleasant sound of the Cathedral bells. Working with Adena was easy. I'd easily recommend Royal Living to others - and hope to return myself someday.
