Great location! Cozy cottage! Beautiful Douglas Lake! And the Douglas Lake Steakhouse being a few doors down is a Bonus!
Week with the Grand Kids
Middle of August and think I saw a total of 5 jet skiers all week and maybe the same number of tubers or skiers - wonderful, almost to peaceful if that can happen.
Great Location on the lake, being tucked into the southwest corner of the bay with the sandbar and island keeping the waters out front calmer then the rest of the lake.
Beautiful sand beach - note there are zebra mussels on the few rocks as it gets deeper.
Wonderful dock, best fishing we had all week was right at the end of it casting for bass.
Grand kids loved the canoe and peddle pontoon.
Cabin was very clean and more than comfortable, kitchen area is a small galley style, but with cooking outdoors either on the grill or open fire it was more than workable.
The bathroom is very large.
We just really had a very enjoyable relaxing week with our family.
Thanks Matt and Leslie!
Not what we had hoped. Have stayed in far better.
The lake was very nice and the part of the house that was remodeled was nice. The kitchen was not nice. It has a musty smell to it, there were moldy coffee grounds in the coffee maker, there was something gross in the refrigerator drawer. The timer on the stove kept going off for no reason. The floors in the two bedrooms slope towards the center of the house causing your feet to be higher than your head when you are trying to sleep. The mattresses are terrible, I know there was another review a couple of years suggesting new mattresses. The suggestion was not taken. My husband (this is the wife writing this) has some neck issues and could not sleep on either bed. He tried the sofa bed and that was even worse, the mattress has a huge crater in the middle so you are literally stuck in a hole. We had to buy an air mattress for him to sleep on. The bathroom was adequate except that I had to clean the shower. The doors were covered in scum. Easy fix is to actually spray the shower with some of the cleaner from under the sink, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse. We had the place until Saturday but we left on Thursday because neither of our backs could take another uncomfortable nights sleep. It WAS NOT because of the weather. I wrote an email to Leslie explaining to her why we left. A bit of advice...you don't blame your "guests" or try to make excuses for the things that caused their stay to be uncomfortable. There was no way for us to know there were mattress toppers in the closet. You said that the previous guests didn't want them on so you took them off. You should have put them back on, although I doubt that would have helped. You obviously know the mattresses are terrible, hence the mattress toppers. Don't make excuses for the mustiness, you can't! Its musty no matter how much you deny it. Don't say the floor isn't sloped, it clearly is, Matt even admitted it in a conversation. Maybe try rearranging the bedrooms.
Also, saying that sleeper sofas are never the best, that may be true but this one is just worn out and old. The canoe was broken so we couldn't use it. We do appreciate the other paddle boat that was brought over for us to use. Unfortunately that was not enough to warrant a better review. I was told we were the first to have these problems, I doubt it. I have stayed at other rentals and never had an experience like this. This was our experience. Make you own judgement. Back problems? Beware.
Our family of 4 was very comfortable here and enjoyed a very relaxing time on the lake. The cabin has lots of cute retro touches and the owners were very nice. There's a terrific restaurant like 4 cabins away (that serves dinner only).
Great cottage at Douglas Lake
Great cottage at Douglas Lake about a half hour drive to Mackinaw City and Bridge. This was a good location for us to do some day trips to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Good Hart, etc. Also very close to the beautiful Pellston Regional Airport if you are flying into the area. Plenty of room for two of us. The back bedrooms of the house are the old cottage which were still roomy enough and have a small step up to front portion. Kitchen had everything you needed. Bathroom was roomy with small step in shower. Front of the house has been remodeled but still had the cottage feel with a stone fireplace, wood flooring and wood walls and ceiling. Gorgeous view of the lake through the tall windows. Everything you needed outside too - grill, firepit, canoe, kayak and small paddleboat. Water was clear with sandy bottom. We really enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful vacation in the little yellow cottage. It was quiet, clean, and peaceful. From the photos on the web-site it looked small, but we were pleasantly surprised to see how spacious and open it was. I loved the tall windows on the porch and the lovely wood floors. The cabin has "artistic" touches that most rentals don't have. We really enjoyed our stay and we are looking forward to vacationing here again. Thanks for the flowers on the dining room table. We felt "at home" in your Beach Bucket cottage.
