Comfortable, peaceful, it had what we needed, great location
This was a great place for the price! My family of 5 stayed here a week, and enjoyed a comfortable stay. The house was in a perfect location, close to Ithaca and Cayuga lake and many waterfall hiking spots that we enjoyed all week. It's also about a 30 min drive from Watkin's Glen, which we also visited. We enjoyed the large windows in the living room and the screened in porch, the peacefulness of being in the middle of the woods, exploring the back yard walking trails. I was thankful for the nice washer/dryer, because we did need to do laundry several times during our week. I was pleased to find some games to play there, fans in the bedrooms, cleaning supplies, plenty of clean towels, TP, etc. The kitchen was well equipped - the only thing we didn't find that we could have used was measuring cups for making pancakes. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because there were a few ants getting into the kitchen and we had to spray around the window, and because the upstairs bathroom was a bit small and towels tended to stay damp with 5 people showering and no a/c in the bathroom. The bedroom and living room window a/c units kept the place plenty cool, even on the hotter days we were there. We found the beds to be very comfortable and we slept well. The landlord, Bryan, was very responsive - he got back to us right away to answer any questions we had, and he was very quick to meet the needs we had as well. We would certainly stay here again for that price.
Wonderful, large place that is close to so many attractions!
I actually give this a 4.5 star. First, Bryan was AWESOME to work with. Very responsive and accommodating. He even added air conditioning units for our stay (without our asking) as we were in a heat wave. I really appreciated that he was OK that our party ballooned from 5 people to 8. For the record, the place actually comfortably sleeps 7. Our 8th person was not relegated to the floor either. He was fine on the couch. :) We were only there for a couple of days for a 50K/50 mile race that 3 were running in at the National Forest. This house is perfectly situated for easy trips to many of the parks in the area and to Ithaca. We loved the screened porches and how big the house was. It was perfect how the kitchen was pretty separated so those of us up at 4:30 AM did not disturb the rest of the people sleeping. It was great having 2.5 bathrooms as well, but agree the basement one is for "more hardy" people. I have rented a number of homes and this one had by far the most in the kitchen for cooking. 6 stars for that. :)
The driveway is very steep (as are pretty much all of the places down that road). There is parking at the top of the driveway that I personally think is easier to negotiate than the garage further down the road as you can turn around there. We just backed down the driveway and had no issues, and the other 2 cars parked at the top. The house was pretty quiet, but I could still hear traffic in the upstairs bedroom. I am a very light sleeper. No one else was bothered by it. Just a heads up if you are a light sleeper. The only ding I would give it is that it appears it is on a well. The water is potable as members of our group drank it without any issues, but I would recommend bringing water if well water is not your thing. Other than that, this was an awesome stay with an incredible owner.
Just a note that all houses on or near the lake use well water. Our house has a deep well, which means the water is fresh and does not require chlorination. Houses closer to the lake, however, draw from either shallow wells or the lake itself, in which case the water must go through a more extensive treatment process. We upgraded our entire well system within the past 4 years, and replaced the well pump last year.
Amazing! Beautiful! Close to everything!
Fantastic property, my family and I had a wonderful stay! Proximity to so many things, you will feel secluded but not remote. Bryan answers any questions promptly, and genuinely cares that you enjoy your time at his unique property. Thank you Bryan for having us, and anyone looking do not hesitate to snag this reservation!
Wonderful cottage tucked away from road and close to lake near Ithaca.
Enjoyed the fully furnished 3 bedroom cottage in the winter with all the wonderful restaurants in Ithaca about 5 miles away.
Lovely house nestled in the woods close to the lake and beautiful stream. Perfect base for all fingerlakes activities. Brian is very friendly and quick to respond to questions. We definitely recommend and would come back again. Thank you Brian, Happy Holidays!
Great vacation cabin! Loved it!
Just what I was looking for. clean and comfortable. Loved the way it's decorated and the wood floors and panelling. Very country, very homey. Will definitely book again.
The house is nestled in a forest on the Western shores of Cayuga Lake, five miles from downtown Ithaca, and five miles south of Taughannock Falls State Park. Taughannock Falls is the highest falls east of the Mississippi, and is taller than Niagara Falls. The house is on the southern end of the Cayuga wine trail, home to many outstanding vineyards and wineries that offer exceptional wines. Cayuga Lake is over 40 miles long, and offers all kinds of recreation from kayaking to jet skiing. Ithaca is, literally, surrounded by and filled with gorgeous gorges.
