The home was is great condition and it was in a great location. We were across the street from the beach, next to a child's playground and could walk a few blocks to coffee and ice cream. We had a great weekend.
Took a family vacation with a baby, a toddler, and a grandma. Everyone had an amazing time. The beach is literally one block away as are a number of restaurants and shops. We easily went to the beach every day of our stay. The Boxwood House is equipped with everything you’ll need from cooking and relaxing to entertainment. The playroom was a big hit with my daughter who spent down time playing with all the games, puzzles, and books. So fun! The travel crib they provided also meant we didn’t have to pack our own for the baby. They also had a number of beach toys, buckets, etc which helped keep the kiddo busy on the sand. Georgianna is a helpful, responsive, and excellent host. We highly recommend a stay at the Boxwood House!

Great little town getaway
We stayed at the Boxwood over the 4th and it was a very charming house that reflects genuine feel of history and simplicity back to a time where we felt a bond with family and unconcerned with our present world situations. I loved the originality of the house, from the ceiling light fixture to the loose stair rail to the the claw foot tub. The only distraction was the person next door using a weed eater to mow his lawn at 11:00 at night The only comfort complaint was the mattress on pull out couch, definitely needs to be replaced, other than that besides a few things that needed a general handyman touch, it was very cozy and its character adorable!
Overall we had a good stay. House was nice and we enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch.
Location was good. Wish the town had a bit more to do. For our teen age boys.
Hosts were great. Check in was very easy.
Loved the front porch and drinking coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. Town is golf cart friendly so we used the cart to go everywhere. Beach is a short walk, as well as many restaurants. Free putt-putt right around the corner. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
We literally parked our car and walked everywhere the entire week! The home was clean and had everything we needed. The hosts are close by if you need anything! We really enjoyed the wrap around porch!
We loved our time at Colonial Beach and our stay in this beautiful home!
Property was perfect for our group of 7. Walking distance from beach a plus! Excellent value, great location, pleasant and responsive hosts. Hope to stay again.
We had a great time and Loved staying at The Boxwood. It was very clean and accommodating, and we got to meet the owners and they were very nice and helpful. We will definitely choose this location again. We had our teenage grandsons and they loved the location of the house and the beach. Would definitely recommend you checking out this property, the owners even own a little restaurant right behind the rental house and it serves delicious food!
Colonial Beach will be a definite destination in our future and staying again at the Boxwood will be on our list!!
For families with small children, the wrap porch is a perfect place to relax while your little ones, run, eat, and play in the shade. Inside, the large screen TV provides unlimited choices for the whole family. The pantry is generouseley stocked in case you forgot something and there is a new large commercial grade water heater so you never run out for showers. We had 6 adults and 3 small children anad appreciated the proximity to the beach, restaurants and ice ceam. One warning: bring pool shoes, the beach and river are rocky!
The Boxwood is very, very welcoming-from the front porch swing and rockers to the comfy beds. The kitchen is well-equipped and stocked. It's a short walk from the house to the beach (and ice cream) as well as excellent restaurants especially Suki the Cuisine (thanks Justin for such great service!). The property is also convenient to attractions such as Washington's birthplace and fossil hunting at Westmoreland State Park. Thank you for the enjoyable visit.
Great place to stay. Great location. Easy walk to beach, shops and restaurants. Home was nice and had an old farmhouse feel. Well stocked. So all I as to bring was my clothes.
We had a fantastic week at Boxwood - it’s a charming old house that was perfect for our family of 5. Conveniently located in the heart of Colonial Beach, we could walk or bike anywhere we needed to go. The beach toys and bikes to borrow were so helpful!!
Georgianna was a great host - the house is well stocked for anything we needed. As soon as we drove away, the kids asked when we could we come back?? Hopefully soon!!
The Boxwood house was great. The location was amazing. Beds were comfortable. Tons of amenities: sheets, soft towels, bottled water, soap and shampoo, games and many more.
One thing to keep in mind if you have small children: the house is circa 1905 and the banister is a little wobbly and no place to put a spring gate at the top of the stairs.
Our 2.5 year old was fine though, and we will stay there again
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The bedrooms were thoughtfully appointed, comfortable, and clean. The kitchen is small but modern and comfortable. The upstairs bathroom is more old-fashioned and less user-friendly, so we mostly used the downstairs one, which is a little larger and more updated. Connectivity was great. We loved the little touches like decor, throw blankets, and games and books galore. We rented a golf cart for the week, which was a fun way to zip around town, to beaches, ice cream, and restaurants.
We've rented this property for several years now and still find it to be our favorite. The owner is easy to get ahold of and quick to correct any issues that there may be.
