Testimonials from renters:

Mollie from Manhattan- We loved it! I can't wait to come back again. Thanks so much for your hospitality. I thought it was great - close to Portland, lots of lakes, great that the water is just a few steps away. I've already recommended to several friends.

Dagny, Don and Bathsheba from Barbados- My husband and I took a decade long dream come true fishing trip with his two sons at this lovely cottage. Very clean and comfortable, charming and accommodating hosts. We can't wait to return and bring the wives and grandkids.

Anna from MA- We had a great time thank you. If we go on vacation next year, we would like to stay again. I will keep the address in my save box.

Mike from RI- Thanks. We had a great time at the cottage. The area is beautiful and the cottage was perfect. Thankfully, we had great weather. Hopefully we'll be up again next year.

Dayna from MA- Just wanted to let you know that we had a good time over the weekend...exactly what we needed. The cottage was great. We hope to make another trip back sometime.

Laurie from MA at Christmas- Our family of four enjoyed the beautiful lake location and enjoyed the warmth on the piney wood on the inside. Our winter vacation allowed days of jammies and tea as well as local excursion incuding tubing, ice skating, antiquing and museum hopping. It was delightful to be able to cook great meals and enjoy the luxury of the wilderness.

The three bedroom cottage can hold up to six people. The cottage has several amenities you may not find at all vacation rentals. It has a dock, grill, stove, enclosed porch, and a campfire area with firewood. A spiral staircase takes you to one of the bedrooms. Pets are welcomed and there is a walking area on the grounds.

Upon your arrival, the cottage has such supplies as toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, trash bags, common kitchen spices, dish towels, matches, firewood, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and flashlights. Renters must provide their own linens and towels for bathing. Two beds are queen size and one bed is full size. The cottage has several board games and two televisions. One television has over-air broadcast, Roku and dvd. The other television has over-air and dvd.

The area is truly a four season delight! In the summer, many vacationers visit the Lake Region to fish, boat, sightsee, kayak, canoe, and just relax on one of the many bodies of water. In the fall, the region is known for wonderful fall foliage. Hunters visit to hunt for various game such as deer and turkey. In the winter, vacationers come for the snow for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing.

The cottage is a 30 minute drive to Pleasant Mountain, 45 minute drive to Lost Valley, 45 minute drive to the ocean and an hour drive to Sunday River Mountain. During all four seasons, anglers of all ages fish for such species as landlocked salmon, bass, lake trout, and brook trout. A unique feature of the area is the Songo Locks, one of the last remaining functioning locks to connect two bodies of water in Maine.

The price is based on number of occupants, length of stay and season. It is a pet-friendly rental that does not charge extra for pets. Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors but smoking is allowed outside. The well water is tested annually to ensure it is drinkable. A security deposit is required to reserve and occupy the cottage.

The deposit amount is based on the length of stay and number of occupants. The security deposit is usually $450 per week and an extra security deposit of $50 per pet. Overnight guests are charged $50 per night. Paypal with 3% fees, checks or cash are accepted. Reservation deposits are refunded in full if canceled with more than 6 week's notice from arrival date.

About Kyle

Hi, I am Kyle Rhoads and I usually respond to rental inquiries. The cottage is family-owned with my parents, Cathy and Rich Rhoads, as the caretakers. My wife, Carrie, and my sister, Lynley, often help keep the cottage maintained and cleaned. We are family of educators with my parents both retired educators. I am a Principal of a local elementary school and my sister and wife are both counselors in schools. We love this location for the family memories, the peaceful living and our love for watersports. My Dad loves to fish and often helps renters know where to find the best spots to catch 'the big one' that did not get away!

Kyle purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Kyle chose Long Lake

Our family bought the cottage to have a place for present and future generations of our family to relax and enjoy the summer months on the water in Maine. Because of taxes and the mortgage payments, we rent the cottage so we can keep the cottage owned by our family.

What makes this cottage unique

The enclosed porch is a great spot to sip coffee and read a book without the worry of a mosquito! The natural smell of pine needles helps you relax and remember the true beauty of the Maine landscape. The cottage is well-maintained and kept clean but the interior makes you feel that you went back in time!

QUIET True Maine Place!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here several times and truly enjoy the cabin. It is very well made up and has a wonderful screeened porch to enjoy the cool night air without the bugs. Kyle is a great host and very friendly. They are pet friendly and my pet loved it here. The cabin has everything you need, just bring sheets and your clothing and food. I would definately come back!

Relaxing and enjoyable get away

Very peaceful, relaxing get away on the Crooked River. The cabin has everything you need. Best for a rustic, low key vacation with great access to the water and the many connecting lakes.

this property is just about perfect.

  • 5 of 5

The owners are great. Helpful with information , and always available if you need them. The river sis beautiful, and great for swimming, boating and fishing, and you can get down river right into Sebago Lake, though we found the river more relaxing.

I really can't think of anything that the Rhoads Family didn't think of.

In short this place is relaxation personified.

Absolutely beautiful spot.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage had the exact rustic feel I was looking for, from the wood walls to the smell. I loved it. There is lots of room and had all the comforts you need. Kyle and his family were friendly and quickly responded to our needs when necessary. I highly recommend.

Camp was unique in a charming way. In a beautiful spot with all comforts of home and more!

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying due to a place with Poor communication we were left stranded with two dogs a packed truck and nowhere to go on the eve of my husbands 51st b-day. KYLE AT THE VERY LAST MINUTE saved us and my husbands surprise. We were in touch recently before that day and he accommadated us. AND THE STAY WAS WONDERFUL. Our favorite part was our dogs and us on the canoe. You wont be sorry renting from this wonderful family. And we will be back😊?

Rustic and charming

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this charming cabin. It brought back childhood memories of a cabin my grandparents had. Even though there are cottages on each side of this cabin, it is a very quiet setting and private enough. It was beautiful to just sit and watch the river - very picturesque. It reminded me of the Huckelberry Finn book where Huck and Jim are on the raft sailing down the river. Kyle provides a lot of information of things to do and places to visit. I don't think he has updated the information book for a while as Sandy's Restaurant has been closed for two years, and Blacksmith's wine tasting has also closed. There are other places Kyle recommended such as Butcher's where we had excellent lobster and The Black Horse Tavern in Bridgeton (not sure of the spelling) where we enjoyed an excellent meal. Kyle and his parents are very attentive to the needs of their renters. If you like rustic and a place to sit back and chill, then this is the place for you. If you are planning on going with a number of people and have knee problems or a physical debilitation of some sort and cannot stay in the downstairs bedroom - would not recommend as the stairs to the two loft bedrooms are very steep and difficult to navigate.
