About the property

The Yough Riverhouse: 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths. Best location in Confluence

The Yough Riverhouse (YRH) sleeps 12, is on the river and GAP bike trail.

Located in the town of Confluence, near Lucky Dog Cafe and Riversport--in the heart of the Laurel Highlands Mountains.

YRH is on the Yough River at the tailwaters of the dam, next to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail and surrounded by over 50 acres of protected woods AND within walking distance to town. *Note: Western PA Conservancy recently purchased the woods surrounding the home. Trails in the works!*

YRH has a large yard, relaxing front porch with adirondack chairs, and hot tub on the deck just off the living room/kitchen. Beyond the deck there is large, shady picnic area with a gas grill, picnic tables and a fire ring in the side yard. And a private, landscaped riverfront for fishing or lounging with a another fire ring and benches. On the other side of the house is a wooden playground for the kids.

The house is 3000 sq feet and features a spacious living room with beautiful stone fireplace, drawing room with hard wood floors, dining room, full kitchen and mud room. There are 3 full bathrooms, one downstairs and 2 up. All 5 bedrooms upstairs have window a/c units. There is: a Master bedroom with king (and a double), 3 rooms with queens and 1 room with twins. There is 1 small additional sleep space with a double futon downstairs for non stair climbing guests.

Enjoy the natural beauty of the area relaxing on front porch overlooking the river. Listen for geese, ducks and other birds. Fly fish for trout in the well stocked tailwaters of the dam in the front yard. Watch for heron, osprey or if you are lucky the bald eagles.

Make a day swimming and boating at the Yough Lake. Take a break from your ride through from DC to Pittsburgh on the bike trail or spend the day biking shorter routes to nearby Ohiopyle, Connellsville, Rockwood or Meyersdale. Make this the perfect retreat for trips to the 2 Frank Lloyd Wright homes (Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob) nearby. We are centrally located to the ski resorts (Wisp in Deep Creek, Seven Springs & Hidden Valley) and 20 min from Nemacolin Resort. Enjoy rafting, canoeing and kayaking right out our door-or for more adventure in nearby Ohiopyle or Friendsville, MD.

The YRH is ideal for a big or multi family vacation, friends getaway or a family reunion.

About Kara (Riverhouse)

I was born in Confluence and grew up kayaking the rivers and playing in the mountains. After getting married, my husband and I settled in Confluence and continued to enjoy the outdoors, started a business and raised 2 sons here. In 2010 we moved to nearby Morgantown, WV but didn't want to part with our home, so we started a vacation rental. The best part about owning vacation rental homes is that it allows us to share the wonders of the Laurel Highlands with others.

Kara (Riverhouse) purchased this house in 2012

Why Kara (Riverhouse) chose Confluence

The Riverhouse has an unbeatable location and the perfect layout for a multi generational family, multiple families or large groups of friends. Step out the front door to the Yough River, hop on your bike and access the GAP trail or hike in the 50 acres of woods behind the house. The house is spacious, well appointed and clean. The large yard, picnic space and river side fire ring area are meant for family and friend quality time. Come to the mountains to relax and enjoy.

What makes this house unique

The Riverhouse has a fantastic, spacious downstairs. The stone fireplace in the living room is beautiful, there are hardwood floors in the drawing room and plenty of room and seating for everyone to be comfortable. The view of the river and the amazing Oak tree from the front porch is outstanding. One step out of the car from a long drive and instantly you are on vacation!

Don't forget the convenience to town, the quiet, the surrounding woods, strolling down to Lucky Dog Cafe for lunch or dinner, drinking coffee while reading the paper on the porch, basically no traffic on our one lane road, the eagles, heron and osprey, the fishing and the proximity to the bike trail, oh and the river!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Yough Riverhouse. We had 10 family members and the house was more than comfy for us all. The location was perfect for all of our activities. We rode bikes, kayaked the river and fished. The campfire ring provided a great place to recall a lot of family stories and tons of laughter. Thanks for providing us with such a loverly home. We will be back!

Beautiful, spacious home on Yough River and bike trail with hot tub
average rating of 5.0 based on 12 reviews

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Such a perfect place for our large family gathering! The living areas were able to hold all of us (9 adults, 3 babies, and 2 dogs), while there was also bedrooms for all of the couples to have privacy. The hot tub and pet friendly option were huge bonuses. House was clean and had everything we needed. We also sincerely appreciated the Christmas decorations! It made everything that much sweeter.

A pleasant country home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful older home, with updated bathrooms, great views of the river, and perfect location for us visiting Falling Water. The owners have a few homes they rent, so they know the process, very responsive and helpful. We only had 6 staying here so left some bedrooms unused, but was nice to have a full sized home to base from. Nice plush high-end towels, custom made soap in each bathroom, and firewood already stacked and ready by the indoor fireplace. We noticed the indoor fireplace and outdoor firepit in the listing which was one reason we picked this over others. Most vacationers to this part of the country like a nice evening fire (inside on cold nights, outside in the summer) to end the day.

Yearly vacation with family

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 families together and there was plenty of room. The house was beautiful. The front porch looking at the river was so peaceful. The location was excellent. A lot of attractions were close. The kids room was nice for our grandkids. The yard around the house was great for the grandkids to play.

We are returning next year for a week because we loved it so much. We were there for 4 nights and we need more time

We went to Seven Springs, Christian W Winery, Distillery, Shopping Logonier, Lucky Dog pub and Cucumber Falls. Still so much to see and do.

Kara and John answered all of the emails very Quickly

Thank you for the wonderful time

We all loved the place, it had everything we needed and more. The river right across the street was really nice and a beautiful sight after a couple of inches of snow.

The place was roomy, there were 11 of us and we had more than enough space to move around, but our favorite place was right by the fireplace and the kitchen (with everything we needed).

This house would be great for families and a group of friends. The porch was a favorite and we just wished we could have spent some time on it, but it was really cold. We did get the snow which made everything look really nice.

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice and quiet space, and I think it would be an even better place in the summer months with the river right there.

Family birthday and Christmas celebrations

  • 5 of 5

This place is fantastic! There was lots of room for our family of 12 plus two dogs! Despite the rain - and snow flurries! - we walked the trail, had a fire in the fire pit and enjoyed the hot tub! Kids enjoyed having their own playroom and TV. The bedrooms are great with comfortable mattresses. Kitchen is well equipped. The 15 month old wouldn't sit at the Dining Room table - the moose scared her! I'm sure next year she will do better!

Confluence is a small town with one grocery store, hardware store and a couple of restaurants. At this time of year, be prepared as not a lot of places are open. No problem for us as we pack our food, drinks and games!

Kara and John are awesome hosts! They are the best we have rented from through VRBO!

We have already booked for next year!
