If you are comfortable walking, cycling, and taking the bus you don’t need a car. The bus 15 is a block away, and takes you downtown, and to the Pearl District and NW 23rd, and connects with the light rail system (MAX), in the other direction it takes you to Mt Tabor Park. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the 2.2 miles to downtown’s Pioneer Courthouse Square along a pleasant route. Laurelhurst Park and Colonel Summers Park are each within 10 blocks. Whole Foods, and Safeway grocery stores are within 10 blocks. New Seasons and Fred Meyers grocery stores are about a mile away.
The specifics ... this mid century duplex was designed by the architect who lived next door, for his son. The units are side by side, and sited on a peaceful 14,000 sq ft lot. The large yard provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The current owners live in the other half of the duplex, and are happy to be a resource for information and advice on your stay in Portland. The home is approximately 1500 sq ft with 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen sized bed. Upstairs is a bedroom with 2 twin sized beds. The bathroom is on the main floor opposite the bedrooms, and at the base of the stairs from the upstairs bedroom. The main floor has hardwoods throughout. The living room has two couches and chairs and opens to a sunny front porch sitting area. The dining room has a table that sits six. There is a flat screen TV with network and internet TV. A stereo system hooks to your computer or MP3 player. Comcast internet and WiFi is available. There’s a full kitchen with all the basics to cook for your self but with all the fun food choices in walking distance you’ll be tempted to eat out. The basement provides bike storage, and a laundry area. There is a high efficiency gas forced air furnace, and central air conditioning.

About Laurie and Matt
Matt grew up in Portland, and after traveling and exploring, we are very happy to be home again in Portland.
Laurie and Matt purchased this House in 1999
Why Laurie and Matt chose Buckman Neighborhood
This is a great spot to live, and to appreciate the best of what Portland has to offer. Once we are home at the end of the work day we can ditch our cars and walk to everything we need, great grocery shopping, seasonal farmers markets, parks, restaurants, bakeries and dessert spots, bars, and nightlife. There is more to do in our neighborhood than we have time to enjoy.
What makes this House unique
What makes inner Portland so walkable to amenities is the density. Most homes are tightly grouped with small yards. We have the luxury of large yard, anchored by a giant Deadora Cedar, allowing a place to enjoy the outside just out the back door.

Charming, comfortable, and welcoming!
This lovely vintage home was perfect for our family while in Portland. We found it to be very clean, with comfortable beds, nice linens, and plenty of towels on hand. Our family likes to cook. So, finding a kitchen well stocked with all the plates, tools, etc. to make meals was a real bonus. Also, the off street parking and easy access was really great. Laurie and Matt are welcoming and very helpful. There was even fresh flowers waiting for us when we arrived. We look forward to our next stay there.
Even better in person!
The house was better in person! Beautiful white beds, fresh flowers, lots of thoughtful “extras”. Excellent central location.
Family stay in Portalnd
Very convenient for my visiting family. Laurie and Matt are friendly and accommodating. The family was very comfortable. Quiet street, good location.
Clean, comfortable and quiet, in a convenient, central location
We visited Portland for a week over Thanksgiving, and enjoyed our stay at this property. It's on a quiet residential street, but only a block from the activity on Belmont, a short walk from Burnside, Stark and Hawthorne stores, grocers, and restaurants. The hosts have nicely furnished the home. The bed was very comfortable ( and I am rarely comfortable when traveling due to back issues) with down pillows and comforter. We prepared Thanksgiving dinner here, and the kitchen was well stocked with all sorts of pots, pans and dishware. The home is very clean with hardwood floors throughout, no dust or clutter! The hosts were friendly and thoughtful. This was a great vacation for us and nice to be able to relax at this very comfortable retreat! Thank you Laurie and Matt!
Comfortable, clean and quiet place to stay in a central location
We could not have been happier with this place. The house was clean, the beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was well equiped and the location was great. It was an easy walk to the Laurelhurst neighborhood with many shops and restaurants, a short drive to the Richmond area on Division, another nice neighborhood with fun restaurants, and even a nice walk into downtown Portland to see the Saturday market and then on to the Saturday farmer's market at the college. With a couple of day trips to the coast, Cannon Beach and Astoria one day and McMinnville another (for goat cheese and pinot noir tasting), the week flew by, but it was always nice to come home to this place at the end of the day. Driving note: avoid driving around Portland at rush hour, its a mess; the freeways and bridges are clogged with traffic.
Comfortable and nice location
The house was very comfortable and had an especially well equipped kitchen. The owners, Laurie and Matt were very nice.
