We really enjoyed our visit! The cabin was fully stocked with everything we needed. The patio by the water was beautiful. We really enjoyed the fire pit and the grill. Wonderful place to stay!
Great long weekend getaway on the Guadalupe River. Very nice house for a couple or small family. Outdoor patio with firepit and grill were fantastic, and the little dock on the river made for great fishing and relaxing. Would definitely recommend.
This cabin has its charm and the kitchen had everything we needed. Plenty of space for the four of us inside but the back deck and back yard and lower level eating area and dock on the water made the perfect outdoor setting! Loved breakfast on the deck and the view of the river and easy access to the river. We highly recommend this place even though it rained every day we still enjoyed our stay!
No complaints, nice place. Great deck, though it maybe wouldn’t have been as nice if the adjacent place had been occupied - that deck was pretty close. The patio down by the water is a pleasant spot. The spiral staircase could be a problem for some. Kitchen and dining area were fine. Overall it was a good choice for my wife and me, and our son and his SO.
The cabin and property were fantastic; my family and I had a wonderful time. It was great floating the river all day and coming back to a place that was cool and very comfortable, very quiet as well. The fishing off the dock was pretty good early in the morning and late in the evening. My wife and I very much enjoyed watching our boys catch perch one after another. I got some fishing in myself by myself one morning and it was very satisfying and a fun way to start the day. I added a photo to justify my fishing story. LOL! We would recommend this little cabin to anyone and plan on staying again in the future.
I have many fond memories of the house and river from my childhood and then later with my two boys after moving back to San Antonio. I really enjoy sharing it with others, especially children.
Why they chose this property
On Easter day around 1971, my parents found the lot when they took the four kids on a drive looking for a place to picnic. Several weeks later my father saw an add in the newspaper that the lot they picnicked on was for sale. This was before the area became known for its recreation.
What makes this property unique
My father built this in the early 1970s using plans he obtained from a government forestry research station promoting affordable rural wood construction (lumber was very cheap then). The plans are lost but I found a document in his files titled “Construction Notes The Gothic cottage of Wood” by H. F. Zornig, April 10, 1970, Athens, GA
