Older home on a very lazy river

  • 3 of 5

The house was clean but is very old and dated. Two of the bedrooms are very small. One has no dresser or closet. We called for help as there were only 4 forks available in the otherwise well stocked kitchen. The rental company responded very well and dropped by an additional 6 forks! I thought that was nice. Later we found that there were no remotes for the DVD player and the TV so we let them know that as we checked out. Just FYI note that there is no dishwasher nor washer and dryer. The wifi worked well but we had NO cell phone coverage at the house.

The river is running very slowly of late. On the day we went tubing (rentals from the nice folks at Roy's across the river) if the wind blew you were pushed backwards!

There were lots and lots of campers directly across the river (at Roy's) and the people at the house next door were boisterous - karaoke until 1AM. They are right next door, as in feet away, so noisy is the best way to describe the atmosphere.

Owner's Response: Thanks for coming to Riverside Roost. Right after you left we received some needed rain and the river is flowing like it should :) The remotes were found in the drawer and we've made sure the house is fully stocked. The Guadalupe River is a fun place that many people enjoy during the summer. We'd love to have you come back any time.

Beautiful setting on the river

  • 4 of 5

Very nice riverfront property- beautiful deck with chairs & hammock to relax & enjoy. We were allowed early check in on Memorial Day giving us all afternoon to float the river. Roy’s tube rentals across the bridge from the property were awesome & very convenient. Only issue we were expecting bunk beds in one room & they have been replaced with a queen bed. The rental company was great & provided an air mattress that afternoon. Very enjoyable stay

Nice little hideaway on the river

  • 4 of 5

This is a cute little house right on the river. Unfortunately it was raining during most of our stay, so we never got to utilize the balcony or the little path down to the river.

The house itself is no frills, but very comfortable. The owner provides all the major necessities. The balcony is very large and well equipped, I wish we would have been able to hang out on it more than just stepping out to take in the view before running being soaked and running back inside.

I would definitely recommend this place for a family get away or small gathering.

Great place - highly recommended

  • 4 of 5

Great place right on the river. The house was clean and generally well-appointed, directions and access into the property were easy, and the location is convenient to New Braunfels and Canyon Lake. Only complaints are: 1) the house could use more lamps (it's overhead lights or nothing in some areas); 2) the ironing board was missing; 3) at the time of our stay, the seawall was under renovation (that's a temporary problem but we should have been informed before renting as it was noisy and resulted in dangerous site conditions... probably would give a 5-star review if not for that).

If you want to tube the river, speak to the locals first. The Guadalupe is sometimes low and not great for tubing. The Comal River is a short drive away, has a nice tube ride, and is spring-fed which makes it cleaner and a little warmer. We went to Texas Tubes and their service was great. Canyon Lake Marina is close by and offers great boat rentals. Don't miss Los Gallos for breakfast tacos and Rudy's for BBQ.

Overall good place and would stay here again.

Owner's Response: So glad y'all enjoyed your stay. We really love this house. Thanks for the feed back - we've addressed all three issues. Come back anytime and enjoy the new steps into the Guadalupe!
