About Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck
Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining the necessary land use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October 2011, the Creekside Cabin in June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin in June, 2013 and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main central lodge will be built.
Why Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck chose Bend
Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well known for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc. Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to Bend. We believe this is a very special place and think you will feel the same way after visiting.
What makes this House unique

Beautiful and relaxing
We were looking for a nice home to rent on a lake that was quiet. This cabin and location delivered just that. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for the woodstove, the hot tub and for cooking meals at home. We were very pleased and will come back in the summer to enjoy the lake and hiking.
Warm cozy cabin in the winter woods
Fireplace, hot tub, heated floors, comfy beds. Everything you need for a romantic winter getaway. The view was also very nice. We were there for our honeymoon and really enjoyed our stay.
Just about perfect
You might think the place couldn't possibly live up to the website photos and reviews. You'd be wrong. The cabin is spectacular, the owners are great to deal with, and the lake offers both a lot of fun and great serenity. Having the canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards available was a nice plus. If you're into hiking, the hike to Happy Valley, above Tumalo Falls, is definitely worth doing. Road and mountain biking around Bend is exceptional, and the craft beer selection is outstanding.
Our week at Tumalo Lake was about as good as it gets. Highly recommended.
Always a wonderful time at Tumalo Lake, we'll be back again
Amazing, unique setting away from it all
Scenic, peaceful, tucked away cabins surrounded by Forest service land
These cabins (homes) are tucked artfully beside the lake thus that the lake is visible from the cabins but the cabins aren't easily seen while kayaking the lake. Our home was spacious, artfully decorated, extremely clean. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well appointed for simple or complex cooking. The hot tub was clean, well maintained, large and had fantastic jets and soaking while overlooking the lake was amazing. The location feels remote and there is absolutely no traffic noise but town is 15 minutes away if needed to resupply. There is a 2 mile hiking trail from the cabins that encircles the lake...and many more hiking and biking and back-country ski trails arising 1.5 miles miles from the cabin. Access to cabins is on a well-maintained 1.5 mile gravel road. It was tricky backing out of our driveway. Will definitely revisit even though we live in Bend! Bill Houck was an attentive but unobtrusive host.
Phenomenal place and setting
This was the perfect place for our first HomeAway experience. We stayed here for my husband's 40th birthday and loved the secluded setting yet relative proximity to all that Bend has to offer. The cabins are amazing. Clean, well decorated, and thoughtful gestures like enough firewood for your stay.
Lots of outdoor activities right at your fingertips. We walked the short path around Lake Tumalo, but next time we'll have to come with more outdoorsy friends so that we can take advantage of all the hiking opportunities nearby!
The only "downside" was not being able to bring our dog. But completely understand why they wouldn't allow dogs in such a nice place. (It would only take one bad apple to ruin the place)
Thanks again for such a wonderfully relaxing stay! We want to come back during each season!
