About Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck

Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development, construction and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field.

Why Tracy Lucente & Bill Houck chose Central Oregon

Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October, 2011, The Creekside Cabin in June, 2012, the Lakeside East Cabin in June, 2013, and the Lakeside West Cabin in October, 2014. Eventually a main lodge will be built.

We believe this is a very special place and think you will feel the same after visiting.

What makes this house unique

Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc. Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to Bend.

We stocked Tumalo Lake with trout in 2013 and guest this past Summer landed Rainbows up to 16-18'.

This Winter weather permitting we will be building an ice skating ring on Tumalo Lake.

There is no other place so close to Bend affording such quality accommodations, privacy and natural beauty.

Guestbook comments from the owner

There were 11 of us here and this cabin had more than enough room for all of us. Had a great time canoeing, paddle boarding, even used the raft. The hike around the lake was beautiful. The Great Horned Owls made us feel right at home. Thanks for everything- your cabin and property are amazing. Hope to be back soon.

We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed every minuted! I brought my adult children and young grandchildren and the accommodations were perfect! So clean and everything we needed. We enjoyed the water and all the fun toys that were provided! We will be back!

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

The Tumalo Lake Cabin was exactly what we were looking for! Our aim for this trip was to stay in homes that reflected the area in which we were staying. The cabin certainly achieved that goal. The home is spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. The radiant heat made the house cozy and the woodstove added a homey feel that we enjoyed very much. I can't say enough about the beauty of the location. Despite the fact that it rained the entire three days time we were there (unusual for the high desert, even in October), we enjoyed the natural beauty immensely. Bill was a very good host and we were glad that he had lights on for us for our late night arrival. We will definitely stay again.

My 60th birthday celebration

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at the spectacular Creekside cabin at Tumalo Lake. Seven of us enjoyed hiking and kayaking on the lake, and when there was rain, we felt so cozy in our luxurious forest home. We enjoyed the fire pit and the wonderful spa. We thought it was a good value in such a beautiful place compared to getting 4 hotel rooms and eating every meal out. Would highly recommend and would love to stay again.

Perfect cabin and location

  • 5 of 5

We will be back! Clean cabin and beautiful lake! Thank you Bill for all the wonderful amenities. All 10 of us were in heaven! Even the kids didn't fight once because they too had some much to do and loved it! Can't wait to bring the rest of our clan up to enjoy your home, the fresh air and fishing!

4 couples on golf vacation

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time. Enjoyed fishing the lake and had 2 golden eagles and one bald eagle also working the lake. The house is a little removed from Bend but that turned out to be a blessing. The lack of TV required us to spend time together. The beds were fantastic. House was clean with everything we needed. Would stay here again. Road needs to be paved.

Delightfully Unexpected

  • 5 of 5

This is a jewel. How often do you get to stay in a beautiful and luxurious "cabin" on a stunning private lake? The lake was still frozen and gorgeous when we got there but we watched it thaw rather quickly in unseasonably warm weather. We brought bikes to ride on the bike trails close by and drove into charming Bend for dinner and shopping. Next time we will take advantage of the many hiking opportunities. The best parts of our trip were when we enjoyed the fire pit at night and spending time together playing board games. The owner and caretaker were very considerate and made us feel they truly cared if we were comfortable and satisfied. We will be back!
