Not Good in the Cold

  • 2 of 5

I imagine that it is an okay place to stay in warm weather...but not in cold weather! The Bunk Bed Bedroom was freezing our whole stay. We had to keep the 2 lower bedroom doors closed all of the time, otherwise they would get very cold. The downstairs bathroom area was way to cold also. The Bunk Bed bathroom was basically unusable because it was sooo cold. The rest of the accommodations were adequate at best. The sofa had a broken arm...the audio/visual system was a mess to try to figure out (unplug this, plug this in, unplug that, etc.). The kitchen and dining area were nice, but bring your own wine glasses.

Disappointing experience

  • 2 of 5

This is our first real disappointment with a VRBO property. Began with poor communication from the owner prior to our stay. Two weeks before our reservation we still had not received directions , check in instructions or ways to contact owner except through VRBO. I wrote to the owner explaining that I was about to leave on our trip and would have unreliable e-mail service for the first part of our trip. His response was that he didn't send out that information until one week before the arrival date. When the information did come, there was a map of the condo property, but no instructions on how to find the property. There was also no contact information for the owner or a local representative.

When we arrived at the property (around 6:00 p.m.) it clearly had not been cleaned: i.e. beds unmade, dirty linens in piles on the floor, stuff in the kitchen sink, etc. We found phone numbers in a notebook and called several of them but got no response. The owner called us back about ten minutes later and was very apologetic. He did get into action quickly and arranged for a cleaning crew to come right over. He also offered to pay for our dinner that night, which we appreciated.

The condo itself is a very strange layout. For example, one "bath" is actually a sink in the room with the bunk beds and an attached toilet and shower. The "master bath" is actually in the downstairs hallway, so you have no privacy when washing. The loft is up a very steep and tall ladder (accurately shown in the pictures) but is unsuitable for small children and a bit scary for senior citizens like us.

The furnishings are old and worn. A blanket on our bed was an old electric blanket with the bottom cut off. Some of the towels were ragged. One of the lamp switches sparked when you tried to turn it on; light over dining table had long run of very thin lamp cord. There was an alarm clock in the bedroom that wasn't plugged in and the outlet was behind a dresser which was too heavy to move. The lock box on the outside was difficult to work and requires a flashlight at night. There are no blinds or drapes on the sliding glass doors in the living area for privacy. Kitchen supplies were decent but not great. One night we had loud music coming through the wall from the next condo.

I definitely would not rent this condo again.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate reviews as they present an opportunity for improvement. We are disappointed with the way that this particular reservation started. There was miscommunication to our cleaners and the property was not cleaned. When notified, we attempted to rectify this issue immediately by contacting our cleaners for immediate cleaning and crediting back money to cover their dinner that evening while the cleaning took place. Our arrival information does include a google map of the surrounding area and we've never had issues with guests finding our home, we will look into improving this documentation. Our policy is not to send out check-in information weeks in advance to protect the safety of our current guests. For comparison, hotels do not give you access information until check-in. We will continue to provide check-in details a week ahead of time for our guests arrival but are more than happy to answer any questions regarding the location and directions to our condo. Regarding the towels and blanket, we have contacted our cleaning crew to dispose of damaged linens so that they can be replaced. This should not be an issue for future guests. Regarding unplugged items, many of our guests have phones/laptops/tablets which need to be plugged in to be charged and we have found that after most stays, the clocks are unplugged. Instead of removing the clocks, we have chosen to leave them unplugged and available for guests if they desire to use them. The sliding glass door does not have a curtain however given the height of the condo (highest point in complex) and the tree coverage off the balcony, plenty of privacy is offered. We do regret the condo not being cleaned in time and tried to do what we thought would remedy the situation. Thank you for the review and feedback as we look to improve our home for future guests.

Relaxing break in Tahoe

  • 5 of 5

Great location a few miles from Tahoe City, Condo is spacious and clean for the three of us and our small dog. We enjoyed the pool and played a little tennis on the courts. The owners communication was excellent throughout the process and we followed one of there recommended hikes along the Tahoe rim (Awesome). I highly recommend the Tahoe House Bakery on W Lake to pick up some amazing pastries for breakfast. We would rent this property again.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

This condo has a great location to all things in North Lake Tahoe! It is very comfy and clean. My kids loved the bunk beds and we all slept very comfortable. I was impressed by all the extra amenities of the condo too. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, this condo complex was under major outside construction (new roof, wood siding, etc.). This caused quite a bit of noise, but the owners were very apologetic and addressed the situation fantastically. It will look wonderful when it's done, it was just unfortunate that we visited right in the middle of it. I would recommend this place! We will be back!
