About Beth McKay

We've lived in Anchorage since 1984. We enjoy music and theater, dance, and outdoor activities. We love to travel.

Beth McKay purchased this house in 2009

Why Beth McKay chose Anchorage

This home is truly a special place. We are so close to everything, yet tucked back away from the street and in a natural setting. The architects who designed this house named it 'The Hidden House,' and it is an unexpected treat. We love art, and there are pieces by local artists throughout our home. The windows are large and in several rooms, you can see out of both stories of the home simultaneously, into the trees and sky.

Our home has many pleasant places to relax and gather. Our living room has a gas fireplace, and large windows with window seats. The kitchen has a breakfast table and looks out into the den, so conversation is easily held between the two rooms. The den has a piano, as well as a large screen television for relaxing and watching movies. As you head upstairs, you pass a wall of built-in bookshelves, that leads into a library sitting area. This looks out into the trees, too, and we have had countless hours reading or talking in this cozy spot. There are three bedrooms. One is 'the front room' which has a full-size fold out couch with a tempurpedic mattress. It also has a loft up above, where friends (especially kids) have stayed when sleeping over. There is a small deck outside of this room. The next bedroom is a child's room. It has a single bed with a trundle bed that can be pulled out. It also has a small loft, but it is best suited for playing.

The master bedroom is above the living room and has a beautiful large window that looks out onto trees and sky. It has a tempurpedic mattress also.

What makes this house unique

We have a treehouse with a spiral staircase, and french doors...a sweet spot in the trees, looking over the woods and Chester Creek trail. It's a peaceful perch for all ages. We've taken warm bowls of oatmeal up there for breakfast on a wintry morning,...and spent summer evenings looking out at the birds and squirrels. We've even had the joy of watching the Northern Lights from the little treehouse deck!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time that my family and I have stayed here. This time was just as good as the first time. We are here for a month on business and couldn't have asked for more!! Beth is great to work with and everything is as described. Can't recommend this house and owner enough. Great house and great location!!!

Fantastic retreat for our family!!!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location. This home is all it promises it is in the ad. Didn't want to return to Florida. Maybe the owner would be interested in a part time trade? Lol. So many kitchen amenities it made cooking on vacation great fun. Thank you so much for sharing your home. Cameron & Teresa

Very nice house for a family, extremely convenient to downtown and midtown, great price.

  • 5 of 5

The house is very nice and perfect for a family. it has two bedrooms that work well for kids (each has a loft) and then a Master bedroom. The house is very nice and has an interesting design. You can get to downtown or midtown in 5 minutes. The airport is no more than 15 minutes away (probably closer). The house is tucked back in the trees and can have mosquitoes around the yard but they were no problem at all inside. This would probably be a great place to bird watch in the Summer (although that was not why we were there). The house was clean and had all the necessities for dinner, cooking, etc. It is a very good price in comparison to having two hotel rooms for a family for a week. Beth was ready to answer if we needed anything and was helpful in ensuring checkin and checkout worked well.

Fantastic House

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a month on business but brought my family along. The house was incredible!!! Words and pictures cannot accurately describe this place. Tucked into the back of the property, it felt like we were staying in the middle of the forest. Magnificent views out of every window. Walking trails and a large park are right around the corner (very family friendly). 5 minutes from downtown Anchorage and 10 minutes the airport. The house is fully furnished with more than you will need. It felt like the owner moved out and we moved right in. Everything worked perfectly and there were more than enough linens and towels. The best part of the stay was dealing with the owner, Beth. She is always available and more than helpful. We will be returning next year and staying here again. If you need to stay in Anchorage and want to feel like you are home, this is the house for you. I cannot recommend this house and it's owner highly enough. I wish I could give 10 stars!!!

Business in Anchorage

  • 5 of 5

Two coworkers and I stayed at this property for a week while on a business trip to Anchorage. We booked last minute due to our original accommodations falling through with an Anchorage based property management company. This was very frustrating as we had booked months in advance and were not notified until days before our travels to Anchorage that our other rental had been double booked!! Long story short, I would not recommend using a property management company to book a rental. We had a much more pleasant experience dealing directly with Beth, the owner of this property.

Beth the owner was prompt and easy to work with. The house is centrally located with easy access to both downtown and the airport. There were plenty of stores and other amenities within walking distance.

This house is very unique and suited our needs well. The house was clean, possessed all the amenities we needed for our week long stay, and offered a comfortable atmosphere allowing us to enjoy our time.

I would highly recommend this home as it offers value and comfort, which you will not receive at a local hotel.

Felt like home

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a nice house for a family vacation in Alaska (my parents, me and sister - all adults) - requirements were at least 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and convenient location for exploring Anchorage and all the places around it. Found this gem on VRBO - was a bit hesitant at first because it did not have any user ratings - but sent in a request to the owner who responded promptly. We spoke on the phone and she was extremely friendly and helpful and answered all my questions, even though this was the first time she was renting her place out. Made the decision to book right after I spoke to her and we had a terrific experience. Here are some reasons why -

1) Great owner: Beth was super helpful before and after booking. Answered all questions, gave us detailed information about the house, neighbourhood, activities around.

2) Beautiful house: The house itself was, if possible, better than what the photos depicted. It is incredibly spacious, with a lot of sleeping space as well as common areas. Kitchen is well equipped. Place was clean and well maintained - everything worked as it should. The price was fairly reasonable given the size and amenities.

3) Location: Easy to find, 10 minute drive from the airport, very close to downtown anchorage (you will need a car though), extremely easy to get on the freeways to go anywhere around Anchorage. Beth gave us great information on nearby restaurants and grocery stores. It is also close to a park and walking trails.

Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a home away from home and a base from which to explore places in and around Anchorage.

Our home is ideally situated on a greenbelt, tucked back from the street. The Chester Creek Trail runs adjacent to the back of our home, and can be seen from our backyard tree house. The extensive trail system is accessible moments away from our home, and is a marvelous way to see the sights of Anchorage by walking, biking, or rollerblading.
