Renovated 6/13 from floor to ceiling & wow, what a view!
Stunning views and beautiful surroundings will be yours while you enjoy your stay on South Padre Island, Texas' best kept secret. The sand is white and fluffy, the surf is gentle, the open air beach bars serve up great music along with yummy concotions. I fell in love with the island the first moment I set foot and knew right then I needed a little slice of this paradise to call my own. I searched for about a year to find the perfect spot. I chose the unit I did because it has one of the best views on the island. Part of this is due to the fact that it is one of the older buildings on the island and consequently is set closer to the Gulf than properties built more recently. When I purchased in 2013, I renovated the condo completely. Even I was amazed at the total transformation of my beachfront condo. Everything has been redone, from the smooth walls and ceilings, to the 24" faux travertine porcelain floor tiles.
The kitchen features custom espresso wood cabinetry, eco friendly vetrazzo counter tops & glass tile backsplash, new stainless steel appliances and it's fully stocked with every needed kitchen utensil: blender, coffeepot, etc.
The bathroom has a luxurious oversized shower with bench seat, toiletry shelf & frameless shower door. Featuring a whimsical design with bubble tile shower flooring, mosaic tiles, blue martini glass lights, lots of counterspace and a vessel sink.
The bedroom features a queen bed & twin bunk beds with stairs, not a ladder. Yes, the kids can have their own beds! :) A full sized chest of drawers and large nightstand complete the ensemble.
Relax in the living area with a flat screen tv, dvd player, ipod docking station and a pull out queen sized leather sleeper sofa. The chairs are comfy leather too. I have also left a few games on the end tables & a couple books to enjoy while you're here, or jsurf the net with complimentary WiFi.
Most lights in the condo are on dimmers so you can create a soothing ambiance. Your unit is also stocked with plenty of bath towels and beach towels.
La Internacional has an onsite pool and spa with plenty of padded recliners and succulent tropical vegetation, an elevator, laundry facilities and beach access.
There are numerous things to do on the island: go see the sea turtles, take a dolphin cruise, climb the lighthouse, take yoga, get a massage, windsurf, surf, scuba dive, take a sand castle lesson, go see a band, play mini golf, go to Schlitterbahn, bungee jump, take a jewelry making lesson at Art Sea, the list just goes on and on. Rent a beach chair during the summer months or bring your own to enjoy the beach. The sand is great. So great, in fact, that South Padre Island hosts a sand castle competition every year that brings in professional artists from around the globe. The surf is small & the water at the shore shallow enough to allow the children to play in the water while you relax on the beach with a book and a drink. Yes!

About Renee Scandalis
For those of us that are drawn to the water and the beach, we have to return often to feel whole. Originally from San Francisco, CA I grew up going to the beach almost daily. I attended UC Santa Barbara and again, went to the beach almost daily. Then I moved to the Russian River in Northern California...same story. In 2005 I relocated to Texas and now live in Little Elm on the shore of Lake Lewisville. I am very fortunate to live on the water and the lake is beautiful, but still the ocean calls! I taught French and Spanish in CA but recreated myself when I moved to TX. I now assist people in buying and selling homes and land, primarily lakefront. I have two wonderful children that are yin and yang. Jacob, my serious 14 year old, plays the bassoon and is a voracious reader. Dex, my silly 9 year old, loves to play electric guitar and is craftier than McGyver.

Why Renee Scandalis chose South Padre Island
I have a serious case of wanderlust and have always traveled extensively. Some places I go to once, others many times, however when I hit the beach at South Padre for the first time just three short years ago I immediately felt at home. I found a way to go 4 times that year and the search for the perfect property was on. La Internacional is the perfect locale in my opinion. It is the closest property to the Gulf so the views are the best. Wanna Wanna is just next door and is a great laid back waterfront open air bar & grill. They have live music on the weekends and mellow tunes with a good sound system otherwise. Also in walking distance is the Laguna Madre Yoga and Meditation Center, where you can take not only Yoga, but Zumba, Pilates, Tango, & Hula. They have massage services, too! Many restaurants are also within walking distance, including Parrot Eyes, which I adore not just because the food is wonderful but also because there are always pelicans hanging out waiting for the fishermen to give them a treat. While it's a bit of a jaunt, I also walk up to Turtle Inc. It takes me about 10-15 min. What else do I have to do? I will jump on the Wave (see below) if I'm feeling lazy. It's really not to be missed. Learn about the Sea Turtles and get to see them up close. If you get there close to opening, they will even let you 'feed' one. Dolphin watching is also good on the island and the pod that lives here likes to play with the boats so they are easy to see. I could go on and on, but really, being on the island just feels good!
What makes this Condo unique
When I come to the island, I typically fly. The shuttle from Brownsville costs $1. Yes, that is not a typo. It is one buck. The Wave is free public transportation on the island and runs up and down the island. If you are not at a bus stop, no worries. Flag them down, they will stop. It doesn't get more laid back then that. If It goes to Port Isabel too, which you shouldn't miss while you're here. The pirate boat is a blast, the shopping quaint, the farmers market, yummy!

Perfect location on the beach
We came at the very end of March, over Easter weekend. We are a family of four. Our kids are ages 10 and seven. We were a little worried about South Padre Island, given that it is a college spring break hotspot. We found that this condo was in a perfect location for us. The beach in front of the condo is literally steps from the back door. The beach in this spot did get busy over the weekend. It was a big mix of people, including some other families, some college kids, and some retired individuals. Weekdays were much quieter. The sand on the beach is very soft, and great for Sandcastle building. The ocean was also great for playing and boogie boarding. We found to boogie boards left in the condo. Both had a crack in them, but they were enough to give us some fun on the first day. After that, we went and bought three new ones, which all survived the rest of the trip. We left them behind, so hopefully the next people will get a chance to use them as well. The condo itself is small, but well laid out. The bedroom was very dark, but we only used that for sleeping anyway, and we found the condo to be very quiet at night. The condo itself was clean, though the pots, pans, and kitchen utensils were rather disorganized and many seemed not quite clean. We just re-washed everything before we used it the first time. We Were perfectly happy with all of the beds and the bedding. Though there was a slight creak as many people have said to the queen size bed in the bedroom, it is really minimal and nothing that I would have noticed had others not commented about it. We were very happy with the number of and quality of the towels in the condo. There were eight Beach towels that were large and thick, and either six or eight, I can’t remember, bathroom towels, also large and soft. The shower in the bathroom was fantastic, great water pressure and very nice shower head. As it says, the building itself is older, but well maintained. The pool was honestly the warmest pool I’ve ever been in, and the hot tub was fantastic. Parking was available right out front in a lot for the complex, and for the couple of times that we needed to get a hold of her, Sheree was available and helpful. If we came back to South Padre Island, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Thank you for the review. I'm so glad you had a nice time!
Great location and view. Small but comfortable.
Worst furniture and utensils
The online furniture pictures are beautiful but they are cracked and did split, very bad to see and use them. Kitchen utensils are not cleaned and over used. I am feeling like I got cheated. Not worth for the money.
The chairs are being reupholstered next week.
The only good thing about this place was being able to walk straight out to the beach without worrying about parking or walking far while carrying all of our beach necessities. The inside of the condo is a little rundown. The chairs are peeling off because they are made of makeshift leather. The bed is not comfortable and squeaks EVERY time you move. By far the worst thing was the massive cockroach that was in the kitchen. Don't think we'll be coming back here again.
I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. Luckily I've never seen a cockroach in the condo myself, however in tropical environments they do flourish. There is monthly pest service which works as this is the first time in 3 years anyone has ever mentioned a pest problem. The chairs are being reupholstered. We are waiting for the material to come in. I added a box spring to the bed to alleviate the squeaking. I was at the condo to check on it earlier this month and found the bed to be quite comfortable.
The beach, the view...what a treat!
This is a charming little place with the most amazing view and the easiest access to the beach! If that's what you want...it's a small place but comfortable. I even love the old sense of the building but it's clean and well maintained.
It was easy to book and ready for us to move in. My soul is refreshed from being able to hear the ocean right there in the room and deck. I am already planning to go back.
Beach Front Prime Location
The number one draw of this place is the location! You are only about 40 yards from the water, with an amazing view!
This is a small condo but is very well layed-out for optimal use of every square foot. The recent renovation was very tastefully done! The colors and styles of the fixtures and decor are pleasing to the eye.
The beds are nice and firm with nice linens. There is an amazing amount of storage in all the clever drawer spaces in the bedroom. There are oodles of big fluffy towels for showers, pool, and beach.
Six people makes it tight in there - four would be ideal - the sofa sleeper, as is typical of sofa sleepers, isn't very comfortable and takes up most of the living room when in use. That wouldn't stop us, though, from renting the exact same place for six of us again.
We loved having a balcony that looks out over the Gulf with a pair of chairs. There are plenty of dishes and all the basic kitchen gadgets and appliances.
Last, but certainly not least, was the quick and responsive communication both before and during our stay! We loved working with Sheree!
We hope to stay here again!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! We'd love to have you back!
