The May House, 2-bedroom Dardanelle country home with a gorgeous view
Your home away from home not far outside of Dardanelle with 2 bedrooms. This delightful house features 2 queen beds, a cozy living room with a sofa bed, and essential amenities like AC, heating, and an iron. Imagine unwinding in the soothing ambiance of this quaint property after a day of exploring. Book now and enjoy everything this house has to offer.
Perfect for mountain bikers, small groups, and creative souls, this wonderfully weathered, modest home is a perfect place to hide away and work on your trail skills, art, or writing. Furnished with cozy decor, original local art, and well-loved books, the home offers guests an unbeatable sunrise over Mt. Nebo.
Please note: The May House is an authentic, country home located just 50 feet off a rural dirt road. We lean heavily into a nostalgic, granny-chic vibe rather than a modern, sterile aesthetic. Because it is a true country property with original finishes and window AC units, the house has a natural patina—and yes, the occasional drift of country dust and pollen that comes with dirt-road living.
While everything is meticulously deep-cleaned, vacuumed, and sanitized for your arrival (it's no doubt cleaner than our own home!), the interior has the endearing, rough-around-the-edges character of a house that has been truly loved. If you are *particularly* sensitive to dust, older floors, or the light aged ambiance of a vintage home, a modern hotel in town might be a better fit. But if you want a soulful, genuine country escape, the May House is waiting for you.

It was quiet and peaceful. The hosts were friendly and helpful. It's very close to State parks/recreation and 15 minutes from a store. We loved feeding the horse and donkey!

This little spot was a delight! The hosts are gracious and welcoming, and their furry companions are too! We had just about everything we needed in there and help if we didn't! We enjoyed a fire, a late night snack with a donkey and miniature pony, and a time we will never forget. If you want a slice of country charm complete with some friendly local companions, this place is hard to beat!
The house was clean, but smelled like it needed to be aired out. We bought some Febreeze and that helped a lot. The gnats and ladybugs were more than we expected.
I struggled a bit with this review. We had traveled to the area to visit with our grown children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. The location was a bit remote, the house was rustic and could use some fixes and furniture replacements. But when i think of our stay, the word that cones to mind is charming. We hosted our family, aged 47 to 2 without concern for breaking or messing up anything. The kitchen wasn't as well stocked as we are accustomed to but we managed to feed everyone well several times. The scenery was amazing at the foot of mountains and the hosts were kind and attentive. We toured their farm and learned so much! Were there things that could be improved? Yes. Would we stay there again? Absolutely!! Remember that this is a rustic house at a great price.

Thanks, Melissa! We were glad to have you. We agree, we'd love to be able to replace some of the furniture and flooring sometime. Keeping remodeling costs down, of course, is one of the many ways we're able to make the place affordable to long term travelling workers, budget conscious families, people looking for an affordable spot to finish creative projects, etc. When you get a chance, let us know what kitchen items would have been helpful! We actually removed some when a few people said there was too much! LOL. So glad to hear you'd stay again and are able to look past the lack of pristine accommodations, and see the authenticity we've striven for. <3 Come back soon!

What makes this property unique
✨ A Note on Our Vibe: Authentic Country Living ✨ Before you book, we want to ensure we are the perfect match for your travel style! If you are looking for a pristine, polished, modern hotel experience, the May House might not be your cup of tea.
Our Setting: We sit about 50 feet off a classic country dirt road. This means peace, quiet, and beautiful scenery—but it also means nature lives here!
The Air & Climate: The house is cooled by window AC units. While we deep-clean, dust, and vacuum with a vengeance after every single guest, folks who are *highly* sensitive to pollen, dust, or the natural, light musky character of an old country homestead might find the environment challenging. (We invite you to read the hundreds of positive reviews we've received here and the other popular short term rental sites to see what other people think!)
The Interior: We proudly embrace a "granny-chic," beautifully weathered aesthetic. Our original kitchen linoleum, for example, and stained concrete floors are scrubbed and sanitized, but they bear the honorable scars and character lines of decades of country life.
If you love original local art, stacks of old books, country dirt roads, native wildflowers and the nostalgic feeling of visiting your favorite relative’s homestead, you will absolutely love it here.
