Why Richard Dechene chose Long Lake
The Honeymoon has been helping guest create beautiful memories for over 100 years. It is located on the former Deerland Lodge property, a resort from the turn of the last century. It has been renovated to have modern conveniences with old world charm. An enclosed iron tub provides a perfect spot for a bubble bath after a long hike or day lounging on the dock.

Wonderful, Relaxing, Beautiful Scenery
My husband and I stayed in the Honeymoon cottage and enjoyed every minute. The cabin itself was clean and cozy, and the room stove heated the cabin as the temperatures dropped. We loved the views from the cabin, and having beach access for our kayaks was perfect. I used to stay at the Deerland Cottages as a child, so it was really neat to see the other cabins on the complex from a distance. Richard was very friendly, and met us on arrival, and really made us feel at ease instantly. We also loved being able to have a campfire. We will definitely be back again - I highly recommend this wonderful Adirondack getaway!
It was a pleasure to host you in Deerland again after so many years. We are so happy you had a good time. Come see us again next year!
Very comfotable place for a couple even though it had been over 59 years since our honeymoon.
We enjoyed day trips to interesting places. Since it was after Labor Day, many specialized tours were operating on a limited schedule. A very enjoyable activity was sitting on the screened in porch and enjoying the view and the activity on the lake. Unfortunatley, the loons only performed one morning for us but the sunsers were great.
Any couple should enoy the cottage, honeymooning or not. Richard is a very friendly fellow. He wanted to be certain we were enjoying ourselves.
We are pleased that you had a good experience. You might enjoy a visit in mid-summer next time when everything, including loon courting, is in full swing! Welcome back anytime.
Relaxing retreat with lots to do nearby
The cottage was great and loved being able to wake up to a beautiful view of Long Lake. Really enjoyed the short walk down to the hill to the beach and dock which was great on the hot days. We were also able to check out the Adirondack Museum which was a short drive away and kept us entertained during a cloudy patch. Can't recommend enough for a small family especially with a kid who loves to swim.
Glad your vacation was a success. Sounds like you did many of the best things to do in the region. Welcome back!
Wonderful Vacation Spot
We loved the screened porch. The cabin is very comfortable and nicely furnished. I liked the outdoor shower option, which is in addition to a full bath inside. The bed was very comfortable and the gas stove was useful in the mornings when it was a little chilly.
Great location for exploring the Adirondacks. We visited the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. Also, I visited the state campground at Lake Eaton, which is spring-fed, to rent a kayak and paddle on the lake. We were so glad that there were few speed boats and jet skis on Long Lake. It was so peaceful. I recommend taking the plane ride available near the town beach. We highly recommend this “Home Away!”
Aww, so happy you felt at home. The float plane ride is one of our favorite Long Lake things too. Welcome back anytime!
Cabin was nestled in a tranquil setting offering peace and relaxation.
The cabin style and decor is rustic-modern. It is clean, comfortable
with great modern amenities.
Loved being directly on the water with the use of a clean sandy beach and a dock to kayak from.
Sounds like you made the best of your Long Lake time. Come back and see us again!
A Slice of Heaven
We absolutely loved our stay at The Honeymoon! We celebrated our anniversary at this charming cottage, taking advantage of many local attractions. We visited Buttermilk Falls, climbed Coney Mountain, visited the Wild Center and Lake Placid. We enjoyed dinner at the Adirondack Hotel, which was a delight. The cottage has all the conveniences, the bed so very comfortable, and the screened porch was fabulous when the bugs came out. I regret it was not warm enough to use the outdoor shower....so cute! Richard was gracious and informative, greeting us upon our arrival. The real star here is the setting and the gorgeous views of Long Lake and the mountains! Long Lake is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, and the night sky, with unobstructed views from the dock, provided a dazzling display for us, complete with shooting star!! The serenity and solitude allowed the birdsong and whistling wind to be the soundtrack of our stay. Thank you Richard and Hillarie for sharing your slice of heaven with us! It was special to experience the magic that is Deerland once again. We hope to return soon! Terri and Jim
We are so glad you had such a good time. Welcome back anytime!
