About the property

Quaint farm cottage; sleeps 6 to 8.

Charming barn-style cottage on a 20 acre family farm in north central Florida, just west of Gainesville.

The cottage is on our family farm and has a nice view of rolling pastures. It is a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage that sleeps 6 -- 8. It has a queen size bed and a full size bed in the bedroom and a full-size sleeper sofa in the alcove. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a living room/dining room and 1 bathroom with a separate double sink area. There is a small storage loft in the bedroom. The cottage also has wireless internet, local t.v., a DVD player and DVDs, and a washer and dryer. It has a fenced yard with it's own entrance. Linens and cookware are provided.

We are located between Newberry, Fl and Trenton, Fl, 22 miles west of Gainesville, Fl. It is a quiet, convenient place to stay when visiting the University of Florida. We are only 5 miles west of the Easton Newberry Archery Center and Canterbury Equestrian Showplace. We are close to the Nature Coast State Trail (cycling, walking, horseback riding) and there are many springs in the area. We are 48 miles from Cedar Key, 53 miles from Ocala, 99 miles from St. Augustine/Crescent Beach, 128 miles from Disney World and 20 miles directly west of I-75.

The cottage is located on a farm. We have three horses, a small herd of miniature Zebu cattle and a flock of chickens (both hens and roosters). We also have a few farm dogs and cats. It is a great place to get away for some rest & relaxation and sit out and watch the stars at night!

About Rob & Tracey Francis

After moving to north central Florida to attend the University of Florida, we decided that we loved the area and wanted to stay. Eventually we purchased property and turned it into a small farm.

Rob & Tracey Francis purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Rob & Tracey Francis chose Florida

Our family loves living out in the country and the area has some rolling hills and a nice view. It is quiet and peaceful and at the same time, close to many attractions and a convenient distance to Gainesville.

What makes this cottage unique

We built the cottage for visiting family, but it isn't used much, so we decided to make it available as a vacation rental. It is a great place to stay whether you're traveling to the area for sports events, to visit the University of Florida, or just to spend some time in the country!

We also had fun feeding carrots to the friendly horses.

Fun Little Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Prancing Pony Cottage. It was very clean and had all the necessities we could ask for. The fire pit was the highlight, as we sat around it, roasted s'mores and watch the beautiful night sky lit up with stars. The kids really enjoyed the loft area as it served as a secret little hide-away. The only criticism is the water tasted bad. We had brought bottled waters with us, but ran out by the time morning came and we needed to make coffee. Overall, we had a great experience, and would stay there in the future.

Quiet, quaint, and relaxing...

  • 5 of 5

Great place for enjoying nature and getting away. This place was clean, neat, and had plenty of room for up to 8. Truly enjoyed this stay...only wish that we could have stayed longer.

Cute, clean farmhouse with loft

  • 4 of 5

The home was easy to find. The drive was lovely. The inside was clean and neat and pretty roomy for just 2 of us. The upstairs loft was a nice touch for kids or shorter people. Double sinks in the bathroom, tub and toilet were clean and worked great. Kitchen was small but quaint and well-stocked.

The bedroom had 2 double beds. I would have preferred a queen bed but our bed was comfortable. ACs took a while to cool but worked well.

The farm was cute but the main house is close and visible. Some more vegetation would give more of a private feel

We fed a horse and met a couple adorable mini cows and saw some ducks. That was a nice change of pace.

The price was reasonable and the home was pet friendly.

The wifi was free but slow. It was adequate for a night.

A hot tub would make it 5 stars.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review! We just wanted to clarify that the bedroom does have a queen bed. The bed on the right is a full-size bed and the bed on the left is a queen-size bed. The mattresses are new and the topper on the queen-size bed is also new, so the tags are still there that verify the size. We agree that a hot tub would be great -- maybe someday we will be able to put one in!

Our "holiday home"-my kids call it

Affordable, clean and peaceful place to stay with Your loved ones. Many things to do in surrounding area...but if You just deciding to sit on the front porch of the cottage, You'll find it pretty "entertaining" .

Off the charts beautiful and serene, an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top.

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming cottage, approx. 960 sq. ft with 2 bedrooms, a loft for the kids, front room, kitchen, full bathroom and laundry room with a washing machine and dryer. It is situated on a ranch comprised of 30 acres with horses, cattle, a couple of proud crowing roosters and clucking chickens, the silkies are very entertaining to watch scurry around the property. There is a small pond for the geese and ducks who display some entertaining quacking. We watched the cats stalking through the grass and some dogs who just want to lounge around the property. There is a small front porch for lounging during a beautiful day or watching the sun rise and set. I found 2 tortoises slowly meandering around the area and the horse pasture. The owners house is next door and we were able to come and go as we pleased to explore the area with complete privacy. Gainsville is an approximate 30 minute comfortable drive for shopping well known stores, family and high quality restaurants plus other areas of entertainment for families and a reputable medical center just in case. We would highly recommend this property as the price is so affordable and a picture is worth a million memories, remember your camera, relax and enjoy!
