Overview

About the property

Quaint farm cottage; sleeps 6 to 8.

Charming barn-style cottage on a 20 acre family farm in north central Florida, just west of Gainesville.

The cottage is on our family farm and has a nice view of rolling pastures. It is a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage that sleeps 6 -- 8. It has a queen size bed and a full size bed in the bedroom and a full-size sleeper sofa in the alcove. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a living room/dining room and 1 bathroom with a separate double sink area. There is a small storage loft in the bedroom. The cottage also has wireless internet, local t.v., a DVD player and DVDs, and a washer and dryer. It has a fenced yard with it's own entrance. Linens and cookware are provided.

We are located between Newberry, Fl and Trenton, Fl, 22 miles west of Gainesville, Fl. It is a quiet, convenient place to stay when visiting the University of Florida. We are only 5 miles west of the Easton Newberry Archery Center and Canterbury Equestrian Showplace. We are close to the Nature Coast State Trail (cycling, walking, horseback riding) and there are many springs in the area. We are 48 miles from Cedar Key, 53 miles from Ocala, 99 miles from St. Augustine/Crescent Beach, 128 miles from Disney World and 20 miles directly west of I-75.

The cottage is located on a farm. We have three horses, a small herd of miniature Zebu cattle and a flock of chickens (both hens and roosters). We also have a few farm dogs and cats. It is a great place to get away for some rest & relaxation and sit out and watch the stars at night!

About Rob & Tracey Francis

After moving to north central Florida to attend the University of Florida, we decided that we loved the area and wanted to stay. Eventually we purchased property and turned it into a small farm.

Rob & Tracey Francis purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Rob & Tracey Francis chose Florida

Our family loves living out in the country and the area has some rolling hills and a nice view. It is quiet and peaceful and at the same time, close to many attractions and a convenient distance to Gainesville.

What makes this cottage unique

We built the cottage for visiting family, but it isn't used much, so we decided to make it available as a vacation rental. It is a great place to stay whether you're traveling to the area for sports events, to visit the University of Florida, or just to spend some time in the country!

Cute little cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay while we were doing business in Gainesville. We only had to go into Gainesville a couple of times, so the distance wasn't a problem. The cottage had everything we needed to cook and relax. Our dog enjoyed the large yard, and we enjoyed being away from the city.

The only thing I will mention is that the WiFi signal wasn't very strong. It wasn't a problem for us, but it is something to be aware of if you need to use your computer.

Lovely cottage with pretty surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We really liked our stay at this lovely place! There is plenty of space both inside and outside. The beds are soft and comfortable. It is quiet here in the mornings, with only birds waking you up. Local springs and trail walks are close by. It only takes a short drive to get to a grocery shop, and around half an hour to get to Gainesville. Would for sure stay here again!

Not fancy but very comfy and clean

  • 5 of 5

This is my second time staying here. It's perfect for us since we have dogs and there is a huge fenced yard. Great country living. Even saw a gopher tortoise in the yard.

Fun Little Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Prancing Pony Cottage. It was very clean and had all the necessities we could ask for. The fire pit was the highlight, as we sat around it, roasted s'mores and watch the beautiful night sky lit up with stars. The kids really enjoyed the loft area as it served as a secret little hide-away. The only criticism is the water tasted bad. We had brought bottled waters with us, but ran out by the time morning came and we needed to make coffee. Overall, we had a great experience, and would stay there in the future.
