Bear Lodge is a classic log cabin home in Packwood, WA. Experience the magic and beauty of the Cascade Mountains and Mt. Rainier National Park in this beautifully built and immaculately maintained vacation cabin just outside of town. Have your ultimate mountain holiday in this 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home. It's the ideal place for larger family getaways or several couples on an annual ski or hiking trip.

Sitting on wooded property, this luxuriously rustic and cozy cabin and peaceful setting is perfect for your vacation in the Cascade Mountains. After a wonderful day exploring Mt. Rainier National Park (only 8 miles away), hiking, fishing, hunting, or skiing, cook a fabulous meal in the fully equipped kitchen (or grill on the deck outdoors!) before sitting down for an elegant meal in the dining room where every meal feels like a special occasion. Cozy up in the large living room with a fire in the stone fireplace and share stories with your friends and family about the day's adventures. Out on the deck, a large hot tub makes for a delightful evening of stargazing and quiet relaxation. After a busy day of biking, hiking, skiing, or fishing, soak in the tub and listen to the sounds of nature in the secluded 3 acre back yard. We have over 60 movies on DVD and over 20 board games for your vacation entertainment!

This home also has wireless internet access, so if you must do some work on your vacation, you may do so in the comfort of the cabin, on the porch or in the hammock while you enjoy the natural beauty of the area. As cell service is "spotty" in the mountains, there is a land line for your convenience.

We are family friendly and even have a Graco 'Pack N Play' and a portable booster style high chair for your use. Our cabin is a smoke free environment (except for use of the fireplace). All linens are hypoallergenic (down alternative comforters).

Bear Lodge welcomes the truly young, the young at heart, the great adventurer and those just desiring a peaceful rest for the mind, body and soul!

Ski - only 20 miles from White Pass a paradise for downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, sledding and snowshoeing.

Visit National Parks - 8 miles from Mt. Rainier National Park and about 80 miles from Mt. St. Helen's National Monument.

Hike - There are no end of trails to hike, rivers to walk, vistas to view, and flora and fauna to enjoy. Surrounded by wilderness, you could spend years finding new trails. Our cabin is a half mile from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest - one of the oldest National Forests in the United States. It encompasses 1,312,000 acres!

Fish - Great fishing on the Cowlitz River and Skate Creek, only minutes from the cabin.

Hunt - Excellent hunting in the forests surrounding Packwood.

Arrival time is 5:00 pm and departure time is 10:00 a.m. We try to be as accommodating as we can be (a little more difficult during busy seasons) with the arrival and departure times. If your group needs an exception with the arrival or departure time, please feel free to inquire with your desired time changes, we will do our best to accommodate.

Come, sit and relax on one of our porches and enjoy a superb cup of the locally roasted coffee, while watching the elk graze at Bear Lodge. Please, be our guest; let our home be your home for a few days, a week, or longer if you can. We would be delighted to share the beauty of the beautiful Cascade mountains with you – and a home that will help you create the kind of memories you will relish for a lifetime!

About Kristen

We are very active in our communities both in Packwood and where we reside and work in the Puget Sound area. We have 3 wonderful children that are very excited to experience and enjoy more recreational activities and nature-time in Packwood and all of it's surrounding paradise. Our family loves to travel and have had multiple pleasurable experiences with staying in vacation rental homes. We have enjoyed our vacation rental experiences throughout the country so much, that we made the decision to own our own mountain retreat and share it with others like you. We hope you find Bear Lodge to be just as relaxing, peaceful and exhilarating for your soul as our family finds it to be!

Great cabin getaway!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was a great getaway us! The scenery was beautiful and house was nicely furnished. It definitely had a cozy cabin feel to it. The only thing that was wrong with it was the hot tub went out of order from it's last guests and we didn't get to enjoy it. But other than that our stay was amazing!

Amazing house!

  • 5 of 5

This house looked really nice in the pictures with the log look. It's not just a look though, it has real log beam construction and is fun to see all the details. The main room and dining area feels bigger than the picture. There is a nice side room that is quieter. The kitchen is the best stocked we have had in the VRBO world (lots of plates, cooking utensils and even a good supply of spices and condiments). The elk are for real. The one drawback is if you need the trundle beds in the bedrooms, it gets pretty tight to open and close the doors.

Cozy cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5

The kitchen was well-stocked with ingredients and utensils. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was very cozy and clean. The kids appreciated the Netflix cartoons, and the adults appreciated reading by the fireplace as the rain poured outside.

Owner's Response: Dear Nicole, Thank you for your review of Bear Lodge! We are very happy that your and your group enjoyed your stay even with rainy weather. It's great that you were able to enjoy our kitchen and found the staples and utensils helpful. As a family who sometimes travels for vacation, we have been grateful for well stocked kitchens and have worked to make our cabin kitchen an easy place to arrive and prepare meals without having to stop at the store for spices and basic staples. The TV room with movies and Netflix is a favorite place for our family on rainy days and in the evenings after being outside all day and we always enjoy reading by the fireplace and are happy that you did as well. We welcome you back anytime and hope that you'll visit Bear Lodge in Packwood again soon! Kindest regards, Rachael and Bear Lodge

Special log cabin with mountain view

  • 4 of 5

A lovely spot, lovely lodge. The advertised "17" occupancy seemed a bit exaggerated, but it was a lovely place, big, spacious, well-provided with all the things you need, and very nice ambiance--all the logs, big fireplace, lots of games, lots of wood to make fires with, and so forth. Lots of cooking stuff and wine glasses. Oh, and the hot tub was nice, and the view from the kitchen is Mt. Ranier, very nice indeed when the sky is clear (as it was for much of our stay). That was also the view from the back yard. We had an extended family reunion, and one family stayed at a nearby lodge and motored over each morning and back each night, so we all got to eat and hang out together at Bear Lodge. Of course there are a lot of great hikes in the neighborhood. We had a great family reunion and would do it again.

And it was clean and well-maintained when we got there, and no headaches. We'd recommend it to anyone. Do be aware that "sleeps 17" means kids in the loft and some beds get hauled out from under other beds--it's not like sleeping 17 in a hotel or something! But with that caveat, we loved it.

Owner's Response: Dear Craig, We are happy that you enjoyed Bear Lodge and that it was a good fit for your family reunion! It's wonderful that you enjoyed the cabin and the amenities, we do our best to make it a comfortable and well equipped place for guests to stay while enjoying activities in the area. As a four bedroom cabin with loft, we have done what we can to comfortably sleep large groups. This does include the need for the use of trundle beds, folding mattresses, etc. We apologize if our set up didn't meet your expectations and truly hope that your family felt that it worked out well for your stay! We welcome you anytime and hope that you are able to visit Bear Lodge again! Kindest regards, Rachael

I the property was immaculate both inside and outside with beautiful views of Mount Rainier.

  • 5 of 5

I really want to mention the integrity of the owners in this review. It meant a lot to me that they were more than willing to make accommodations for my aunt who was traveling with us and has a disability. We have at other experiences elsewherw where it was clear we were not welcomed. As far as our stay went, the owners thought of everything here. There were even new toothbrushes available for guests that forgot theirs which was the case with my 10 year old. This was a perfect place to stay in so many ways. The only thing that was wrong was that we didn't book enough time to really enjoy everything provided at the property and the surrounding area. I guess we'll have to come back again in the future.

Owner's Response: Dear Kevin, Thank you for your kind words! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at our cabin and found it comfortable and accommodating. We try to think of all the "little" things (like extra toothbrushes, staples in the kitchen, plenty of firewood, etc.) that make a stay enjoyable from the moment you arrive. We are especially happy your aunt was comfortable and that our place was a nice place for her to enjoy! It would be wonderful if you can return to Bear Lodge for a longer visit, we look forward to hosting your family again. Warmly, Rachael and Bear Lodge

The community of Packwood carries a reputation of being a small town community with very BIG hearts! Packwood is just West of White Pass Ski Resort and the Paradise entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. Packwood's community residents are very friendly, personable and helpful. This special historic hidden away Pacific Northwest community at the base of Mt Rainier is a new paradise every time you experience it! Packwood and it's surrounding area is any and every outdoor adventure's escape to nature with all of the wildlife, waterfalls and flowers to see while hiking on the countless trails or choosing to canoe or white water raft the countless lakes and rivers. Everything this area has to offer is just amazing and unsurpassed. The wildlife and natural surroundings through out this area will be any photographer's inspiration to photograph from morning until night. During the winter wonderland times in Packwood the down hill and cross country skiing at White Pass and the surrounding area is some of the best and most beautiful in the world! White Pass Ski Resort holds the boasting privileges to the original home slopes of both past and present Olympic/World Class skiers and snow boarders. With White Pass Ski Resort completing its new incredible expansion, it is now offering even more incredible and challenging runs for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. If you enjoy your winter wonderland with some speed within 15-45 minutes of Packwood you can find miles and miles of both groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trails as well as some of the best snow pack in the state. This are holds true to some of the BEST snowmobiling in the state of Washington! Southwest Washington holds the bragging rights to Sno-Parks at Johnson Creek and Skate Creek, both relatively near the Goat Rocks Wilderness and further south at Orr Creek and Wakepish. Johnson Creek is a local favorite with its top sail, or high elevation areas! The Packwood area also offers some of the most amazing ungroomed trails as well, which appeal to a certain type of snowmobiler with a certain type of machine. By far, Johnson Creek and the 47/52 snow park are the two best Snow-Parks in the area that haven’t really been discovered by too many snowmobile-rs yet.
