*** Exciting update - August 2017****

We now have an elevator! Book your "shlep-free' stay today!

Our funky warehouse & former tavern turned costume factory turned fabulous Lincoln Park home can be your home away from home in Chicago.

If you're heading to Chicago and looking to be near downtown but want a more neighborhood experience with friendly, knowledgeable transcontinental hosts, our amazing, bright and sunny 1800 square foot loft just might be the perfect fit for you.

Located in Chicago's newest neighborhood, "SONO," at the crossroads of Lincoln Park - Old Town & River North - we are just two blocks south of the Chicago Transit Authority's Halsted Street bus, North Avenue & Division street buses as well as the North/Clybourn Red Line and Sedgwick Brown Line trains. In short, being just 2 blocks from the Red Line train, with easy access to three bus routes (one of which stops right out in front of the building) and the Kennedy and Lake Shore Drive Expressways, there is nowhere you can't get to in pretty much a straight shot.

My husband and I are just now completing this renovation as we downsize from the amazing dream home we created in the early 1990s to run our translation business and raise our family. Your home base in Chicago is the first part of what will ultimately be 4 urban loft homes in a former tavern & dance hall (1890s) turned costume & magic card factory (1950s) turned our urban dream home (1990s).

Our spacious 3 bedroom sleeps up to 8 guests in brand new Sealy Posturepedic beds. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a twin bed (sleeps 3), a second bedroom has a Queen bed and a twin bed (sleeps 3) and the third bedroom sleeps 2 guests in a Queen bed.

The living room has one convertible full size futon sofa and one twin day bed and can accommodate an additional 2 guests.

Two full bathrooms with either a walk in glass enclosed shower or a glass enclosed combo bath/shower, a to die for gourmet chef's kitchen with all of the accouterments that go with such a kitchen, a dining table that truly seats the same number of guests the apartment sleeps - this is THE home away from home you want for your stay in Chicago.

The neighborhood is great: we've got the country's second largest Whole Foods market around the corner with it's fabulous food court (5 dining options) and tables along the riverfront, a great neighborhood pub & wine bar, the newly opened and equally wonderful Mariano's Market (also with food options, a wine bar and live entertainment in the afternoons and early evenings), as well as great casual places like Nando's Peri Peri, Yard House, Earl's Kitchen, SoNo Woodfired, Burger Bar, Uncle Julio's, and Goose Island Brewery if you'd like to sample a local Chicago beer. We also have great sushi and pan asian food at Circle, a couple of terrific Italian spots (with outdoor gardens in the summer) and a number of other restaurant options within a 5 minute walk of the apartment. Shoppers will love being in the heart of the "little" Magnificent Mile, with nearby locations including Nordstrom's Rack, Saks Off 5th, World Market, Crate & Barrel, and everything in between.

There are also a couple of great live theater venues just up the street including Steppenwolf and the Royal George, comedy and improv at both IO Theater and Second City, the Archlight theater with first run and art house films, plus great bowling at the newly opened and really fun King's Bowl. The Mag Mile, Millennium Park, Chicago's amazing lakefront and Navy Pier, as well as the city's finest museums are all just minutes away - but you're still in a funky friendly neighborhood with great little local shops & cafes, as opposed to the high rise heartland.

Our proximity to everything and the great public transportation nearby means you don't need a car, but if you are bringing one there is plenty of safe, free parking on our street, and we have an an off street parking space you can add to your reservation (fee).

Check with us for availability (and be sure to let us know your dates, the number of guests) we'll get back to you quickly.

After 12 years of hosting guests from around the world in Athens, we're truly excited to be welcoming you to our original home in Chicago.

About Carole Heiman Kezios

Wow, who would have thought when I told my husband I wanted to buy a little pied-a-terre in his hometown, Athens, Greece, that I'd end up with the greatest accidental career of my life? Born and raised in Chicago, my love for travel was evident early on. Perhaps it was my arrival in the world, early one December morning, way quicker than my siblings had, in fact so quick we were still enroute to the hospital, and I still hold the title of youngest patient ever admitted to that north suburban hospital! (And thus, as a Sagittarius, characteristically smitten with wunderlust). I traveled my home country extensively with my family as a child, and was fortunate to have parents who encouraged us to study a second language young - while my language of choice as a child was French, my culture of choice was Greek - My earliest jobs were always in Chicago's Greek diners, my university days filled with hours playing backgammon in the cafeteria with my Greek friends, and my Eurail passes always started and ended my European backpacking holidays in Greece. So no one was surprised when I met Basil, a romantic writer but practicing translator and linguist, born and bred in Athens, but transplanted to Chicago, fell in love, and married him. While our life in Chicago was full, rehabbing a warehouse we purchased for house ourselves, our son and our growing Greek translation agency, I longed to plant some roots for our family in Basil's hometown. A small studio overlooking Mount Lykavittos was to be our Athens crash pad, but thanks to what seemed then an unfortunate turn of events, our home in Athens ended up being the beautiful Athens First Luxury Duplex. Larger than we had planned, offering it as a short term furnished rental seemed the logical way to afford it. Little did we realize that it would become so popular we'd be sleeping on friend's couches rather than in our own Athens home!

Why Carole Heiman Kezios chose Near North Side

Twelve years passed as our accidental Greek Vacation Rentals business grew, our son moved on to a life of his own, and our rehabbed factory dream home was suddenly too large for just the two of us.

We have been lovingly de-converting our original living space into 4 apartments, 3 fabulous vacation rental lofts and a one bedroom for ourselves.

What makes this condo unique

These fabulous homes are located in what is now considered "ground zero" for everything Chicago. We are at the crossroads of 4 great neighborhoods: Lincoln Park, Old North, River North & River West and an easy walk or short drive to Wicker Park, Bucktown, DePaul and Wrigleyville.

We are surrounded by great restaurants, bars & cafes, have two flagship supermarkets, Whole Foods & Marianos, and great live theater like Steppenwolf, the Royal George & IO Theater as well as the brand new Arclight Theaters & Kings Bowl.

We are a shopping mecca, whether you love browsing home furnishings & accessories, clothes, shoes or outdoor gear, we have something for everyone - so much so that our area is now known as "Little Michigan Avenue" to the locals.

And finally, our apartments: Our years in the vacation rental world and as travelers have taught us that while it is great to be able to sleep a larger group (6, 8, 10 or even 12 guests), it's also important that there be a comfortable space for everyone to relax together. Each of our homes features a large open living room area with seating for as many guests the property sleeps, and our dining room tables will always accommodate the same number - so meals can be enjoyed together.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

We recently visited Chicago as a family - primarily to see 'Hamilton'. Rather than stay in an expensive hotel, we opted to stay a little out of the centre and enjoy the comfort of an apartment with three bedrooms. This property was perfect for us. The area is fine - easy walk to a great Whole foods Market, good public transport around and a cheap Uber ride to wherever we wanted to go. We really enjoyed our stay and the place had everything we needed. It isn't brand new, but a good price point and a great place to relax after busy days and evenings out. Thank you Carole and Basil!

Magic Factory Lofts was the BEST choice for us in Chicago!

  • 5 of 5

Deciding to rent from Carole and Basil was the best choice our group could have made for our week long trip to Chicago. They added so much value to our experience by giving us recommendations about restaurants, transportation and events as locals that have owned this property for decades. We can't say enough about their willingness to help us create a memorable vacation. Carole took lots of time on the phone with us, answering detailed questions about the neighborhood and proximity to places we planned to visit.

We were three couples (aged 60-70) who enjoy walking and exploring the city by public transportation.

The location of the Magic Factory Loft was perfect - close to Whole Foods, restaurants and stores as well as close to the red line and the water taxi (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!).

The apartment had everything we needed for comfort. Plenty of towels, good beds, modern bathroom and kitchen with all types of kitchen gadgets, large fridge and freezer and complimentary coffee ;)

Carole and Basil went beyond when, at the last minute, a couple of us purchased some art pieces at a nearby estate sale only to realize they wouldn't fit in our carry on suitcases. Within minutes, Basil had created a cardboard box for them and was taking them to the Fed Ex office - wow! Amazing!

We rented a van and worried about parking which ended up not being a problem at all. There was plenty of unrestricted parking on the street. They also offered a garage space, but we opted to have it parked right in front of the door.

The wifi was good as well as cell service for all of our different phones/companies.

We were happy having owners that were on the premises....but not on top of us. They were there when we needed them - when we ran out of coffee and needed our 'prizes' shipped.

We will be renting from Carole and Basil again and sharing our 'find' with friends here at home.

Owner's Response: Thanks Tom & Tricia - Basil and I loved meeting you all and are looking forward to reconnecting - either on the west coast, back in Chicago or perhaps in one of our Athens penthouses!

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

11 of my closest friends and I stayed here for my bachelorette party and Carole was beyond accommodating. Located in the middle of everything, it was easy for us to tour the city. Carole showed us where everything was located and was easily accessible if we needed her. We would recommended Carole and her home to anyone in the future! Thank you, Carole, for making my bachelorette party so special! - Marissa

The neighborhood is great: we've got the second largest Whole Foods market around the corner with it's fabulous food court (5 dining options) and tables along the riverfront, a great neighborhood pub & wine bar, as well as Marino's Market and a Super Target for shopping. When your stomach growls food options abound from great casual places like SoNo Woodfired, Burger Bar, Uncle Julio's, Dinosaur BBQ, Nando's PeriPeri, Earl's, Yard House, Lyfe Kitchen and Goose Island Brewery if you'd like to sample a local Chicago beer. There's also a several great live theater venues up the street including Steppenwolf and the Royal George as well as comedy & improv stages at the I/O Theater. The Mag Mile, Millennium Park, Chicago's amazing lakefront and Navy Pier, as well as the city's finest museums are all just minutes away - but you're still in a funky friendly neighborhood with great little local shops & cafes as opposed to being in the high rise heartland. Sports fans will love our proximity to Wrigley Field (3 stops on the train) and Soldier's Field and the United Center are minutes by car or cab.

Our proximity to everything and the great public transportation nearby means you don't need a car, but if you are bringing one there is plenty of safe, free parking on our street, and we have an an off street parking space you can add to your reservation (fee).
