About Pankaj

We are two families living in Texas but whose hearts are firmly in the mountains of Colorado. We jointly made this investment as a property that our families could enjoy and are trying to offset the cost through vacation rentals. All four of us are engineering and software professionals who lead busy city lives and love to unwind in the mountains. Thankfully, due to excellent connectivity, we can also work remotely. So we love the idea of enjoying the great outdoors in picturesque South Fork without having to take vacation. And our children cannot get enough of all the activities that South Fork and its surrounding areas have to offer.

Pankaj purchased this house in 2013

Why Pankaj chose South Central

Our families love quiet, scenic vacation spots far from large airports and loud, boisterous crowds. We have rented homes in South Fork many times and loved it more and more each time. Every trip, we dreamt of owning a home here and now we do! This piece of paradise boasts a huge riverfront for fishing, rafting, or picnics, incredible vistas in every direction, hiking in the Rio Grande forest within feet of the front door, and skiing at Wolf Creek within 15 miles.

What makes this house unique

Skiiing at Wolf Creek, snow-shoeing, hiking, rock-climbing, fishing, rafting, snow-mobiling, 4-wheeling, hunting, or just relaxing on the front porch - South Fork has it all! This luxurious two-master-suite property is perfect for two families or families with grown children. It can sleep up to 14 people - 10 in the four bedrooms and 4 more in the Great Room and the loft. The town of South Fork offers grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, and other amenities. Wolf Creek Ski Resort is within 15 miles. Ski equipment can be rented in South Fork if required.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful house, great location and access to the river and hiking. We will most definitely rent again. The renting process was easy and the owners were extra helpful in making sure we received all the information in timely manner.

Mostly good .........

  • 3 of 5

Screen doors a must. Fought flies & chipmunks.

Kitchen poorly stocked with utensils. Not enough silverware.

Spent several dollars on mouse traps.

Wasn't aware there would be such traffic noise.

Chairs in front broken.

On the plus side: Lots of room, beds comfortable, great size, all in all a good stay. BUT SCREEN DOORS FOR SURE. Wanted the mountain air without sweeping out little chipmunks no matter how cute they are.

Thanks for asking.

Perfect Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, clean and cozy house. House was perfect for 2 families with 6 kids. Kids and adults had their own private spaces. Owner was very accomodating, flexible, and quick to respond. Bunk beds on the 2nd floor were a little loud and squeaky at night. We easily remedied this by moving mattresses to the floor. Easy distance to ski mountain.

great location

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to Colorado and wanted to see some of the area of my origin (monte vista) while being able to fish and have activities for the kids. At first I will say that I was taken aback a bit that the location was so close to the highway but after surveying the area I think this is a norm and considering all the other positives the highway was a non issue. There were 9 of us in the house and it was more than enough room. Pagosa springs is close as is Creede. Great waterfalls in both areas. Caught brown trout just below the house and used the firepit several times. Weather was great this time of year. I am sure we will be back again.

Picturesque Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were blown away by the picturesque setting of this beautiful home! Surrounded by mountains and situated on the Rio Grande river, this is the perfect Colorado getaway. Our days were filled with ATV rides that began directly from the driveway and straight into the mountains for the most amazing scenery and wildlife experiences to bbq-ing in the evening on one of the two decks overlooking the river. Even eating in the dining room with its' amazing views was awe-inspiring. One evening during dinner, we watched deer cross the river right in front of us only to watch them stop and graze a bit in the yard. A few minutes later a whole herd came running through! That is dinner and a show! Prairie dogs even greet you when you come into the neighborhood! So cute! The house itself was very well appointed. With 2 master suites downstairs, it was perfect for us. There were only 4 of us, 2 couples, so to say the least, there was more than ample space. The entire place was top notch with granite throughout, hardwood floors, beautiful furnishings and everything you could need to prepare meals, catch up on your favorite shows with Direct TV and a ROKU as well as WiFi since being between mountains, literally, isn't conducive to cell reception! We also spent some time riding up to Creede and over to Pagosa Springs, it seemed like anything and everything was easy access and provided more beautiful views around every turn. The local grocery store has everything you might need or happened to forget. The local shops also provide you with any information you could need or might not even have known to ask! They gave us information and maps about how to get to some old mining towns and out of the way places on the ATV trails to explore. It was such and awesome experience all the way around. We stayed 6 nights and it just wasn't enough. I recommend this home whole-heartedly as a place to begin the vacation of your dreams!

Great Place to Base Camp for All Sorts of Fun

  • 5 of 5

This property is a great location to be the centerpiece of any vacation experience in the South Fork area. We were in the house for 10 days. I was there with my entire family of 13 members. We were 8 adults and 5 grandchildren ages 2 to 10. The house had a marvelous view of the river on one side and great backdrop to a rocky bluff on the other. The house is somewhat isolated from the neighbors and is currently the last house on the lane. This provides a great place for the kids to play and since it is a dead end road we never saw any traffic that was not from our group. There was ample parking for 4 vehicles. The house provided plenty of area for this big group. The cell coverage was outstanding and the Wi-Fi worked great. I had to work on a couple of days and it provided a great office on the back porch for me to set up a small table and work overlooking the South Fork of the Rio Grande. Lastly about the house it has a fire ring located close to the river and provided a great place in the evening to have a campfire and roast marshmallows and make S’mores. The house was well equipped with a full kitchen and we prepared most of our meals.

If you love to fly fish the opportunities were literally just feet from the South Fork of the Rio Grande and minutes away from Beaver Creek or Park Creek. We caught fish in all these places and enjoyed a really short trip back to camp. We spent another day at Million Reservoir located literally 10 minutes from the house. It is stream fed (Mill Creek) lake just off Beaver Creek Road. It was a great place to spend the day with the grandkids catching fish on worms. We picnicked and just enjoyed the cool air and beautiful water.

We spent other days driving to Big Meadow Reservoir, Pogue Reservoir, or day trips to Pagosa Springs. Pagosa Springs was a short 1-hour drive to a great place to spend the day shopping, horseback riding, or seeing the Wildlife Park. We also went to Creede one day and part of our group loved the Last Chance Mine Tour. I would highly recommend it. The last full day our party had dwindled to 4 so the remaining members took a day trip to Lake City. It was a beautiful drive and the food was great in Lake City. The drive was about 1.5 hours but it seems much shorter. Before leaving make sure and visit Lake San Cristobal.

If I travel to this area again then I will definitely utilize this house if it is available. Great location that really exceeded my expectations.
