About the property

4 Bedrooms, 3 bath+1 bed Apartment w/bath & kitchen, sleeps up to 16, mtn views!

Beautiful Lodge in a great location! This is a unique home is only minutes from the entrance to Yellowstone Park. It is really well set up for larger families, and has the charm and character for a great 'Montana' experience.

The Lodge is well equipped, with 4 bedrooms and bonus rooms along with an apartment that has its own kitchen, bathroom with tub, and bedroom plus sofa-sleeper couch. The home has two levels and lots of space. The first floor has the kitchen, living and dining rooms, master bedroom, wash room, and access to the attached garage and apartment. The second floor has an open floor plan with 3 bedrooms and a family room with foosball table, couches including 2 sofa-sleeper couches, and superb views! This lodge has all of the comforts of home, including a spacious living room, a pool room, a full kitchen and full-sized washer/dryer, large screen TV's, wireless internet, a deck with barbecue grill, and a large yard that has children’s playground equipment.

The apartment is connected to the main house and is included with the rental. The apartment has a bedroom with a queen bed, a queen sofa-sleeper couch, a full kitchen with a full size fridge, and a large screen TV, and a full bathroom with tub/shower combo.

The neighborhood offers easy access to Hebgen Lake and the mountains of Gallatin National Forest. The home is only 7.5 miles on a paved highway from the town of West Yellowstone, including a short 1/4 mile drive down a graded, maintained dirt road. It sits in a secluded area at the base of the mountains forming the Continental Divide, just down the road from the most centrally located entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

It is a small, quiet subdivision that is surrounded by Forest Service land. The Madison Arm of Hebgen lake, with a boat ramp, beaches, and swimming, is less than 4 miles away. All of the Park's animals also live and travel through the area, so it is not uncommon (depending on time of year) to see elk, moose, bear, fox, wolves, eagles and many other animals nearby. Groomed Forest Service snowmobile trails are accessible from the boundary of the subdivision, and snowmobiles can be ridden from the home in the winter. Cross country and back country skiing opportunities are also available right outside the door.

Reserve soon, because this home fills up early!

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for a 5 day trip we made to Yellowstone recently. The property is 10-15 minutes away from the town of West Yellowstone where you can get groceries/supplies. Many cabins of this size are poorly maintained but not this one. It does appear that the managers have invested in upgrades/upkeep. The kitchen is well stocked (plates, spoons/forks, cooking utensils, coffee mugs, glass cups, blender). Before you head out into town to get groceries, I recommend you to check if there is anything left over by previous renters (sugar, salt etc). There is a large washer/dryer . The property overlooks a vast lawn/open space. It was great to start the morning drinking coffee on the outdoor deck. The property has lots of board games and pool table/foosball for the end of the day when you are back from yellowstone. Cable tv is also available, but a few more dvds would have been appreciated (I realize tough to please everyones taste). In a large property like this internet can be spotty, but it was a blessing in disguise as it helped us enjoy the property and more importantly yellowstone. I had strong cellphone reception for Verizon. Rooms were all very comfortable and clean. Bathrooms had shower gel, handwash and towels

All in all we had a very pleasant stay!

Great stay

  • 4 of 5

The home was great for 12 of our family members. The open lay out and size made it enjoyable in the evening. There are a few items which are house upkeep and maintenance which need to be taken care of but when we called they were very responsive.

It was a great time for all of us!

great location

  • 5 of 5

After driving 5 hours from SLC we were greeted in the middle of the night

by a pack of deer and a fox. Unfortunately the fox visited only once

since then during the day light, but yellowstone is full of wildlife which

is 10 min drive. The house itself was clean, warm and quiet.

Kitchen is fully stocked. TV has plenty of channels for kids and adults to

choose from and drawers had a few of my favorite board games. Despite later

September the water was instantly hot in the mornings.

Due to the shape of the house the walls in upper rooms have openings at

the top and don't provide much noise isolation, but after hiking all day

everyone was going to sleep at the same time, so it wasn't a problem.

On the last day my son became friends with neighborhood kid and they

went to play on backyard swing and slide. I wish we could stay longer.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, and so glad you enjoyed your stay! The upstairs bedrooms now have fully covered and insulated ceilings, which makes the rooms fully enclosed and private. Also, there are now electric space heaters in each bedroom so that heat can be controlled independently.

Not suitable for couples or cold weather

  • 2 of 5

We are avid travelers and have been to West Yellowstone many times. We were highly disappointed in this property. The temps were what is typically expected in December and no where in this listing did it say the master bedroom and bath have NO HEAT and a leaky sliding glass door. We were extremely cold and there was no way to warm up that part of the house. We had 4 couples and there was zero privacy with the partial walls upstairs and the master bedroom door having to be left open to get any heat from the main house. We were told the garage was not accessible after arriving and the freezer would not make ice. This place is not suitable for cold weather what so ever nor couples. I'm sure it's fine for a guys fishing trip. The price of this house for an uncomfortable winter stay was far too high. I also do not recommend it if you have kids or teens, as there is only one TV in the common areas that is very small and only one sofa that can view it. It's just not designed for a large family. We would never choose this property again in the winter. Given the distance to the town of W Yellowstone, you must have multiple cars available if you have a big group too.

Owner's Response: We appreciate that you took the time to leave a review. However, it is unfortunate that you did not inform us of some of these issues while you were here, and that you did not mention that our maintenance man was there within a half-hour of your arrival and phone call to remove the small snow drift that the wind had created in front of the garage door, and that he also examined the ice maker and determined that it likely couldn't be repaired during the stay, but that it would be fixed as soon as we could get an appliance repairman scheduled, along with providing cube trays for your stay. We have had other renters find the central heat very satisfactory in keeping them comfortable during their stay, and had we known there was a problem for this renter we would've brought portable electric heaters for each of the rooms. However, to be sure all of our guests are comfortable, there are now portable electric heaters in each of the bedrooms. The upstairs bedrooms also now have fully covered and insulated ceilings, which makes the rooms fully enclosed and private. The vast majority of our renters have been very happy with the accommodations, as evidenced by the feedback we've received and by the positive reviews from large/extended families that typically stay in the home. The home was designed for a large family and has lots of living space, including the attached private apartment that can accommodate 4. However, it all depends on your expectations, which is why we have lots of photos and a detailed description of the home, independent reviews, and the fact that we are readily available to answer questions about the properties we manage before you book. We also find that most reviewers appreciate the scenery, solitude, and wildlife that being a short distance (7.5 miles/15 minutes) from the busy town of West Yellowstone provides, along with the fact that there are almost no rentals of this size available within the town. Please contact us for more information about this and other homes we manage. We look forward to having you stay with us!

Great property for a good price

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here with a family of 9, it was perfect for all of us to fit. The one call out is that one of the sofa beds is not sleepable. There is no way I would put my kids or myself on it. The other sofa bed however is brand new. The glass door broke the day before our arrival so nothing they could do about that. They did however move the grill over by the front door and there are also sliding doors off the main bedroom. It is like any cabin a bit loud when everyone is running around but I have found that to be true of most cabins I have rented. Overall this is a perfect cabin for a family get away plenty of space to play games, enjoy a movie, or hear the wolves howling outside(which we did). The only complaint I would have is no fire pit, but really for the price this place cannot be beat the kids loved it and we would for sure stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for leaving a review! A new sofa-sleeper couch has been ordered and will replace the one that cause the complaint. In the meantime, a new memory foam mattress pad has been installed on that couch which makes it much more comfortable. As is noted in the response to the next review, the sliding door has been repaired and we again apologize for any inconvenience it caused. Please note that there is a fire pit, just off of the back deck near. It is rock-ringed and has flowers growing in it (tulips - apparently they like the ash) The flowers are nice, but they weren't planted and guests are welcome to use the pit, even if it means sacrificing the flowers! There are plenty of wildflowers around to make up for the loss, so please enjoy, and please call us if you have any questions or concerns during your stay. Thanks to these renters for staying with us, and we're happy to hear that you enjoyed the lodge!

Reasonable Rental

  • 3 of 5

Lionshead Lodge was a very reasonable and comfortable rental property in the West Yellowstone area. There is quite a bit of space to spread out and for many people to be comfortable in one property without feeling confined, and ample sleeping quarters are provided. The kitchen is quite nice and large and the dining areas are extremely accommodating and homey! The pool table area is lovely and the master suite is very nice with a very spacious and updated bathroom (with a jetted tub!!) Access to West Yellowstone is great and you can make it to town in an easy 7-10 mins and into Yellowstone Park West Entrance in about 15 minutes from house!!

However, there definitely are some concerns/issue we had while staying at the property which most travelers would like to be aware of:

1) All of the bedrooms upstairs have only partial walls - the walls on all of the room upstairs do not go all the way to the ceiling, so while there is technically separation, there is NOT technically privacy. Unfortunately this would have been an important detail to know ahead of time as we traveled with small children who needed more privacy to take naps, and therefore, naptime was practically IMPOSSIBLE while here - the noise from downstairs easily drifted upstairs and right into the rooms:(

2) The sliding glass door off the kitchen was boarded up while we were there, so an INCREDIBLY HUGE disappointment, as a large part of our decision to rent this property was the outside access and deck. While this issue was not necessarily forseable, the issue was not able to be rectified while we stayed there, so make sure it is fixed if you are planning to rent it soon!

3) The outside area, while very spacious, was not maintained very well, and while we understood this is a "wild" area, it made it very difficult for our little ones (2 yr olds) to actually get out to the swing set to play - the grass was pretty tall to wade through.

A lovely property and definitely has great potential, but we would not rent it again if we came back to West Yellowstone.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review; we are happy to hear that you had an enjoyable stay. Regarding the upstairs bedrooms, that is now more clearly noted in the description of the property, but please also note that there have been almost no renters who found the open ceilings in the upstairs bedrooms to be a problem. As the renter pointed out, many properties in our area leave things a bit wilder as far as lawns go, some even going fully "Western" by not mowing the lawn at all. We like to strike a nice balance between totally manicured and totally wild by keeping things mowed where they are likely to be used. This year, we had an exceptionally wet spring which meant that grass was growing much faster and thicker than usual, and because it was seldom dry enough to mow until mid-June it was admittedly longer at times than we'd have liked. Unfortunately and fortunately, mother nature often calls the shots around here which means we do the best we can to work within the reality of the often unpredictable weather and the conditions it creates. We try to keep the lawns as well tended as possible, but some years don't allow for perfection. If the lawn is a particular concern for your group, especially if you're staying in May or June, please let us know and we can have the lawn mowed extra short before your arrival, weather permitting. The broken door was due to an accident from a previous rental and required a special order custom sized piece of glass to repair. The glass had to be ordered and delivered from Bozeman (90 miles away) and scheduled for an install between renters. We deeply regret any inconvenience it caused for the renters who stayed while it was being repaired, but accidents do happen from time to time and repairs take a bit longer in our very rural and remote area. Thank you for your patience and understanding if their are any out of the ordinary problems - please know that we'll let you know before you arrive and will be doing everything we can to have things fixed as quickly as possible. Our cleaning crews do an inspection of the property with each turnover, but If there are any maintenance items that you notice while you're here, we'd love to hear about it so we can get things replace or fixed as soon as possible and make your stay the best it can be!
