Be careful if you stay at Julie's Rock House. We are huge MCM buffs and we were looking forward to several activities in the Palm Springs area, but have literally had to tear ourselves away to do those things now that we have arrived. The peace and contentment you will find here is indescribable. We did manage to leave for a couple of hours yesterday but we raced back after dealing with civilization. Yes, this place is that special!

Do yourself a favor - head over to Jensen's and get some fish, fresh vegetables and fruit, a bottle of wine and some local grapefruit juice. Grab a couple of cupcakes from Over the Rainbow and call it a day. Get back to the Rock House as quick as you can: hiking out the door, sunsets, birds, critters, mountain views everywhere, bonfires, a sense of place and history, incredible rock features, privacy and QUIET. Julie's place has forced us to leave the proper Palm Springs experience for another trip. That is, if we don't decide to just come back to the Rock House instead!

Magnificent views, solitude, peaceful with a palette on which nature plays with light all day long.

We extended our stay two additional days in order to immerse ourselves in the beauty and quiet of the space. One of the highlights was watching the sunrise paint the hills each morning, while a gentle breeze stirred the desert air and introduced us to another day. Hiking trails within walking distance offered many opportunities for expanding our initial impressions. The little cottage was fully equipped and comfortable in every way, making eating out completely unnecessary. We found that all we really wanted to do was stay close "to home" and only venture out to restock our pantry. During our 5day stay we met a very interesting gentleman who oversees the land who helped with the fascinating history of the property. His descriptions and stories brought the folklore to life, and it became easier as we walked the land and watched the sky and mountains change, to imagine what life for the previous custodians of this beautiful land may have found so special too. As an artist myself it was not hard to imagine the pace of a sane and simple life unfolding in these hills. Our 5 days did more to instill peace than weeks of more rigorous travel to other environs. We recommend it to anyone looking for an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and find the peace and quiet necessary for renewal and replenishment. Listen to the breezes and the soft desert sand beneath your feet as you unwind. Life is short, enjoy!

This is why we VRBO

It's taken me nearly 6 months to get around to writing this review, and I'm conflicted. I want to share how fantastic this place is, but at the same time I want to keep this secret to myself!

This place is exactly what makes VRBO special - it's a totally unique property with tons of charm and history, that we'd otherwise never have had a chance to experience.

The home itself is spacious for 2 while being cozy and romantic. It's very tastefully and creatively appointed. It is stocked with everything anyone might need, and we had no problem cooking in for our breakfasts daily, and one dinner when we arrived. The towels that we read about were indeed as fluffy as others have described, and overall the place was just completely charming. Thoughtful details throughout made it a really fascinating and special place to stay.

Julie herself was a fine hostess, answering all our questions and providing all the information we needed, while giving us total privacy. The entire property was immaculately clean, and everything from sinks to stoves to refrigerator and the bathroom worked perfectly. There was space to hang clothes in the closet, a set of shelves / dresser, full-length mirror, and a fantastic shower.

In addition to the structure itself, the location is fantastic for anyone who likes seclusion and privacy. Once the sun went down, we felt we were in our own universe. The birds and flowers in the morning were beautiful, as were the views of the mountains out the window while laying in the bed.

And yet, while secluded, it's only a few minutes from old-town and from new shops / restaurants. We really found it to be a perfect place to retire to after a day out, as well as after nights out for drinks and music.

We cannot wait to stay again, and would recommend to anyone without hesitation. Our gratitude to Julie for sharing this gem of a property with us. We will be back!

Incredible location and patio

Wonderful experience! Everything provided (even some fire wood) for a great weekend. Host was extremely responsive to any questions about access and amenities. Location was a ten min trip to downtown palm springs but we hurried to get back to enjoy the slience and fire pit

Your rock house at Happy Canyon Ranch is the best get-a-way with hiking and mountain biking out your front door.

This historic site was built between 1929 to 1932 and will be your totally private oasis. The famous Indian Canyons and the Indian Canyon's Golf Resort featuring 36 holes of golf is just up the Palm Canyon Wash from your private residence. Here is a link to Palm Springs Life Magazine May 2013 Issue about our wonderful neighborhood -

The rock house at Happy Canyon Ranch is the perfect place to unwind and have total privacy.

The patio with 360 degree views of the city lights and the mountain is 375 feet of patio space for your enjoyment. There are 2 lounge chairs, two tables with 4 chairs each and side tables for beverages. Two (2) umbrellas for shade.

Rock House at Happy Canyon Ranch Restaurant Suggestions:

I have eaten at Morgan's at the La Quinta Hotel & Resort and it is very nice, but a :25 minute drive.

Closer and romantic I would suggest Le Vallauris

We are very spoiled in Palm Springs. Locals in Palm Springs do not drive to Palm Desert and Palm Desert Locals do not drive to Palm Springs. But you my guests are welcome to drive & explore on your vacation. When my children and I go to La Quinta we stay at the La Quinta Hotel kind of a Staycation.

We have excellent restaurants not mentioned so my favorites:

#1: Spencer's 3 course lunch with coffee - $19.50 ++

#2: Sherman’s Deli - Potato Latkes with Pastrami & Apple Sauce & Sour Creme

#3: Everywhere Else Downtown
