Discounted! We've lowered our rates for summer of 2017, so come visit Plymouth. This charming saltbox home sits high above Long Pond, commanding a view of one of the largest lakes in southeastern Massachusetts. This enchanting summer home brims with antique charm, from the original wood-paneled walls to marble-top dressers and hand-woven rattan rocking chairs. The house offers 6 bedrooms, a large family dining room, living room, lots of lawn for outdoor games, and a huge deck built around the trunks of oak trees, giving the porch the feeling of a tree house. Winding steps through the woods lead to a private dock and boat house with kayaks and other items for enjoyment on the pond. The warm waters of Long Pond offer great swimming, boating and fishing in a private, safe setting. The house is a short drive to the coast, and close to Myles Standish State Forest, which offers miles of trails for biking, hiking, canoeing and camping.

Whether curling up in a nook with a good book, sitting on the deck overlooking the pond, or napping in the hammock, the house offers restful seclusion for summertime visitors; at the same time, the house is convenient to South Shore attractions and Cape Cod, which is six miles to the south. While maintaining its rustic feel, the house is updated with wireless internet, blue tooth radio to play your own music, and washer and dryer. For children, there are board games and more. You will have plenty to keep yourself entertained no matter how long you stay. There are four bedrooms in the main house, and two bedrooms -- each with two twin beds -- in a separate guest house with an outdoor shower. This is a home for rest and relaxation -- parties of any kind are not permitted. Please note that this is a non-smoking house, and we do not allow parties on the property. It's a very old house and needs to be treated with care!

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

My family (ages 9-75) rented this house for the last week of July and absolutely loved it. The house is charming and beautiful and the view of the lake was absolutely stunning. The huge deck was one of our favorite parts. There are a lot of steps to get down to the lake, but the hike is absolutely worth it. The lake is great for boating, fishing, and swimming. We got a ton of use out of the kayaks and canoe and other fun water toys that are included on the property. The house is large and had plenty of room both inside and out. There is a large yard perfect for football, bocce ball, and other fun outdoor games, also included with the house. There's even a hammock in the shade of the big, mature trees. It is only ten minutes from downtown Plymouth where you can see Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower II, and lots of shops and seafood restaurants. We also took a whale watch and a ghost tour in Plymouth. There's lots to do (although you might just want to spend all your time relaxing on the gorgeous deck) and only about an hour from Boston, too! It was a truly wonderful experience to rent from Theo. He was helpful with any questions we had and even sent us flowers upon arrival. I would absolutely recommend vacationing on Long Pond. It was one of my family's favorite vacations to date. We didn't want to leave!

Great Place For Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family vacation that included ages one through 70. The house was clean and well-maintained and has a lot of charm and character. On the sun porch there is a box full of toys that were great for the children, ages one, two, and three. There were puzzles and games for the adults. Everyone loved the very large yard where we played bocce and relaxed in the hammock. The kids could run around all they wanted as the yard is not near the road.

We ate almost every meal on the huge deck, which always had both shaded and sunny spots. The views of the uncrowded lake are beautiful. From the deck we saw a turkey hen and chicks, a Bald Eagle (four times, perched close to the deck), and a glimpse of a fox at the edge of the yard.

The house is on a bluff above the lake, with a stepped path from the yard down to the dock and boat house. We thought we would have to carry all three children down and back, but the two older ones had no problem with the steps. The lake itself is clear and clean, with a sand and pebble bottom that was perfect for swimming, even with the little ones. We spent a lot of time on the dock and small deck, and used the canoe and kayaks stored in the boat house.

There is a notebook in the living room with suggestions on where to go and what to do. The area is full of historic attractions, antique shops, and seafood places to enjoy. There are paths and dirt roads through the woods around the lake for pleasant walks. For every member of the family there was never any shortage of things to do.

In short, we had a wonderful week.

Charming Home with a Beautiful View

  • 5 of 5

I held a photography retreat here and had an incredible time. The home is very large and fits a lot of people comfortably. It feels very warm and welcoming, and the wood paneling and shingles inside added a cozy New England touch. The view of the lake is incredible, and the deck is huge and built around the trees on the property so it feels like there's a little forest on the deck, providing you with lots of shade. The boathouse area down on the lake is gorgeous, too. The guest house is very cute and charming, but it did get a little chilly in there at night in late May and when we plugged in a space heater it tripped the breakers, so I would recommend using the guest house later in the season when it is warmer, or until the electricity in the guest house is updated. We had an amazing time on the spacious property, and enjoyed relaxing in the hammock near the blooming lilacs all around the property. Really a gem of a home!!
