Beautiful rambling 100+-year-old fully restored farmhouse in pastoral country setting on a few acres. One of the original homesteads in Paonia. Quintessential rural seclusion with an easy walk to town. Big trees and yard, sweet front porch, pocket doors, wood floors, nice-sized rooms and lots of fresh air and sunshine. 1 block away from the river and Paonia library, 3 blocks from center of town. We have extra bikes available for use during your stay and plenty of parking.
Everything about this house, our hosts, the town and area is just fantastic if you want the perfect rural "Mayberry with an artsy twist" experience - donkey and a variety of farm animals next door, an abundance of bird life, amazing fall colors, regular evening visitations of deer and elk, walk to town, completely peaceful surroundings and so close to amazing mountain drives with a ski resort around every turn (it sure seems like it). The house has a genuine historic feel and sounds, the only thing missing is a ghost in the attic - maybe he's there and just wants to enjoy the scenery like you. We will definitely return.
Nothing but superlatives for Christina and Barry’s charming, comfortable and lovingly appointed house, inside and out. Such a wonderful visit, we wished we could have stayed longer.
We had a three night sisters-plus-niece reunion and could not have been happier with the accommodations! The kitchen was so well equipped and set up for all of us to cook together, the bedrooms were so luxuriously comfortable and the whole house was so attractively decorated. We felt right at home! Paonia was a great place to spend a few days. We went to wineries, walks, bike rides, made a trip to hike along the rim of the Black River Canyon, and enjoyed hanging out on the front porch at the end of the day to watch the sun go down. We also really enjoyed meeting Christina and Barry, who were extremely helpful and friendly. We could not have been happier, would recommend this stay to anyone, and really hope to return some day!
Christina and Barry were so easy to work with. They have done a marvelous job keeping this property authentic and beautiful. Lots of nice little touches that made it a most memorable stay. We WILL come back. A superb rental!!
We had an amazing stay at this lovely country home in Paonia, CO!! We were in Paonia to celebrate our wedding and used the house as accommodations for the brides family (me). It was truly perfect! The house is so pretty and very clean with TONS of character. We all slept like babies in the comfy beds! The yard is huge with lots of shade to lounge or play ball. There are even donkeys, goats, and miniature horses in the neighboring yard! Seriously adorable! The house is a pleasant walk to town and only a couple of blocks away from a yummy breakfast spot with the best biscuits and gravy ever! Christina and Barry were fantastic hosts and delivered above and beyond every request that we had! They were absolutely lovely, and made the days leading up to our wedding so special and stress free!! We highly recommend staying in their home! We will definitely return...again...and again...and again;) We could not have wished for more! PERFECT!
Four of us, all family members, shared the house for 5 days. We loved it's charm and the devotion to make it close to its
original beginnings....Tall ceilings, big windows, large kitchen and genuine creaking floor boards.
We appreciated the quiet, the peaceful surroundings, comfortable beads and very clean house. The style of the furnishings is
not Hilton Hotel high end. It's a comfortable "farm" style. So the 4 star rating is our personal love of the house and the
feel of the "country" and charm of Paonia. In other words it is what it is, it's not intended to be a boutique hotel.
We visited wineries, hiked, were served wonderful meals at both Flying Fork and Living Farm. And, we could walk home from dinner
and glasses of wine without assigning a designated driver. A plus when sampling Paonia red wines from the Alfred Eames cellars.
He's a small winery, not a major place for a tour, but great red varietals. Our hosts gave us a lead to a fabulous Peach and Nectarine orchard, JJ's Orchard.
Also made a trip into Crawford and had lunch at the Old Mad Dog Cafe. This was a treat, definitely "down home" menu, food well seasoned and
Thank you to our gracious hosts. I hope for a revisit.
