About the property

A beautifully appointed Adobe home tucked away in the hills of New Mexic

A beautifully appointed Adobe home that can accommodate up to 5 guests nestled in the village of Abiquiu, which is considered uniquely beautiful and a quiet and serene escape from the every day to recharge and rejuvenate.

We provide a well-furnished house that is actually my family home so you won’t find a sparsely decorated “vacation rental. We provide freshly delivered coffee, excellent wifi, and Direct TV as well as a wonderful local caretaker to help with just about anything.

My family home for the last 40 years, nestled in Abiquiu, in the beautiful Chama valley, in Northern New Mexico. Abiquiu is a quaint and eclectic gathering of both native New Mexicans and those in the know.

The house was completely remodeling in 2005 from the roof to the floors. All new kitchen and amazing bathroom await you and you won't find is a hastily appointed 'vacation rental,' this is my childhood home, and it's been beautifully appointed with an eclectic combination of modern pieces and beautiful antiques.

Far from stuffy and boring, this house can be your jumping off point for all sorts of adventures in northern New Mexico, whether you're venturing into Santa Fe to peruse art galleries or headed to Taos to enjoy some fun, this house can be your idyllic escape from the hectic every day of your life.

It's such a beautiful and quiet place to be where the stars at night seem to go on forever.

The experience of being in the village of Abiquiu is such a unique perspective on life. It's not like the polished, touristy side of New Mexico; this house is located in the same place that people settled hundreds of years ago in a government land grant and continued with their lives.

The home is just a short walk to Georgia O'Keeffe's home and a short drive to Ghost Ranch. The area brings many repeat visitors and warrants new explorations with each visit. Take a drive into the Chama River Canyon to hike, visit the Benedictine Monastery, enjoy the hot springs at Ojo Caliente or simply embrace the enchanting nature of Abiquiu - allow yourself to enjoy it all.

Please know that the house is located in the highest part of the village and the road can be slightly intimidating. We've never had any issues with guests accessing the house or being troubled by neighbors.

Also, for clarity, the main bedroom is accessed through the second bedroom and the bathroom and kitchen are also off the second bedroom. The house flows from one room to the next as with most traditional adobe homes.

The house resides in a rural community consisting of dirt roads which a few guests have found surprising. They are generally in good condition for most vehicles but we want our guests to be informed of this.

Please be aware that this house sits next to other homes and that there are people around and there can sometimes be noise during the day.

We ask that our guests be flexible, understanding, and practice open communication when it comes to the neighbors and things such as parking and occasional noise. These are good people just living their lives, just know it's not an isolated vacation rental.

If you're looking for a unique experience, this is the house for you!

Experience Abiquiu at Casa de Artista

  • 5 of 5

I've visited New Mexico (and Abiquiu) several times over the past ten years and recently spent about three weeks at Casa de Artista. The house is located in the village, just up the hill from Georgia O'Keeffe's compound. The front entrance faces other close-by houses, and the neighbors are friendly. Behind the house, the view opens up to the same landscape O'Keeffe saw every day from her studio. Just down the hill is Bode's General Store and the Post Office, and during the summer, a small weekly farmer's market. Driving north on the highway about twenty minutes takes you to Ghost Ranch, and Espanola and Santa Fe are about a half-hour and hour away respectively driving south. The house itself is exactly as photographed and advertised. A rustic adobe with modern touches and a love of art makes the house comfortable and comforting. The kitchen is the heart of the house while the bathroom, master bedroom and patio all add to its charm. The WiFi was the best I've ever had in a NM rental property, and the satellite dish provides ample TV choices and good reception. Both the owner and housekeeper checked in with me during my stay to make sure everything was going well and to see if I needed anything. Brenda (the housekeeper) also dropped off a bottle of wine as a gift. Thanks to both of you for a wonderful stay.

Charming adobe

  • 4 of 5

We stayed a month in this charming little adobe and enjoyed exploring and painting the surrounding countryside. At some future date, I would like to return in the Autumn when the cottonwoods are golden!

Beautifully furnished! Stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

Burk’s cottage proved both cozy and comfy. The Abiquiu area is truly enchanting. We enjoyed hiking as well as visiting Santa Fe. I do have two suggestions. First, because finding the cottage in the fading late December sun was difficult, arrange to meet the housekeeper at the church so she can help you find this little gem of a home. Second, getting in or out of the shower/tub could be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. We enjoyed our stay and hope you do, too!

A Quiet Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Thank you! Just what I needed: a quiet, clean retreat. The rain on the tin roof was a bonus! Recommended.

Absolutely wonderful getaway. More than I expected.

  • 5 of 5

I loved the fact that the home is right in the village. I felt immersed into the experience. Its definitely for the adventurous, getting up that road! But that only added to it. Inside, the home was clean, welcoming and equipped with everything you could need. I'm definitely coming back!

Cozy modern convent house

  • 4 of 5

Everything was clean and we had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom is awesome. I would definitely come back and stay here again. The parking is a little tricky, you have to either back all the way in or back all the way out. Maneuvering is a little tight. But overall an excellent place to stay.
